What was it about the 90s that made games so special?
you were a kid, and it was all new at the time
no social media bullshit full of narcissistic whores telling their audience how much a game sucks.
we cared about the games we owned, even the shitty ones. You had to physically go out and buy them too... which meant holding it in your hand. No instant gratification of downloading to hard drive (or roms).
until sony came along with their greatest hits games, it came out... u lined up to buy it. and envied the kid who got it before you could. None of that "ill just wait until it drops in price" or "ill buy it used" bullshit.
no leaked footage on youtube. No spoilers about censorship or the ending or anything until the first magazine article hit the shelves.

Online wasn't the norm on consoles so if devs made a game they made it to work with little to no bugs instead of patching it after release.
/v/ didn't fucking exist

The internet wasn't big enough to ruin everything it touches.

this
Games didn't cost a gorillian dollars to make, which meant devs could take risks.
Good luck doing that now.

No, instead we had narcissistic politicians and televangelists telling us that our games had demons in them and encouraged too much violence. This whole "SJW" thing is just the same bullshit as the "moral guardians" of the past, but just with a faux-progressive veneer to suit the times.
>>319256931
At least game companies ignored those guys.

This.
/thread.
The only way to save gaming...is to DESTROY THE INTERNET.
>>319256931
The difference is that almost nobody took seriously those guys and they didn't have any influence in how video games were made, but sjw's are defended by video games sites/magazines and people in the industry and they do have the power to influence companies to make games more "progressive".
>>319254398
Pretty much this. We didn't have access to the kind of inside knowledge of the industry that we do today. Games were these amazing things made in the magical land of Japan.
>>319254398 I was about to argue with you, but then I was like "...shit he's right."
>>319253270
It was during your childhood.

you weren't there

>not taken seriously
>elected a president
casual money didn't control the industry back then
>>319254398
ROMs/emulation was already a thing in the 90s, just not as advanced. By 1998 or 1999 you could emulate pretty much everything up to SNES, I believe.

True but it was still after the 32-bit era had started.

>tfw have a shoddy put together geocities website with hamsterdance playing with hosted warez files and linked to the biggest gamez sites
