Gonna repost my post from last thread, as I felt like sharing.
First came across Earthbound in 97, I was 7 at the time, at a local blockbuster. I must have rented it for almost a month, saving money to help pay for it. I even bought a strategy guide from walmart because I loved it so much. The guide itself is a work of pure love. I just enjoy every page, from the clay art to the vacation ads for all the destinations.
Eventually my parents bought me the game as a Birthday present, one of the happiest days of my childhood. A few years later I discovered Mother 1, and the glory of Starmen. net. Even at that age, with the internet being the clunky mess it was, I found a working NES emulator and got it working on my parents old computer and played the game to the finish.
The mother series has always, and will continue to be my favorite video game franchise, and it does my heart good to see a strong following on 4chan. Been here since 07', and its fitting on Mother's 25th anniversary I get a real reminder of why I enjoy it here.

The encounter with Giygas. It's just so much bigger than anything you've fought in Earthbound or even in Mother - not just in terms of the size of the enemy, but the implications. You really feel like you're going up against an alien in Earthbound - he doesn't even speak (I always read the things in the second form to be hallucinations or in the party's voice).

Ness has been in every Smash Bros. They're not taking him out.
I'm a little more worried about Lucas. Smash hasn't taken kindly to even 'partial' clone characters in the past, when considering who to axe. If he must be absent, though, I think it'd be fair to put in another Mother 3 character. Both Duster and Kumatora could be interesting characters, among many others. Hell if they went and threw Flint in there I'd be thrilled.
So I've only played Mother 3. But for some reason, I had a bad first impression of Earthbound, and I never finished it.
I plan on going back and starting with Mother, then Earthbound, but I'm curious; is there any music shared between games in the series?
The first five notes of the theme of love still make my eyes water, and I don't want to cry like a bitch at random moments.

Have you ever done it on an actual GBA? It's a bit easier - emulation introduces lag.
It's unsurprising the other 2 games haven't gotten localized. Getting Earthbound in the virtual store was a feat in of itself. Japanese law is far more lax when it comes to references and 'homage'. And the kind of references Mother is full of tends to be a bit of a logistical minefield

Yeah, Emulation is a fucking bitch. The sound just doesn't line up. Apparently people have gotten it working but I've yet to figure out a way.
However, PSP emulation with GPSPkai works pretty damn well, you very rarely get hiccups during battle, and the audio stays perfectly lined up. Combo attacks were a breeze. If anyone's looking to play the game and has a PSP, I'd STRONGLY recommend installing custom firmware and getting that shit up.

A lot of Earthbound's music comes from Mother 1. Snowman, Desert, even the song considered to be Paula's theme came from Mother 1. All of them good tracks. They use the same battle songs too. And in my opinion, 8 melodies is the best Mother theme even though I'm biased and love them all.Bester girl. Bestest is still Ana.
I think I just said "fuck it" and used a pro action replay code to let me get 16 hits every time. Otherwise I played the game clean. The damage after the first few hits is negligible anyways.

Menu system are a bit different between the first two games. Earthbound has a more refined and traditional RPG menu system. Mother 1 merges equipment and items so you have to equip through the item box.

I had watched a few speedruns of Earthbound years before playing it for the first time so I kinda forgot how Giygas battle was, playing it at night with lights turned off really gave me the creeps. Claus dying, the whole scene, made me cry like I hadn't in a very long time, the sole phrase "I'm going where mom is now" was what made me break in tears. Mother 3 is now one of my Top 10 and my favorite RPG ever.
I think I'll play Mother as soon as I finish with these games I'm playing.

In Mother 1, when you sing the 8 melodies to the Queen. That scene got be a bit. In Mother 2, the moment Ness became a god and got superhuman stats. More RPGs should reward you for collecting all the plot mcguffins. In Mother 3, the scene looking for the jar of pickles and Kumatora says "Boy, we sure did stunble!" because it's still in my mind after all these years.

When I was a kid, Ive always heard of Earthbound from Smash, game websites and from my older bros friends but never played it. When I finally got a PC of my own I emulated Earthbound and Mother 3 and they became some of my favorite games of all time. Earthbound feels like a struggle to save Earth and knowing a menacing threat is out to destory earth, it feels like to much to handle. But with the music and writing, its a new world to explore.
Mother 3 is very close to me. Ive replayed it for the 2nd time recently and it surprised me with the writing and secret details that were removed or hard to find(Emulated Mother 3 at a young age where I rushed through EVERY game). When I found out Porkey was the villain, it felt like Earthbound all over again. You were fighting a madman but it was in a super light and funny world that will be with me forever.

Assuming that they're a team of nerds who've played EB to death, I feel I don't need to worry about the writing. The fact that they're willing to call it Mother 4 to me means that they have to output something that is on caliber with the original games.
I guess I just have blind faith in them from fan projects. The Sonic fanbase produced Sonic After the Sequel, a game on caliber with the original genesis games. Tomato did a great translation of Mother 3. The Ace Attorney fanbase did a fantastic translation of AAI2. As long as fans are serious, I have no room for worry.
