VESPERIA 360

Tales of the Abyss' was pretty fun, so that I guess.

360 Vesperia all the way. Patty may be worth it, but not enough to pay $40 for a used game

Unrelated but I'm getting a "connection error, you may be banned" whenever I try to post while 4chan X is enabled. Anyone dealt with something similar?

Its mostly just revisiting old areas with three or so new dungeons and stronger enemies. If you hated the last dungeon in the main story, the F arc's last dungeon will piss you off even more.
The only real benefit to it is unlocking everyone's Accel modes and carrying them over to the main game.

Shit man, I don't know. I do like the Star Driver and sports team outfits in the Xillias though.

I loved the cameo bosses in Vesperia, but Xillia 2's cameo fight look dopes as hell to.

Just get it in English goddman.
>>
What the hell, might as well post.

>What is the best game in the series? No Vesperia PS3, we all know that's 11/10 top tier
Depends entirely on the player. I personally have Eternia, Symphonia, and Vesperia as favorites, but the others like Abyss aren't bad either. Hell, in general very few Tales games are outright bad.
>Best costumes?
Abyss/Vesperia. At least they offered plenty, and in game as well, without having to resort to shelling out a bunch for DLC.
>Best Cameo Fight?
Going to go with Abyss if we're talking Team Colosseum.
>Assuming you have both consoles, is it worth buying Vesperia 360 in english or Vesperia PS3 and not understanding Moon?
Just my opinions, but I'd say yes to both. Especially if you play the 360 version prior to understand the plot and majority of the characters. The PS3 version is pretty friendly to non moonspeakers as far as gameplay goes, and offers an absolute ton of bonus stuff, and generally cool additions to the game as well.

Cool, now find one with everytime he mentions friend or friendship.

On that note, I didn't find the final dungeon for main arc that bad apart from one of the rooms, but that's just me. I'd say go for it if you were liking the rest of the game.

>>252804641
Only part I disliked about future arc's final dungeon was the first section with the elevators. After that it was smooth sailing, and the warps you can unlock in each area to get to and from the shuttle were a really nice addition.

Yeah, I mean I would expect stuff like the anime and non Namco costumes to be DLC, but come on. Graces only had two full sets for the main cast, with a few more here and there for a few characters, with every DLC one (that wasn't already in the game) being $4 a piece, meaning the entire cameo set costs a whopping $28, nearly half the original price of the game. And while Xillia did better on that angle ($3 each for 6 characters meaning it's only $18 for the cameo set, as an example; still bullshittingly high), they cut down on the ingame costumes even more, to the point there was only FOUR over THREE characters.

I mean for fuck's sake, look how many Abyss had ingame, as rewards from following sidequests or accomplishing various tasks.
>>
>>252805837
If I'm not mistaken all the anime they use are Namco animes.
>>
>>252805816
Baba's only doing gams on Sony systems for the time being since that's what the local fanbase is prone to wanting the games on. As for the XBONE in particular, good for him, I know the local fanbase out there found the situation with Vesperia to be a fiasco, between feeling they had to buy the system for about two games (that and Idolmaster; both by Namco), only for PS3 enhanced ports of both to come out on a system that was more prone to stuff like JRPGs and Japanese games in general. Hold outs for the games were quite happy, while people that bought the originals were pretty livid last I'd heard.

I think I've made a terrible decision.

I imported Vesperia PS3 to play through and learn Japanese as I went along. Took me 6 hours to get through the opening scenes with Ted and Hanks.

I'm glad that Kanji is easy, but fuck Japanese grammar. I can't tell where the conjugations end, where the kana words begin and end, or even where the particles are sometimes.

Well you can use a guide and "claim" to have zero trouble playing the game in a language you don't understand whatsoever like every other chucklefuck who says it

Unless your fluent in Japanese then their is nothing superior about have to read everything from the dialouge to items from a guide because you can't understand what is being said. I will gladly play Vesperia 360 in English with less content because I can appreciate the game more than I would moonspeak Ps3 version

Not attacking you or anything btw
>>
>>252806238
At least for most if not all the story related scenes, you have both text AND voicing (even if the character in question only has 2-3 lines pertaining to the main plot, like the receptionist at the Nordopolica Colosseum), so if you prefer one to the other while learning it's not too unbearable. Still, at the very least the actual gameplay isn't hard to understand, and there's various translation guides for the menus if you find yourself lost in the moonrunes.

