Is it any good?
>>
>>250182584
It is, surprisingly.
Shooting off the limbs of alien scum with a plasma cutter never gets old.
>>
yes

2 and 3 are terrible
>>
>>250182584
Yeah, get a flamer for little shits, plasma cutter for regular stuff and pulse rifle against bosses.

Rest is up to you.
>>
yes, and the environment is eerie and spooky
never played it, just sat in a couch and watched, played the second and it was alright
>>
Yes, but like most EA franchises, it got run into the ground pretty quick.

The sequels were ho-hum. 2 had some great moments but they turned Issac into a whiny bitch the entire game. 3 was just a stock action game.

I shut off 3 in disgust the moment it told me to crouch behind cover
>>
>>250182584
yes. I remember seeing some videos and though 'meh', but when I played I could not stop until the end. Right now I'm playing the 3rd and despite many ppl hate it, I think it's very good
>>
>>250182918
Naw man, 2 is cool.
3 is terrible though.

2 was linear as hell and removed all the spooky

i felt like i was playing an action game when i played 2
>>
I enjoyed it a lot, the ambiance is perfect. The only flaw I found was that after the third chapter, you knew exactly where the enemy was going to appear. Its a solid 8.5/10

It's Resident Evil 4 in space minus the humor. Has great moments, and amazing ambient effects. Jump scares become predictable.

Great game, I'd reccomend using a controller if you're gonna get it on PC tho. Use sweetfx too, to make the game darker and have better lighting.

I'm gonna play the devil's advocate here. I really enjoyed Dead Space 2; it was atleast on par with DS1. Playing them both side-by-side will make you realize how improved and smoother the gameplay is in 2, although the clunkiness of 1 sort of adds to the atmosphere. I also enjoyed DS3, but it's definitely the worst of the series. They expanded the gameplay aspects, such as spaceflight and combat, but at some points it was too much. Weapon crafting, for example, is charming at first, but it becomes pretty defunct later on when you're not sure what combination is the best and just want the old style weapons back. I'd reccomend them, definitely get them on sale.

Gamer's gate is actually having an EA sale where you can get all the games for 5 bucks each (dlc is another 5).
>>
>>250182584
I personally find it overrated, because the atmosphere and combat gets old fast, if you've played 4 chapters you've played the whole game
The story is also very weak
>>
Watch out! There is a spook behind every corner.

It gets old in the first 5 minutes.
>>
>>250183282

>>
I like Dead Space 1, I love Dead Space 2, and I was too disgusted to even buy 3.
It's the little improvements in 2 I like, minor graphical touches that have a big effect, and the fact that Isaac actually speaks and has some character is nice.
>>
>>250182584
Do you like RE4? Do you like aliens?
Do you like games that are not particularly scary?

If yes to all, yes, it's a damn good game.
>>
>>250182584
There are people who will shit on it for the jump scares, and there are plenty, but for me, the mood and the environment of that game were so phenomenal that they created more of a sense of fear than the monsters, themselves. It's worth spending some time in the ISS Ishimura.
>>
>>250186762
>>250186890
I will admit that by the second or third playthrough the little background noises and stuff were really wearing on my nerves and making me feel tense and unsettled.
>>
>>250183045
It's alright, but it removed a lot of what was good in the previous two.

Also, microtransactions and cover based shootan.
>>
>>250186313
What did you think was weak about the story? I thought it was pretty straightforward on the narrative end, with appropriate elements successfully vague in order preserve some ambiguity and/or mystique.

