fuck that shit i'd rather save $30 or $40 on a game and get it physical. Not to mention a physical collection looks pre awesome.

That being said ALL of my PC games are digital. Console games i prefer having physical.

Digital

One fault is that you'd need an internet connection at some point to redownload it but nowadays that's not a huge undertaking.

you don't "own" shit. All you own is a license to play and use the game. That is how software works. You never "own" it cause all you "own" is the license to use it.

How would a game get damaged? I treat my items very well

People say this as if they're terribly clever.

That may be technically true, but for all practical purposes, you do own it since Nintendo could never reclaim it.

I own some games on Steam or eShop or PSN.

But I vastly prefer physical copies, having something tangible to own.

All of my Vita games are digital except for my pre-order of Shinovi Versus.

My Wii U and 3DS purchases will forever be physical though thanks to Nintendo's fucking shitty digital system.

I've got a reason to prefer digital though.
I'm not like most anons that live in America or Europe and can easily go to Gamestop and get a day 1 purchase of their game, I live in motherfucking Brazil, where every release that is not AAA takes months to get to stores, if they do at all. Shit like Project Diva and Etrian Odyssey? Import or digital. And digital does not get taxed to hell like physical imports and they don't take months to arrive, if they're not stolen by monkeys halfway through.

Pic related, it won't arrive in any stores and I will have to wait a month to play it while /v/ has fun and discuss it and play online with bros.

Oh god, that's so fucking great. Shame I kept upgrading my 3DS like a retard. Does it run DS games too?
>>
>>253973120
I like having physical games, but I currently have a fair few digital ones.
For digital I have: Phoenix Wright 5, Animal Crossing, Etrian Oddysey 4, Super Mario 3D Land (promotion), and Link Between Worlds. Plus the small club nintendo retro games.

For my Donkey Kong Returns (via platinum) I had to use another SD card (the one I've been using is only 4 gb).

Not entirely sure if I should get a 32gb or 16gb SD. What size are you guys using, and are you full digital, full physical (plus digital promo games), or somewhere between?

>>
>>253976187
Not really, no.

Every claim by Smea of a new exploit does not have enough system access to allow for piracy.

It's really not hard to find 4.5 3DSes new, anon. Just check big box stores and stores that don't update their stock often. Think HH Gregg and shitty chains like that.

I only buy digital when they're cheaper than the physical retail copy. The majority of the time that's not the case. The other reason to buy digital if it's a digital only release.

I bought Symphonia on PSN a while back because it was standalone and didn't want that disgusting sequel. Plus it was more convenient. Little did I know, the framerate was complete ass.
>>
>>253973120
The only digital game I actually wanted digital on my 3DS is Animal Crossing because I play that shit every day and don't want to fuck around with carts every time I want to check things.

Aside from that I prefer physical games. I'm not against the system Nintendo has, but it could use a lot of work. It's not total crap though so when Capcom decides to fuck me I can still enjoy AA games, or the odd niche game that can't afford a physical release, but I never cared about a lot of games on hand. I only ever play one at a time anyway.

Aside from that I find Steam alright for the most part, but it's really just convenience and being used to it by now I guess. Made moving games to new computers easy too. Never used anything else for that really.
>>
>>253975572
Why not just get it digital, then?
>>
>>253974362
Funny enough take Too Human for example. I still own it because I bought it physically. All unsold copies were forced to be recalled and destroyed. You can't even redownload it because it had to be entirely gone if you bought it digitally.

As for owning 3DS games, I have more rights to mine than you do at the same price. While you have slight convenience, you can't just put your SD card in another 3DS and play your games. You can't loan it to your buddies after you're done and vice versa without loaning your entire 3DS.

3DS also lacks an account system, which if it did I would have 0 issues with going either way. As it stands now it doesn't change much. Your 3DS gets lost or stolen and every single digital purchase is gone. Forever. Nintendo doesn't replace lost/stolen digital games. I'm not carrying all my physical games on me at all time so even if something does happen to the 3DS while I'm out getting streetpasses, only a small amount is lost.

While each side has its perks I feel with physical games I get more rights and perks with my content, especially on Nintendo consoles. If things change in the future, I may switch but as it stands now it's down to preference and risk vs reward with them.

Too late. Already having loads of fun.