>>252807229
They might not have localized them if Code Geass wasn't a huge hit. As far as I know Adult Swim didn't exactly due too many airings of it, maybe just the original run and one rerun season or something. Or the may have left it overseas because references like Asbel and Suzaku having the same Japanese voice actor might have been lost to the west.
>>
>>252807297
>Symphonia 2 and Phantasia GBA
>good
Symphonia was released on PS2, both were released on PS3, the good versions of Phantasia were on the PS1 and PSP, the "complete" version of Graces on the PS3, Abyss had multiplayer on the PS2 so it was better.
>>
>>252807398
Abyss is love it or hate it (I personally love it much like I do the majority of the series), and even people that like the rest of the games are pretty contested on it. Try Eternia or Vesperia at the very least.

>>252807443
Well, considering they have like three different "alphabets" for lack of a better word, I'd say that might be something to be expected. Have you have any past experiences with playing moonspeak games? Might need to consider starting out with something a bit lower level as far as the written characters go.

They used to release on whatever they felt like, but the majority of them did see Sony ports somewhere down the line since Sony's systems are what the Japanese apparently prefer for their console JRPGs (and with the PS2 at least, I can see why). Still, I think the Vesperia debacle really drove the point home to them against doing a lot of releasing on whatever they want, or with whoever pays them the most to develop for them, since the local fanbase was pretty miffed. And if there's one fanbase Namco cares about appeasing, it's the local one.

Also, I would NOT call Phantasia GBA good, especially compared to the other versions, both prior to and after it.

I haven't played enough of them to really say a best one. Symphonia is my favorite thus far though. Part of it is nostalgia probably, but I really enjoyed the story and characters. I enjoyed the second Symphonia game too, though I know it was nowhere near the first game; as a side story, it's an entertaining little side jaunt, and despite the characters being so cringe-worthy at the start, by the end they've come a long ways and changed a lot.

Also, I've always been a huge sucker for the Genis/Presea pairing.

I've only been learning for a little while, so I don`t have any experience with other raw Japanese games at all.

Hiragana and Katakana were easy to memorize, and Kanji is a lot easier than I thought, thankfully.

I probably should try something easier. I can find the Kanji through their radicals, but their conjugations, and the all kana words really trip me up. Especially when they're connected, and there's particles involved.

I'm not exactly the smartest, though, so I have no clue what counts as easy in this language.
>>
>>252808116
As far as I know you need to have certain skills learned and equipped, as well as learn what artes chain well into each other to be able to pull stuff like that off. So don't expect to be able to pull off combos like that right off the bat.

PS3 version also allows for the Artes Sphere to map even MORE artes, doubling it from 8 to 16 at once. And that's not counting burst artes.

>>252808239
Phantasia GBA is simply the worst version of the game if you ask me. Much as I like the GBA, that was not the system to put the game on and try to localize. Probably would have been better if they'd held off until the DS to be able to better handle stuff like the combat speed, music quality, graphics, etc.

I think the idea is that if one isn't the type to buy much besides JRPGs, the PS2 offered the most that generation. Not ragging on Nintendo systems at all (especially since I love the gamecube myself), but while the Gamecube had some good JRPGs on it (Tales of Symphonia, Baten Kaitos+Origins, TTYD, and a few more), it didn't have a huge bulk of them for those heavily interested in them.

I'm not just talking about writing (though the fact that it starts out with a childhood arc and the major themes are friendship and protecting your friends kind of point towards it too). Pretty much everything seems like it was aimed more at kids. Color scheme, for example, is brighter than usual. They use pastel colors way too much.