>>250187404
Fuck yeah, man. That goddamn sound design made me clench.
>>
>>250187638
I know nobody likes the argument, but you don't have to buy the micro-transactions. I'm almost finished with the game and haven't bought anything. The cover based shooting was surprisingly used sparingly, if anything it was nice to have a change of gameplay.
>>
>>250187762
It was bland and unmemorable copy of various other horror franchises, I'll take AvP and System Shock anyday over this
>>
>>250186714
I liked 2 a lot as well, and I think in order to differentiate itself from the original, it had to change up the formula, but I liked wandering around the gothic tomb of the Ishimura more than Titan. I think many of the individual areas of Titan were more fleshed out and interesting, but they were less of a cohesive, foreboding place than the Ishimura. Also the fact that the attack on Titan was ongoing made it feel more frantic and less isolated and desecrated than the original game's setting.
>>
>>250188081
Yeah, you don't have to buy anything, but the good weapon attachments are locked behind a paywall and a mystery box, if I remember rightly. And tbh, the cover based shooting was spare, because you only fight human enemies about five times during the campaign, and they were so out of whack with what the series is about, it felt like (and feels like) a betrayal,
>>
>>250188097
I loved AvP and AvP2. Dead Space's story beats those hands down, despite being derivative.
>>
>>250188097
All AvP games so far have been fps or shit/not scary at all. Dead Space has plenty of gameplay elements of System Shock, if anything its a better spiritual successor than bioshock.
>>
>>250188474
I remember on my first playthrough, going to the Ishimura made me nervous as fuck, it was what the first two did great, which were atmosphere and sound design.
>>
Deadspace the first was like a little horror in space done right

>walking around a spaceship seperated from your crew
>finding little audio logs from the former crew, raging from mundane conversations up to full blown suicide notes as they feel killing themselves in preferential to what is to come
>crazyman keeps trying to make you understand how great it is to become one with the unimind by sending waves of the monstrosities after you

Then EA smelled the success of the first and like EVERY SINGLE FUCKING SHOOTER THEY HAVE THEY TRIED TO MAKE IT COD
>>
>>250182584
yea, but its only like jump scares
>>
>>250183306
>i felt like i was playing an action game when i played 2
It's because you were.
>>
>>250188649
I think it was the ultra/epic weapon packs. You could buy those with ingame res. or dosh but it was definitely rng bullshit. The worst part of it for me is that DS3 is a singleplayer (coop, but not competitive) game. You can, with a little effort, beat the game with just the in-game stuff. Putting payed ease-of-access dlc into a singleplayer game is nothing more than a cash-grab.

So was 1, there was no proper hub mode, which everyone seems to harp on about when you compare the two. If anything, 3 had the biggest ability to free roam and there were even a few side quest spots.

>removed all the spooky, action game
It was more of an action game than 1 was, because EA smelled success. Still had a few spooky moments though, like going back on the Ishimura.

The wasn't central hub for all the chapters, but all the areas had a sort of minihub to return to. I liked the first one more, but 2 is a better game for a lot of reasons, including pic related.
>>
>>250189595
they could have made the ishimura the only section in Deadspace 2 without necros and it would have been the best horror section of the game

>the audio logs of the janitor
>"Im hearing scratching and growling in the vents but when i check em they stop"
>"im all alone down here for some reason, all the others have left and dont want to work here"

Ironically enough, the series goes down hill with each sequel. It becomes more of an action game in later sequels.

It's OK. It's not really scary at all but the shooting mechanics feel nice and the sound design is good. Though it feels a bit clunky compared to 2, its probably worth the fiver it usually goes on sale for.
>>
>>250190482
It probably wasn't.

Michael Altman (the Church founder) was a scientist who studied the original Marker, and there was presumably an event surrounding it, since it was destroyed (I think this was referenced in one of the games' logs) So, it's possible he witnessed a Convergence, survived it, went mad with Marker dementia, and started the Church.

suprise suprise EA's influence on the Dev went up and up as the series went on

i think the only reason 1 was as good was because EA didnt see it as a lucritive thing and just let visceral games just do their thing

>EA CEO : hmm hmm, stock value, marketing budget, hmm hmm
>EA underling: sir, that Deadspace game that Visceral made, people LIKE IT, they are buying it in droves!

Basically 1 is the most atmospheric and spooky. 2 the best game mechanically and gameplay wise. 3 Is just terrible with the only redeeming factor being the weapon mod system.

I can recommend the hardcover artbook, the comics and the books if you're interested in the story or just more Dead Space stuff.