Bought two more Gateway compatible 3DSes and gave one to my GF and one to my friend who introduced me to PS3 piracy. They were on clearance from Radioshack for $99 apiece. Came in the big boxes and even included charging cradles, so you knew they were launch models.
We play a lot of MonHun and Kid Icarus together. Almost every other multiplayer game is terrible, unfortunately. Thankfully we didn't waste any real money trying them.
>>
>>253975975
32GB and fully physical besides Phoenix Wright Dual Destinies, Senran Kagura Burst, and Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D.
I have a lot of space leftover just in case for digital only purchases.

It does have one though. It's just shitty and tied to one system at a time. This myth is really getting old.
>>
>>253976918

What part of shitty account system don't you get? Living in Brazil makes me double wary of that, since you never know when some niggas gonna pull out a gun and rob you.

Three people were killed near my house 4 days ago, would you feel safe walking around with a device with like, 900 dollars in digital games in it? At least with my Vita when they steal I can buy another and access my account on that and redownload my games.
>>
A number of reasons, actually.

>I actively like having a physical collection to look at
>I'm more inconvenienced by the possibility of a full memory card than having to switch carts out
>It's too instant, and there's no sense of excitement behind it. No equivalent of finally getting the case in your hands, of ripping off the shrink wrap, that new manual smell. It's just download and play. It feels comparatively soulless to me.

But to each their own. If you prefer digital, more power to you.
>>
>>253977142

Oh shit, english is not my first language, did I fuck up? I meant their games are good, but their consoles are shit. They fucked up Club Nintendo too, kinda surprised they didn't fuck up E3.

>It's too instant, and there's no sense of excitement behind it. No equivalent of finally getting the case in your hands, of ripping off the shrink wrap, that new manual smell. It's just download and play. It feels comparatively soulless to me.

To me, I get that feel from paying, not touching the cover, so if I pirate a game I just go "meh" and finish it, but if I pay 60 bucks on it, digital or physical, I get the greatest high ever when I get to the start menu.

>>
>>253977309
No I have one of the original versions still. I actually made a hardware modification to it to stop the bricking
>>
>>253977316
It lacks a proper account system. One that is tied to a user instead of a console. It may as well not have on at all in it's current state. No other company ties your games to your console/pc. I can log in to any xbox, playstation, or pc with steam or even make a shitty origin account and access my games.
>>
>>253977663
What is this even trying to say? Do you have any idea what actually caused the Gateway bricks?
>>
>>253977607

Same. That's a major reason why I don't pirate games. If I just go and download all the games, I look at it and see a massive backlog, kind of like Steam sales minus the money spent and the incentive to try and entertain it.

It's tied to both a user and system. Thus the shitty aspect. None of those downsides in your other post are actual situations to worry about though, such as losing games, etc. The fact you can't share around games easy is a legitimate complaint and the hassles of moving shit around should never be that bad. I traded in a bunch of stuff to a shop today so I could get a 3DS XL. And it had a 16GB memory card in it. And the previous owner or something must have had purchases on it because I was able to download games I never downloaded before: It had some VC games, but here's what it had:

Mario and luigi: dream team

Harvest moon: A new beginning
Pokemon X
Scribblenauts unmasked.

I've had consoles stolen in the past and games left alone so it's just a sour taste to me about the tied to a console thing.

I am on my second 3DS' because my launch one bit the dust and had I done digital I would've had to have Nintendo move my games instead of just going out and buying a new DS right then and there and continuing Pokemon.

Losing your 3DS is a situation for streetpasses because you never know what might happen. I've been robbed living in Vegas several times while out and about so while it may not be a huge concern for you, it is for me.

This.

Everything you ever bought is tied to your 3ds serial number and can be replaced if it is lost or stolen provided you give them the serial no.

Alternatively if you have a club Nintendo account linked to your network ID they also have a log of every game purchased via the eshop which can be used to replaced your games.

You just give them the club Nintendo or old serial number, your new 3ds serial number. They deactivate the lost or stolen one, transfer the purchases to the new one and you're set.

