Fine for a first time OP. It'll be interesting to see what you have, but some of that music is downright terrible and those sprites are eh. I think you posted earlier with some of them animated right? Just work on improving yourself overall. It's not the worst ever, it just doesn't have anything too special going for it.

Okay!

The game has SRPG gameplay. The main character M'nogim the Merciless, as well as his dopey but well-meaning sidekick Jed, are age-old necromancers with the power to summon skeletons.

The basic storyline is that M'nogim's daughter has been kidnapped by the evil king, O'robos. (That's him with the mustache and the red robe with the helmet that has a tail coming our of it.)

Throughout the game, you meet many quirky boss characters.

Ask some specific questions; it would be difficult to explain every facet of the game in one post.

The game is called Phocis.

Not only is the whale a boss, he's the final boss. His backstory is in pic related. His boss theme for phase 1 is The Big Battle (https://soundcloud.com/iwilldevouryourkittens/the-big-battle), and for phase 2 when you gain the upper hand the music changes to Battle for Lichkind (https://soundcloud.com/iwilldevouryourkittens/battle-for-lichkind).

That footage is not only archaic, it's obsolete. And it has nothing to do with the game

It's from 2 years ago, when I was just dicking around in c++ to see what I could do for a game. The only thing that stuck was the name Phocis, which I carried onto this project.

It needs to be more cohesive. Right now, it just feels like a random mishmash of sounds you found catchy. The entire thing thing just feels so flawed, so I can only hope none of these tracks are finalized.

Intro is pretty fine, though. I'm not sure what those heavy thuds/gunshot noises are called, but they feel out of place.

There's actually a story behind it.

The project was started by a collaborator, who eventually left, leaving me the only one working on it. He suggested the name "phocis", and it just stuck.

For the record; dread plays at the end of each stage. After all enemies have been defeated and the boss unit is down to 1 HP, the sky darkens, mist covers the battlefield, M'nogim says "you're in my world now", and skeleton minions begin rapidly spawning. It's basically a "bonus level" where you just get to see how much you can beat up the boss before finishing him off.

after listening to few tracks randomly, I have to say that not all are compatible with their titles. For example, True final boss (legacy) is not epic enough in my opinion. Too much guitar (or whatever it is), not enough "ommm" If you want guitar on final boss, listen to Serious Sam soundtrack, Croteam did it perfectly. The true final boss isn't actually supposed to be super-epic.

The scenario for it is that after the credits, if you boot the game up again an extra stage opens up. It's a mysterious sealed cave.

The true final boss is M'nogim's father, who was sealed away on account of being too powerful. The boss is gonna be super-hard, but considering it's basically just you roughhousing with your pops, it's not supposed to be an "epic fight to the finish".

I will agree, though, that Serious Sam is based.

But anon, True last boss fights should be as epic as they can be, that is what makes vidya different from visual novels, the challenge. Well, you composed music so probably you don't have anything to do with design, and that is my personal opinion. After looking at this "Acerak" design, i think it may work, if background textures will be matching with everything else.

But desu, still no mater how nice music you composed, it's up to gameplay to make game good/bad/visual novel.

I actually designed the Chron-O-Matic before I was even aware of Excavalier's existence. I had forgotten about Pokemon and hadn't gotten back into the series at the time, so I didn't know about anything past Gen 4 save for the very biggest legendaries.

Trial & error. Go out there and fail many times. You'll get it eventually.

Also keep your volumes low. Do your mixing at low volumes. You can always boost it all up in your mastering process.
