Honestly, we need more threads like this. The reason /v/ and to a greater extent nerd culture has become so bitter and wrapped up in this stupid SJW was (at least the way it looks to me after watching it off and on for the last few years) is because the SJWs started it by being inflammatory and trying to draw attention to their pet causes at the cost of reasoned debate. Japan is backwards in a lot of ways regarding gender equality to the point that even most of /v/ would acknowledge it, but their nerd culture is far more egalitarian than America's. It's fucking weird.
One possible reason for this might be the fact that Japan's nerd subculture is far less puritanical about sex than the west is so rather than decry the sexualization of women in video games and how they're creating a "toxic, unwelcoming environment" for female gamers, female otaku just pump out a ton of porn instead and lobby for more male fanservice in games. Really, sticking tons of male fanservice into games is probably a better way of attracting more females into gaming instead of taking out female fanservice. It's just that most western feminists are far too uptight about sex to realize this.
