From what I've seen of both, the original goes for a more emotional touch, while the (American) dub tended to keep things, for the most part, lighthearted with more jokes, not to say it didn't keep the emotional moments.
People argue the original's better because of less cuts and better music, but I prefer the dub just because it's still fun, and dubs are how most people were introduced to Digimon anyway.
