I wanted to get the newest Fire Emblem.
but apparently it is kind of like a pokemon thing and there are two versions?
Without spoilers could anyone give their opinion on which would be the best one to get, or what the difference is if any.

The story and levels are different, you're essentially going to be buying one of two related games. It's not like Pokemon where the difference is essentially what Pokemon are available to capture.
Birthright

Conquest
>MC sides with his adoptive family, in a fantasy equivalent of generic western European nation

If you've played Fire Emblem before then go for Conquest. Otherwise go for Birthright.

One other thing to note about the 2 is that birthright has mostly new classes, which are for the most part specialists in their respective weapon types, while conquest gives mostly the old classes mercs, knights, cavs etc.

Get Birthright if you're a casual, Get Conquest if you like actual strategy games, Don't start with Revelations.

Conquest has the worse story overall but I feel Birthright had the most retarded moment.

Don't even think about playing Awakening, it's even worse.

Fair point then. From what I can tell Fates has much better JP VA work, which makes me think there's even less of an excuse for the ENG dub to be worse than Awakening. Admittedly sometimes the Fates VAs are so unfitting that it seems intentional.