>RE Revelations
>deleting the best 3DS game to date
>>
>>253980309
Sony purposely keeps the fan speed low on phat PS3's to increase the chance to get YLOD imo

with a CFW PS3 you can increase the fan speed & it runs much cooler, much lower chance to get YLOD
>>
>>253980515
PC version is miles better
>>
>>253980640

pretty much this

had it for 3DS first, then later got it for PC
>>
>>253980515
I still haven't bothered to beat that game. Got bored halfway in and never went back. RE just isn't my thing.
>>
I wish there were a way to install a game onto the 3DS from cartridge and/or get a free download when you buy the cart. I like having physical copies but I also really like the convenience of carrying all my games with me.
>>
>>253980527
Honestly anon, there is no lower chance or higher chance. There is only delaying it.

Look up on google "PS3 reballing" and read about the soldering and motherboard warping. Even with the increased fan speed it will YLOD at some point
>>
>>253980640

I could believe that it's better, but you're gonna have to explain "miles". There's what, a new difficulty, a new enemy, less load times, and DLC weapons. Isn't that about the extent of changes?
>>
>>253980896

>buy game
>download free digital copy
>return physical copy
>$$$

no downside to that at all
>>
>buy Tales of Symphonia Chronicles
>open case
>no fucking manual period
>get on PSN store
>it's $10

haven't looked back since
>>
>>253974182
In Australia, 3DS games on the e-shop easily go for $70. You can find them else where in JB Hi-Fi or EB for almost $40 - $50.
>>
>>253980441
having to spend 30+ hours to get into a game is plebby from a game development pov

i could be partway through a game i enjoy in that time, or i could spend my time playing animal crossing or some shit

anyway, i think that game caters to a demographic im not a part of

>>253980337
fair enough. mh4 is coming out early next year. may be worth your while to wait until that comes out.
>>
I do buy digital though. Not always, but about half the time. I play on PC, I've long since stopped caring about physical copies. I'll buy physical if it's convenient, but if not I'm fine buying digital. And digital is great for sales and for picking up games you missed before. Its made it much easier to catch up on \the PS3 games that I've missed.

I keep having storage space issues because I wind up spending my limited money on more video games instead of things like external HDDs and SD cards.

>Own a bunch of digital games on 3DS, mostly because of Fatlus doing constant eShop sales
>Still haven't gotten around to buying a bigger SD card
>Moving games around between PC and the tiny 4GB card they give you whenever I want to play different shit
>>
>>253981505

Don't do that if you ever get a Vita. Oftentimes Amazon destroys the digital price.
>>
>>253981534
Yet if the game was hard from the start youd be bitching that its unplayable
>>
>>253981885
like i said, the game isn't for me. doesn't matter if it's hard from the start, has like a million hours of tutorials, or what. i just find the game boring.
>>
>>253981094

They could easily get around that with even a basic activation key system like PC games have had for a gorillion years.

But then everyone would throw a tantrum about muh used games.
>>
>>253982097
>being polite about a game you dont like

Thats fair man, Im not even going to argue. Enjoy your vidya
>>
>>253982281
I'm having trouble visualizing what your idea is. Would you mind fleshing that out?
>>
>Tfw my friend has FE8 on his XL

FUCKIN A
>>
>want to buy digital 3DS games so I don't have to switch carts
>don't want to spend Nintenjew's prices
>end up not using my 3DS

based digital downloads...;_;
>>
>>253982845

I'd say the prices are a better argument than the cart switching. I don't get what people's deal is with that. Maybe it's because I've been doing that for 15 years now, but I'm not really inconvenienced by it, nor was I ever inconvenienced by it.
>>
>>253982669

I'm still annoyed that Nintendo's not just releasing that shit to the general public. Its been years, I'm pretty sure ambassadors don't fucking care if they have exclusive ROMs anymore.

FE7 and FE8 are two games that I would actually pay to have on my 3DS even though I never use the VC, because I like playing Fire Emblem games on a handheld while I'm doing other things or waiting around. As it is I have to use my phone if I want to play anything that isn't Awakening (which I think is underrated by FEfags on /v/ but sometimes I just want to play other FE games instead), and using my phone means draining the battery rapidly and subjecting myself to shitty controls.

