It's a flashback to Samus being a teenager, so that kind of makes sense.
It also characterizes her as aggressively passionate, which makes sense since it's her boyfriend who's about to die. Aside from egregious ass shots and the fact that the older Samus thinks that the way to improve herself is to be a submissive little shit, it's a perfectly acceptable scene.

Yeah, pretty much, but the scene in and of itself is fine. Samus and her emotions is definitely a very subtle theme between II and Super with the Baby Metroid subplot, but Other M tries way too hard to focus on it. Examining the idea that Samus has problems keeping herself stone cold 100% of the time and isn't always the perfect badass is absolutely fine. Even that scene with her getting freaked out by Ridley could have worked if done properly.
The problem is that the game keeps pushing Samus down and makes her tell us what a shit she is constantly instead of showing small flaws and then allowing her to overcome them.
We don't have Samus remember when she was a teen and lost her cool and her boyfriend die because of it so we can see her learn from her mistakes and be a huge badass, we see it so Samus will accept how cool Adam is in killing himself. We don't have Samus suffer from seeing Ridley come back from the dead in order to see that even she gets scared of this fucker but she'll kick his ass anyway, we see it so Ridley can be hyped up a bit and Anthony can save her.

Nintendo didn't deny one was in the works. They said there are two styles of Metroid, Prime and conventional. Thankfully omitting you know what. They said they hope to have information in the near future and this was back during E3. It may be a while before we see anything still but they've admitted something is in the works.

You have a very strange view on things, anon.
Like I said, everything else about the scene is awful, but there's nothing wrong with introducing ideas like this when used properly. Hell, I'd argue that having a scene like this done properly is less of a betrayal of Samus' character than her relationship with the ADAM AI in Fusion. It establishes that she has, at least once, dun goofed. It's not necessary, but it can be used as a good narrative tool and establishes how cool she is now even more strongly if presented in the proper context.
It's hella cliche though, and I'd rather not have it than have it. My point is that it's not bad, regardless of whether it's good or not (it's not).

Samus had mystery, she was interesting because they gave you enough to go on to fill the gaps of her past without filling it with terrible cliches. She was raised by Alien Birds and became a Bounty hunter and murdered entire planets of Aliens solo.
Giving us massive amounts of melodramatic scenes from her past where she acts like a typical 14 year old girl ruins this mystery.
This is also why that Manga was awful. Samus was cool in the same way Darth Vader was cool, because of the things they did now, not the fuck up teenager they were. Darth Vader isn't any cooler now that we knew he was an annoy brat as a teen and neither is Samus.

Hey it's almost like you didn't read my fucking post where I said the rest of the scene is terrible and it was presented in the wrong context entirely.
In fact it's almost like you're ignoring my entire argument about the concept but not the execution being acceptable to keep talking about how "annoying" the scene was.
Knowing that Vader is Luke's dad and that he fucked up in the past doesn't make his character worse. If anything that works out in the first trilogy's favor. It's when they spend a long period of time discussing it and not using it as a way to assist the narrative that it becomes shit. Knowing that Samus was responsible for the death of someone she loved because she was a teenager once does not take away from the mystery of who she is now, or how she feels or any of that bullshit. It gives you a bit of rationale for her actions and a point of comparison, as well as a thematic point of interest when developing the plot.
If the game kept it as simple as Adam trying to kill himself to save the station, Samus remembering that her boyfriend died in a similar situation, and allowing the player to keep the past from repeating itself, it would be fine. A bit hokey, sure, but it doesn't detract from her character. It simply gives some context. The problem is Other M can't into subtlety and Samus can't shut up and stop crying.

Does having sentimentality for small creatures ruin her character?
All of these things tell us more about who Samus is and what she does based on past actions, not current ones. Letting the game inform you that she lost a person close to her as a young adult is no more a stain on her character than telling us she's a Galactic Federation Vet or that she was an orphan raised by bird things. What stains it is having her blab and bitch and cry like a shit and using it in ways that don't either show us why she became who she is or reinforce who she is now.

But we DO in Fusion's case. Samus VERY EXPLICITLY tells the player how and why she feels like she does for ADAM. It is literally a scenario ruled by her past actions with absolutely no ambiguity.
And, for the umpteenth time, the concept of Samus losing someone in the past is not mutually exclusive to her also telling us who she is and why she thinks. In fact, Fusion does THE SAME THING, just with Adam instead of Adam's brother, and you're claiming it's different even without considering the execution of it.

It's not, and I've made it quite clear. When you expose that ambiguity, not matter how you do it it'll always be weaker than the mystery. Hints and glimpses are fine because they can then further that mystery, but once you've shown the hand you can't un-show it.
Fusion still maintained this mystery, she tells you part of her past but we don't get to see in her mind, we don't see the emotion the mystery is still maintained, not until Other M do we actually reveal this fully.

We never got to see her emotional state, she relayed the story but we weren't in the moment, we didn't get the how and why and they left it up for us to guess how she felt and how it happened. You realize those were placeholder graphics right?
They're far, far too simplified to have ever been intended as final design artwork especially for the main character.
They just hurried and made a quick placeholder animation sprites per each frame so they could go ahead and test other aspects of the gameas they were working on them
Otherwise they would have to wait for the finished samus sprites to be made before they could test or do anything else with the game.
A lot of bosses also had sprite developments. Beta screens of Kraid for instance show him looking really crude and different

Once you have the flashback you've had it. No matter how well you execute on it it'll be worse than just leaving the blank there.
You can choose how much you want to divulge before that point but once you've got balls deep into a flashback the execution no longer matters because either way the mystery is gone and the play no longer gets that scene of wonder about the character that makes them so interesting.

I'm not arguing in favor of flashbacks in Metroid games, but I'm just saying that your idea of "ambiguous" doesn't make sense. A flashback doesn't necessarily mean things are always more solidly established. Sometimes it allows for things to be MORE ambiguous. That's why a lot of mystery movies and games rely on flashbacks instead of actual explanations, it can be a lot more hazy and is up for interpretation.
