I get sick of playing guys after a while. Most player characters are men, so when I get a choice I make a female. Or a really fucking fat guy because there's not many games where you get to play as a disgusting manblob either. It's also why I never pick Human in any game where I can pick from multiple species.

I typically play as a guy in single player RPGs because I am a guy, and if i'm *playing the role*, it's naturally easier for me to identify with my character if he is the same gender as me.
I do play female characters in MMOs sometimes, because if it's an MMO, i'm less concerned with identifying with my character and their actions/story and more concerned with having a cool-looking character, and the simple fact is that most MMOs now days put a lot more effort into female characters, and they end up looking a lot better then the male counterparts in a lot of cases.
