So, up to Yukikos castle. Not too bad, rough in parts, had to use pretty much everything I had on the subboss.
Finally make it to the top and Shadow Yukiko just wiped me out. Had to give up and come back the next day. Did better but couldn't quite beat her, that fire AoE being cast twice in a row just wrecked me.
So the game is very clear that I don't need to rush things and that I shouldn't be only fighting, so that's fine, but obviously I do need to do some grinding to beat her. Don't think I can do it at lv13.
So I was expecting most of my non mission days would be spent getting my stats up, but looks like I need'a balance grinding in too.
Am I right? How much grinding should I be doing? Is there an efficient way of doing it?
Assuming this is vanilla and your first time playing purse owner than don't worry, she's surprisingly difficult for a first time run.
Basically you want to be blocking with Chie when you think she's going to cast her fire attacks to stop her getting 2 turns.
Unless you picked up a skill called red wall which you can cast to cover her weakness.

Rely on strategy. Grinding isn't a necessity. P4 uses the Once More system which is like the press turns in Nocturne.
Fuse a persona which has Red Wall (increases fire resistance). Cover your weaknesses, that is a key element in Megaten games. Persona 4 does not have the exhaustion stat of 3, so you can go nuts on persona hunting from battles. Also keep plenty of healing items for each ailment (10-20 at minimum)
Leave immediately if you haven't already had the thing spoiled for you. Seriously.

If it's the PS2 then it's understandable as she's the hardest boss in the game. Had a hard time myself. Just have Chie on guard all the time and just slowly chip away at her HP with Protag and Yosuke. If you're desperate for heals then make Chie an item bot but get her back to guarding as soon as your topped up. Pretty sure 13 is already a good level.

P4 is painfully mediocre gameplay-wise. It's just a social sim with gameplay tacked on on the side.
There's really no way to go about saying this without sounding like an elitist HURR GITGUD fuckface, but P4 is the easiest game in the franchise. And you're struggling with the first boss.

Parents are the ones who decide on what kanji they want to use for the name, it's not always set. Hell, sometimes they just pick kanji they like and come up with a reading for it, which is why Nips oiften explain how to write their name when they introduce themselves.

Meh, it's easy to say that when you've got a firm grasp of how to write latin characters.
You'd be surprised how easy it is to make even the letter T look "wrong" depending on how it's drawn.
Also there's the difference between how things are printed and how they're handwritten.
I imagine kanji to be somewhat like signatures, they can look really complicated but it's usually just a learned motion through repetition.

I don't think red wall is necessary, or easy to get that early in the game. Just pick someone with innate fire resistance.
I remember I used Valkarie's Arm Chop pretty much every turn. I was dealing 100-200 damage a hit after Tarajuka, which left the other two free to heal and guard.
This was on hard mode though, so I can't guarantee it'll work on Very Hard.

I always hear this, but I've never agreed with it. I had a lot more trouble with Kanji's boss fight. I had to seriously grind before I could beat that. Or else I was seriously underleveled.

That's pushing it a little. I wouldn't suggest trying that until you've got your Hermit social link up to level 6 or 7. That's the point when it no longer costs more money to heal than you make grinding.

Kanji a shit, at least the manner in which I was taught. It was straight up rote including the stroke order. Myjp gfsaid when her parents taught her she learned through radicals (see: http://kanjialive.com/214-traditional-kanji-radicals/) which makes way more sense and looks tonnes easier.