Depends. Does having good intentions while going about shit wrong, or being a plain asshole still mean you're not evil? If so, most of them. Hell, in Xillia Gaius was barely even what I'd call a villain, and while I do think a clash of ideals with Jude and co was inevitable (in similar fashion to how Flynn and Yuri have differing viewpoints while still being respectful of each other), I think he only got final boss status since the last part of the game was fairly rushed and they needed an actual final boss.

Unlisted was the world map itself, and the items that would go with such a thing like Holy Bottle, which were in the game code but had no use without a world map.

Bear in mind though that there are some things that ARE in the game that the majority of players completely missed, like the Balacruf Mausoleum being entirely intact as an Emil/Richter dungeon.

I think the idea was to try to emulate the watercolor style while applying it to the anime style they already had. And in addition, with it having been developed for the Wii first, they had to work around the limitations of that as far as color, movement, and models (I found myself really rather annoyed with how hair tended to move, especially coming off of how Vesperia handled in it a more fluid style; Graces' hair seemed more solid in comparison, especially for the male cast members), and while the PS3 version did add more content, it didn't do a lot to improve on the colors/models end.

>>252810279
Kind of a shame that as good as Phantasia was, a lot of the original ideas got cut or shifted around. Apparently the original unpublished script, "Tale Phantasia," would have gone more in depth than a game at the time would have allowed for (at least according to what I recall from the aselia wiki article on it), and thus I think a fair amount of his characterization/development was flawed in the presentation of the game as a result. Still, props to Wolf Team for what they managed to accomplish.

I've heard they shelved the DS translation, if not outright abandoned it with the remake being localized. With the former, it's at least to give it time to sell out here, so Namco doesn't just decide to can localizing portable Tales games again like they did after Phantasia GBA and Radiant Mythology.

And yeah, as far as I know Kaji loves to rant about localizations. I remember him having one against Xillia, but that honestly didn't come off as too bad to me on the whole, so maybe as someone that does know moonspeak it hits him harder than most, or he's blowing things out of proportion.

Eternia, Symphonia, and Vesperia are all excellent starting points, just depends on what you have access to. And no, Eternia is not on the PSN, and physical PS1 copies cost a good $90 where I live. Fun game though.

From what I played of Vesperia the game makes it extremely easy to stunlock enemies and then maintain the stunlock allowing players to rack up huge combos. In order to counterbalance that though the bosses in Vesperia have a fuckton of health compared to previous games like Symphonia and Abyss.

Xillia made it so that bosses can automatically break out of stunlock after a short while which a lot of people didnt like. From what I've heard though they changed in Xillia 2 where you can keep stunlocks going as long as you continue attack the enemies weaknesses.
>>
>>252812676
Nope. I don't even recall it being on the PSN in Japan.

If you like JRPGs and haven't played Wild Arms, consider getting those since they're in the sale. Been playing the first one and it's been pretty good, with a lot of charm to it, and I've heard a lot of good things about the second game as well (barring the translation at times).

Word of advice for you to note: Symphonia was the fifth main game in the series, while Xillia is the thirteenth. Xillia's got more refined combat, but Symphonia is still quite fluid in what it manages. And that's a rather big thing about the series. Going back at least as far as Eternia, the series for the most part still manages to be fluid and fun to play, as long as you don't let some of the earlier, more basic entries being unrefined compared to later ones turn you off too much, and even Phantasia PS1 is still fluid as far as melee goes. Unfortunately for Destiny, the excellent PS2 remake and Director's Cut were never localized, so the only English version (the PS1 original) can be a bit clunky, which for some is a bit of a turn off.

>Memorable and incredibly amusing cast

>Tons of content, even in the Xbox version

PS3 Vesperia's humanoid bosses tech out of combos like no tomorrow, unless you use some shenanigans to make them stop for your current combo. That's why you never see bosses getting juggled in combo exhibition videos.

You talking about European/PAL spines in general? I honestly never got what was with the decision to almost always use that same font, black text, white background for spines out there. I personally like the way the US handles them. Most times anyways. It's annoying when games in a given series on the same console by the same publisher suddenly shift stuff up. Have you ever played through an RPG in moon before? The tales games aren't too difficult to navigate if you don't understand moon.

