The only time I've ever cheated in Monster Hunter was in Portable 3rd because Charm RNG was ABSOLUTE bullshit. So I'd hack in a charm I needed, but it was never anything not available through the game anyway. If I had the same cheating capability in MH3U I'd do it again (though I guess charm sniping makes things easier? Haven't much looked into it).
Also I swapped my character's gender to see what my armor sets would look like as a female.

How is it bullshit? You don't need god charms for anything but the absolute top level of time attacks. If you're not competing with the Japanese runners for fastest kills, you have no excuse to cheat in a god charm.
You're supposed to build your sets around the charms you have, not look for a charm after thinking up a set.

Except for Frontier and first gen, there's no item in the games that you have less than a 15% chance to get from a fight. It's usually around 20% or more for most items.
And it *is* skill based to some extent, since breaking parts and capturing instead of killing give you different odds. Beyond that there's multi-monster hunts and event hunts that have higher or different drop rates.
tl;dr it's only grind-y if you're unlucky.
