The demo got great reception here, main reasons were the charm and the subversion that managed to elicit an emotional response, something most games these days can't do

A game is revered by many /v/ posters and this leads to an abundance of threads on said game, leading to a clusterfuck of people losing their shit over every minute detail in the game and confusion by those uninitiated.
Usually these games stay popular in /v/ only, but because Undertale is a special game, it became popular in 'normie' forums like Reddit and Tumblr, the latter particularly loving the game for its warmth towards LGBTABCDEFGH rights or whatever.
They start raving about it too, and this leads to the fallible fanbase theory: a fanbase that is too big for /v/ is too big to exist.
The addition of a furry stigma to those who like the game alienated more people on /v/, and thus here we are.
I've played it. I'm not going to share my opinion on it because YOU have to be the one to experience it. No amount of shitposting or fanboying will stop this.

Pacifist ending is impossible to lose in since you when you die you are brought right back to where you're left off in the fight, also goat mom's son is flowy

Both involve characters that are essentially one trait personified. Rarity is the fashion bitch. Pinkie Pie is the wacky one. Twilight is the nerd. Sans is the edgelord. Flowey is the double edgelord. Udyne is the dyke. Alphys is the nerd lesbian. Papyrus is wacky. They are paper thin caracatuers, and for whatever reason, the fanbases respectively just latch on to these one dimensional characters and make "content" of them until they are twisted and run into the ground, something Toby actually predicted would happen.

I feel like this is an awfully bold claim to make, but it seems as though your standard for how well a video game is written is how well the character development, plot structure, etc. might translate into some other medium. The truth of the matter is that video games are hard to write with the same depth as other mediums because playing a video game requires long-term involvement, and unless the designer sacrifices all of the gameplay aspects of the game (which is, I think, the case with games such as Gone Home).
In games, I think that it is excusable to sacrifice character depth if you can write them well enough as to seem believable OR entertaining. (please note that I'm not saying that the characters in Undertale are particularly believable, I'm just giving scenarios in which character flatness might be excusable). Undertale's characters are not deep; they're entertaining. Maybe there's something wrong with this. What I do know is that despite the characters' shallowness, I personally found myself quite attached to the ingame world.
Is this sufficient to make the game good rather than tripe that the public eats up? I don't know. Maybe it is tripe, and maybe I ought to be ashamed for liking a bad game. I know that there are many examples of bad entertainment that people nonetheless enjoy, kitsch art being a shining example of this.