They're all nicely drawn/written and expand upon the story without taking it too far.

The thing I like most about Dead Space is how it's not all about saving the world or some shit, the stories are about dudes getting caught in a shitstorm and trying to survive.

1 is probably in my top 5 games of last gen. 2 is good but removed any tension and became too actiony. Also the final boss from 2 was beyond shit. 2 also had the crappiest bosses in general. One of the bosses is literally you just running past shit then shooting a single explosive near its mouth BOOM you're done.

3 is pretty shitty but not beyond the kind of shitty that you can't play it. The story becomes just terrible. Necromorph moons eating the galaxy out of life bleh.

I never got the complaint about 2 being too actiony.

I never ran out of ammo for my plasma cutter and just murdered everything I could in DS1. Stasis slow+Shoot and stop made the game fun and actiony. and fuck you if you enjoyed the gun-making system, it was so fucking broken, universal ammo, AND a two-weapon limit to force you to use that shit

You know, I tried this in Dead Space 3 after getting good results in 1 and 2. There are long stretches where the sound team just did not bother doing any ambient noise because of the orchestral score playing over it. Inside the ships and on planet. Turn down the music and you've got nothing but the sounds made by the player and enemies.

It feels like the plug was pulled on development half or two thirds of the way in to accommodate EA's new franchise-focus policy and yet still expected to ship. There are text logs everywhere which are literally transcripts of conversations which in any other world would have been voiced.

Good game overall. Not perfect, but good. Worth playing at least once.

It has a minimalist HUD done very well, weapons are reasonably balanced (>using anything other than the plasma cutter), tension is inconsistent due to how predictable sequences can get and there being many more LOUD SECTIONS WHERE SIRENS ARE BLARING AND GABLEBARBLE COMING FROM THE NECROMORPHS than there should be, but there are unnerving parts. The boot stomp sounds way too impactful for it's own good, it tricks you into thinking that it would be useful in combat.

No one knows what sort of black arts EA uses to ruin games. We just know that as soon as title they produce makes money or becomes popular, the inevitable sequels are at best worse than the first game (Mass Effect 2) or are at worst are complete shit (Dragon Age 2 and Mass Effect 3).

its simple

EA wants a COD of their own like activision has

Activision could make the next COD be all about you being a soldier and having to escape out of an orphanage/day care center and having to use all your weapons and lethal force training at your disposal and morons would still buy it

so they take something that is popular and make it into a COD clone, hoping that it will still be popular

Why does Dead Space 3 get so much hate? The gameplay is basically the same as the first two plus the ability to roll.
The cover system is only needed when human enemies show up, and once you get past the prologue chapter you can probably count the times that happens on one hand, plus most of the time you can just sit and wait for them to get swarmed by necros anyway.
The co-op isn't forced on you like in RE5/6, and it's actually pretty fun if you have someone to play it with.
Weapon crafting is a great system, and the microtransaction stuff can be bought with ingame currency so there's not even a reason to complain about it.
Honestly, the only thing I dislike about 3 is the universal ammo and how abundant it is.

Speaking of Stross, Jesus those Dead Space movies were terrible.
The second one was the worst. That CGI man.

Dead Space 3 isn't so bad as long as you try not to consider it a Dead Space title.

Weapon customization was pretty cool for a bit.

>not wanting to kick Isaac down, then kick him when he's down, then steal his wallet

I agree with you, I just like the idea of Isaac's life being an endless sinkhole of misery. While I'm sure someone could have written the romance plot well, it's best that any writing staff employed by EA not even try.

I hate how they didn't apply this for Dead Space 3.
And as dumb as my idea was, I really wanted the Ishimura to re-appear in Dead Space 3.
Fuck, Imagine if it was the ship Isaac and Carver had to use to get to Earth in the Awakened DLC.

>Well I'd like to see YOU make one!

Besides, we already offered some: Bob Johnson, Blast Hardcheese, H.P. Heinlein, and Ridley Cameron are all better names than Isaac "Oh, I See What You Did There" Clarke.