I started with Symphonia on the GC, then imported the PS2 Symphonia, and from there I got into all the games in the series in moonland. The transition was smooth.

So I suppose what I recommend to you is this.

If you are just interested in Vesperia, and haven't played moon games before, go for the 360 version.

If you have played moon games before, or are familiar with tales series, and would like this to be your first introduction to moon, the PS3 version is far, far superior and worth the extra dosh and the time you will spend looking things up online. It will also help introduce you to moon games and you will be able to enjoy the rest of the series

because some vita fanboy got mad and started spamming it with /b/ tier shit and spoilers for Xillia 2 and Type 0

>Vita fanboy angry at people who like JRPGs
What? Granted I haven't been to /jrpg/, so maybe I'm wrong and they actually hate JRPGs.
>>
>>252818458
no, it's that JRPG insulted the Vita and that apparently caused one guy to go on a one man crusade.

Shit like releasing Hearts R over Vesperia PS3 didn't help
>>
>>252817935
God I fucking hate Cheria. Second worst Tales character.
Never thought I'd miss the relationship system from Symphonia.
>>
>>252818610
To be fair I get why they'd be mad that Baba localizes Hearts R as a supposed "appeal to the fans" instead of Vesperia PS3 considering how many people still want the latter
>>
>>252818773
If your first worst Tales character isn't Assbel you're doing something wrong

Bullshit, its the other way around. Hearts r getting localized lit their asses on fire and some meat heads started shit talking all things Vita and Tales for a while.

That's pretty clever Namco.

I'm worried about playing the 2D games. Do they even work without nostalgia?

I can't help but feel like they'd pale in comparison when I started with their modern alternatives.

Eternia is still fine as an older 2d Tales. Phantasia for PS is good too, if a but clunky.
>>

Modified stuff can load on OFWs that are below 3.56. This is the planned method for R3volution's operation.
They're still at it, and they expect people to stay on 3.55 OFW, hahahah

Of course all that DRM will be rendered absolutely useless after some hours

If you really enjoyed Symphonia you'd get a kick out of Phantasia's story since it's in the same universe.
Otherwise, you don't know unless you try. I really enjoy the 2D games even though I started with 3D.

That doesn't mean you're out. I have a 160 GB Slim (Move Sports Champions 1 bundle) that works.

Check model number and datecode (two characters inside a square in the label). CECH20xx are all good, CECH25xx some are (the Move SC1 console is this one) - you need to confirm with the datecode, and CECH30xx consoles are out of the question.

Since the Lv0 keys are out, 4.xx CFWs make everything smooth and easy. No more EBOOT signing bullshit to take care of.

Xillia was handled by 8-4, and it was a pretty damn solid job if you ask me.
Perhaps he's mad about the bazongas.
>>
>TFW you are the only one that liked Legendia.
I really liked the change from "Demon Fang!" to throwing and punching everything. I can accept that the story was kind of bad though.
It also had a fucking awesome OST:

We pretty much accept that thought Legendia was the worst 3D Tales, it has the BEST soundtrack

Motoi Sakuraba is pretty great but this is next level shit

>Assuming you have both consoles, is it worth buying Vesperia 360 in english or Vesperia PS3 and not understanding Moon?

No, it's not. Get the 360 version of Verperia and enjoy it. What you get in the ps3 version are a few QoL things. Nothing changes the main story, actually to the point Flynn fucks up some things since he's never suppost to join you since he has his own agenda.

PS3 shits all over that just so the fangirls could have him playable. Patty is ok but again does nothing to the story or gameplay. Basically DLC characters. Great if you like them but not needed.

Everthing else is just minor stuff. Costumes, more arena, few extra sidequests, AI fixing. Nice to have but holding out for the moon version is just stupid.

Last spurt of progress was in March. Penultimate bar of verifications was filled, leaving only menus which moved from 94% to 96%.
Considering they're menus, it's all probably done. The only thing left is the magic bar, aka DRM.
