I enjoyed it for 600+ hours and still enjoy it daily. It do agree that it is very flawed, though. I am also currently playing through the entire series, which is a lot of fun.

I got an S-rank on everything, got my Raiden costume and all. And it barely took 100 hours if we're being generous.
The real pain in the ass are the secondary objectives on the missions. It's dreadful and excruciating and horrible and all that stuff. It's an extremely long and unfun process, ya know?
Still, I can't imagine how could anyone get 600 hours out of it, I'd say it would take about 250 hours if you're really taking your time to 100% it, so how can it hold up for an extra 350h ride? I'm genuinely curious

I wish Kojima had done more to establish Venom as his own character, like imagine if he had the foresight and had made the Medic a central character since Peace Walker.
The little tidbits we get to see are nice, he's a better leader than John could ever have hoped to be. He's a very caring (listen to the cut Paz dialogue), pacifistic man and I love how that is contrasted against his grotesque appearance. I find it interesting that MSF's best soldier... happens to be a Medic, he took pride in saving lives, which makes having to put down his own men who he cannot save all the more tragic.
Here's another thought, when you think about how so many people worship and idolize the 'legend' of Big Boss, don't you think that goes against David's words of 'thinking for yourself' at the end of Sons of Liberty? It's almost amusing how many fans are eager to eat up whatever spew Big Boss feeds them since, he's the hero! He can do no wrong!
The Phantom Pain's ending felt like a huge, resounding 'fuck you' to those people and I love it for that.

The mgs games always had good gameplay but people came to that equal parts for the gameplay and the spectacle of a story kojima had come up with. This game had better gameplay but lacked a spectacle, and whats more it even advertised itself that it would have a crazy plot. Its good on its own but fans rightfully feel sort of robbed.

He never actually leads. He takes orders from everyone else. Venom never does his own thing except for that one time when he put Huey on a boat, something his men weren't thrilled with.

I barely roll during FOB infiltrations. Most of the times I just crouch walk. Alternatively I dolphin dive.
Reaching the core isn't all there is to it. I may be stealing personell, weapons, containers or nukes. I may also have to duke it out with a rival if they appear to defend their FOB.
Last but not least, FOB are affected by player personalization. An advanced player may have a much harder to infiltrate FOB then a newcomer. Custom mine and camera placement makes for a whole different game.

I know. I have like 700 or 800 successful FOB infiltrations. And yes, rewards are too small.

And that's where you're wrong. At no point during this conversation have I defended the game. I have simply stated how I play the game, because people were curious how I got above 600 hours of gameplay out of it. I know shit about metal gear but from all the videos and screens of this game i see in these thread it looks like the best The Mercenaries sequel they never made.
Admittedly I never played MGS4 - but this MGS felt great. Clean, comfortable and neat game play. Good graphics, but the main issue was lack of originality. If there were 50 DIFFERENT missions, with possibly a third country to explore, I'd commend this game further. Nevertheless. Good game. 8/10.

The first half of the game was great. The second half was the first half without any new content to justify it.
