I like playing every once in a while, but it is not a good game. There is no content worth playing outside of void towers and sorties because nothing else gives you money or rewards. Well I mean, people usually find one stage that gives adequate exp but it always ends up with the warframes who excel at that map getting nerfed, even when they aren't that good for other types of missions or solo play.
The developers are always adding half-assed new content. Focus was a disaster and instead of fixing it they decided to ruin stealth gameplay and the changes to enemy spawning were bad enough to affect most mission types negatively. And they use the fact that the game is F2P and "just a beta" to constantly justify making things more tedious all the time.

I don't like how grindy and luck-based some warframe parts can be though. The gigantic build times of 3 days can be bothersome to a few, but I don't mind it, odds is that I'm searching for new parts.
It's fun for me but I can see why some people bash the game.

The UI is one of the worst abominations I've ever seen, I mean it looks swanky and all that but looks!=function, it performs like as steaming pile of horse shit.
The constant barrage of fucking ui animations bog this fucking game down like a joke, and they quite often outright fucking break. The chat is especially bad and is, in fact, the worst chat system I have ever had the displeasure of using. What fucking moron decided to make the chat this bad? They deserve death.
The ui scaling itself is fucking disgusting over anything past 1080p, and even at 1080 it's stupid. It's either fisher price blocks big or too small for function properly, THERE IS NO MIDPOINT.
They try so hard to be unique and cool that they make this shit a fucking chore to navigate.
The parkour system is neat in theory, but in practice all that happens is you fuck everything up for 100hours and then learn to master it, or you stop playing. Most of the frames are riddled with useless shit, and the frames that aren't shit will inevitably get nerfed- I mean "reworked" into uselessness.
The lightweight style of the ui is nice in theory, too, but all it does is make things you want to see disappear when you don't want them too, or be obfuscated behind this shitty faggot ui so badly you can barely figure out how to find them.
Seriously though, FUCK UI ANIMATIONS! NEVER FUCKING USE UI ANIMATIONS LIKE THIS! MAKE it pop up instantly, and crisply, THEN add art.

The gunplay is half good half bad. It's also mired down in so much bullshit that you need a PHD in potatology to understand how it works, and again, because everything has to be flashy and animated, it fucks with you even more. If you don't build it "right" you are a fucking useless sack of shit who can't do anything, no matter how nice it looks or sounds. (then you need to grind for 1000 hours to get the right mods to DO DAMAGE)
It's just a never ending onslaught of pointlessly shiny things that do nothing but make it difficult to interpret what is going on, and then they make everything show a shitload of art so you are further overloaded with useless pixels.
There's also no simple display, you need to scroll through ten pages of bullshit to find what you want. The sorting functions are practically non existent, too.

Ivara - make people invisible.
Frost - make protective force fields.
Equinox - heal/incapacitate enemies.
Vauban - make huge no-go zones.
Nova - slow and weaken enemies.
They all have some support roles.
My favorite lazy frame is Nekros though.
I have a 70 second duration on my shadows and an augment that makes me pretty much unkillable while they're active, so I can practically AFK after I've bagged some good pokeymans.

Monster Hunter is basically just grinding for better gear so you can grind for better gear too, but it's very highly regarded because the gameplay and progression are engaging, it's the same case with Warframe.

Have a look at what weapons you want from them, rather than which one you align with morally.

Honest opinion here for all newcomers and fuck whatnot others who want to discuss the game
I started playing this game when Loki was still a starter frame. Back in the day the UI was really shitty and navigating through the menus was a pain in the ass. Game was FAST as fuck and there were not much frames to pick. Resources were not that hard to get but the grind was there. I kept playing the game with friends but as soon they lost interest I stopped playing since I had no one to play.
Came back around Update 14. There were a lot of nice looking frames. Some of them were really strong but were nerfed to the ground. I came back and in a matter of weeks of daily playing for about 2 hours or so I got one Rhino Prime, Valkyr, Frost, Nyx, Mirage, and Nekros. I haven't got any prime weapons but I'm working on them along Liki Prime and Nyx Prime.
The grind is real, but is not as grindy as some folk might say. I regularly visit the general in /vg/ and is more of a mindset. When I started the game It annoyed me the fact that I had to grind SO MUCH just to get basic stuff. Was surprised by the fact that it wasn't like that. I remember longer periods of farming in other MMO's.
Plat is not that hard to come by as people here might imply. Even in /wfg/ people admit that gaining plat is easy as fuck. You go to the void you get some prime parts easily and you sell them overpriced to whales. I've managed to pay for slots, classic colors and another orbiter this way. It ain't hard to get platinum.
Advice to newcomers:
- Use the goddamn wiki. It's full with usefull info
- Check the general at /vg/ for usefull stuff about what is the stuff that actually works
- Most frames are fun. Some frames do their job better than the others (Trinity > Oberon). Some frames are just plain shit (Limbo)
- Almost all weapons are shit. Some weapons are fun, just a lil bit of those fun weapons are actually good in post-DEAC (DE approved content. It means stuff that is overpowered)