Goddammit Nintendo, the 3DS has to be capable of running GBA games, the fucking PSP with its 333MHz single core CPU can run GBA games. Get on it.
>>
>>253983163
it's actually harder for me to switch between games digitally than it is physically.

i mean, neither are overly difficult. however, all i have to do with physical games is switch cartridges/disks and go to its icon. doesn't take as long as searching through my digital games for the game i want to play.
>>
>>253973120

I just bought FE:Avakening using their eShop and I almost threw my 3DS out the window in frustration with they shitty shop and ERROR CANT DOWNLOAD THIS, GO BACK TO THE MAIN SCREEN AND REBOOT THE CONSOLE, EVEN THOUGH WE CHARGED YOUR CREDIT CARD AND KINDA STARTED DOWNLOADING THE GAME SO IT TAKJES 8000 BLOCKS ON YOUR CARD BUT NOW ITS CORRUPT.

Fuck you Nintendo. Never downloading anything else on that fucking archaic shop.
>>
>>253984242

I want to say that's unusual but I'm not so fond of the eShop myself as to actively defend it because it kind of is shit, so...have fun with that, future physicalbro.
>>
>>253984242
Can't you just redownload it or something?

http://en-americas-support.nintendo.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/607/~/how-to-download-or-redownload-content-from-the-nintendo-eshop
>>
>>253983346
As an ambassador, I think they really should just release them to everyone. It sucks we got shafted by such a quick price drop but we've had our fun and I don't even touch the games anymore. Let people have their fun.

It's definitely capable of GBA games, they're just really lazy it seems, or they're more interested in putting them on the Wii U weirdly enough. Then again they don't really need to pad out the 3DS available games like they have to do the Wii U.
>>
>>253979820

Pretty much this. At least with physical, I only lose one game.
>>
>>253979820
>>253986071
No, fuckers.

You call Nintendo so they unbind your ID from your lost 3DS and then put it in your new 3DS so you can redownload all your games.
>>
>implying video games are fun
>>
I bought tomadachi life digitally. wish I did the same with animal crossing. I feel like I would actually check in on my town every day if I didn't have to shuffle carts. Which is silly, but that's just how it be.

I bought a few vita games digitally, but only because they aren't available physically. When I get another memory card for Japanese PSN, I'm thinking I'm just going to go all digital there to bypass importing and shipping and waiting.
>>
You know what was my best purchase for my 3DS? Not a game. Kid Icarus: Uprising, and Fire Emblem: Awakening were fantastic, but not them. It was my 64GB SD card that replaced a goddamn sandwich bag of games that I had to carry around.
>>
>>253986071

I lost 2 games when my DS was stolen because fuck yeah 2 game ports. Don't know why I re-bought Metroid Prime Hunters in hindsight, but I still somewhat miss Sonic Advance 3.
>>
facebook admin i know ur fukin here
>>
>>253986547

I have one of those 18 card cases that Nintendo had a while back so carrying around 3DS games is kind of a moot point for me. It's as difficult as having a DS case on my person, and that's only if I'm going somewhere for a few days. Toss that shit in with some clothes in a suitcase, problem solved.

I've gone digital and my backlog has shrunk. I have small console hardrives and sd cards. I don't buy games because of space and think more about filling my card. I forget that I can buy physical sometimes and there are only a few games that I even want physical.
I don't give a shit about having something like Animal Crossing digital but I have to have SMTIV/Fire Emblem physical.

I'm assblasted that PLvsAA will cost full price ($800 mexican dollars) here.

I could get it digital for like $150 cheaper, but I really want to have this game in physical.

Aside from some dsi ware and gameboy games I just have Yumi's Odd Odyssey

Paid like 5 dollars for a game that lasted me under an hour. Played like crap.
>>
>>253989365

I'm pretty sure you play that game for the speedrunning. I never got into it the way I did Flip Champs or Milky Way but I saw the appeal.
>>
The only game I felt was worth saying fuck it to Nintendo's shit DRM policy is Phoenix Wright DD. Worth it IMO

I'd like to, but where I live the eShop prices are like 20 bux more than what I can get the game for in stores. It would be nice to have something like Animal Crossing digital, but it's just not worth it to buy them.

They need to price competitively. That's the only thing that's holding me back. I can always get the retail version, and a brand new copy at that, not used, for significantly less than the eShop price. It should be exactly the opposite, which is fucking stupid.
>>
>>253973418

This is actually good because it means you'll never have to connect to the internet for DRM bullshit. Just don't be an idiot and break your 3DS.