There was a time when nobody thought DE would ever drop blind nuke ults or implement continuous skills. There was a time when the possibility of completely removing stamina was but a dream. There was a time when we expected DE to be so incompetent that removing ability mods and reducing warframe mod slots would never, ever, ever be a possibility. Ability synergy would never be possible, some 'frames would just get nerfed into complete and utter uselessness and never, ever get buffed back up, and so on.
I don't know what changed, but DE has really picked up the ball these last few major updates. The RNG worship hasn't changed, but the gameplay variety and depth have seriously improved, and by the sounds of things will continue to improve furtherNo more Serration, guns gain power as they rank up? I can get behind that, as it'll allow for greater variation in mod setups. I hope they don't fuck with Multishot too badly though.

I made this comparison in another thread, but think of Infested and Warframes as two sides of the same coin. Like the Zerg.
Infested are the Zerg with no Overmind, no cerebrates. Just mindlessly consuming, absorbing, mutating, with no real direction or goal except for the base instinct to spread. They were borne from the need to create something not quite technological, but not as simple as just armour and biology, to fight against the Sentient. But they were uncontrollable.
Warframes are basically the Orokin acting as Overmind. Searching. Straining. Filtering. Finding the strongest specimens, isolating and replicating their abilities and strengths, and minimizing their weaknesses. Every Warframe was based on an original, a person or a creature. Operators are like Cerebrates.

The Second Dream, update 18. Not too long ago, a couple weeks or so. A new "cinematic" quest was added to the game, an expansion of the Sentient arrival storyline.
Spoilers:That's your Operator. You can customize them. Basically how it works is, these people were basically orphans of a ship lost in the Void, which warped them, changed them... gave them powers they couldn't control. So, they were put into a sleep, where their powers were dormant. They were scheduled to be executed before they could do harm to the Orokin, who feared them as demons because of how they survived and how they were changed and how they couldn't control their abilities and they were already fighting a losing war against the Sentient, but a woman called Margulis was trying to save them, going against the Orokin directive. To give them a semblance of a normal life, so that people wouldn't fear them, she worked to design a psychic neuro-link system called Transference so that they could be given new bodies to control via proxy in a sort of lucid dream state in their original bodies.
Whereas the Technocyte Virus supersoldiers that the Orokin were trying to develop for use against the Sentient --not quite technology, not quite biology, in a way that the Sentient couldn't hijack and control-- were uncontrollable by the Orokin and eventually became the Infested. However, while Margulis was executed by the Orokin for going against their directive, her work on Transference became the building blocks for controlling the Technocyte. The powers of a void child could be refined, controlled, channeled via Transference, so they became the Orokin's supersoldiers. Margulis paid the ultimate price... but, one way or another, the children she had hoped to save did manage to live on. Hooked up via Transference, the Technocyte could now be controlled, and weaponized against the Sentient, with the Children of the Void using their powers through the Warframes.

pick excalibur for first frame
starting weapons don't matter, just pick what you want
when your first weapons are level 30, buy the other starters from the market (the actual weapon is 15000 credits)
farm frost for an early ticket into void groups
spend starter plat on a warframe slot and weapon slots

Mag's a bit weak right now, and Loki is frail as fuck and a major energy hog to be useful. Excalibur is the biggest pain in the ass to grind for out of the three if you want to expand your 'frame collection, so you should stick with it.
You'll eventually get to a point where you can trade mods to other people for plat so you can get more slots. Just don't expect to be doing that right away--you won't have the weapons, mods, or upgrades to do that efficiently right now. Just focus on getting to the bosses and grinding out new 'frames. A Loot Radar mod might be helpful for getting you some resources early on.

there are two main clans as of now in the alliance warbros prime and warbros NFA.
NFA is the old original warbros prime but the main competetive people split into warbros prime and original prime renamed themselves into No Fun Allowed. thats the casual clan where everyone one from /vg/ or /v/ is basically welcome.
Prime is what old Prime was like pretty much but only 30 people can be in it at any time. this was done to give warbros the #1 spot should a headcount even happen again like false profit. where it didnt matter how much you did the event. it only mattered that everyone member did it atleast once.
NFA got fucked hard due to size. but Prime go #1. both clans are in an alliance called warbretheren.
you can literally join NFA right now and its basically old warbros.
no chance of joining prime though since its full and only people that havent logged in for 10 days get kicked out to make place for someone else from NFA.
also NFA and prime pretty much alienated the other clans in the alliance to the point where theyre afraid to even talk in chat.
