I'm about to atone for a vidya sin of mine, I'm about to play a Donkey Kong game (never did it before)
Should I start on Donkey Kong Country on the SNES?
I've heard it is the best place to start, is this true?
>>
Yes, play it.

>Is the first game a good place to start?
What the fuck do you think?
>>
>>345160385
Yes, play DKC1-3 first. I would also say try the original Donkey Kong & Donkey Kong Jr. arcade games later, if not definitely play Donkey Kong '94 for the Game Boy whenever you can (though I guess those are technically Mario games). After DKC1-3 though try the Donkey Kong Land series and definitely play Donkey Kong Country Returns & Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze, they're great. If you're into collectathons you could try Donkey Kong 64, it's a really overwhelming game in my opinion though (and that's coming from a collectathon lover). Hope you enjoy them, OP.

There's no reason to not start with 1, it's a great game.

I never played Jungle Beat, so I don't know how good it is. How is it? Also is the Gamecube version or Wii version better?
>>
1 is great and 2 is GOAT

never got into 3 to be honest family

Thanks I'll do so.

Wasnt sure of that, I actually dont know a thing about this franchise.
>>
>>345162970

it's really made for the bongos. the wii port is pretty good but there's energy to the original that just doesn't translate with standard controls
>>
would reccomend skipping the first DKC it's aged bad to be honest and the later two are far and away better

Sounds gay af senpai

>Childhood in a nutshell.

Love this franchise.
>>
>>345160385
Yes, play the first one first and then the second one if you enjoyed it. The second one is miles better, so if you enjoy the first one you'll love the second one. I don't like the third one but I know some people do.
>>
>>345163284
It's still about apes. It's heterosexual af.
>>
>>345163243
Your mom aged poorly.
>>
>>345162970
Amazing. It's what the Super Mario Galaxy team made before SMG. Also, the Gamecube version. Playing with the bongos gives a feeling that the Wiimote+Nunchuk do not. They also add a heart system in the Wii version.
>>
DKC2>DKC=DKC:TF>DKC3>DKC:R
>>
>>345160385
Play DK64 because it's the best. Ignore all the haters.

This is right.

You now have the DKC 2 map music in your mind.

Jungle Beat is one of those gimmick games that has an actually good fucking gimmick. Boss fights are awesome and going about the levels with the bongos is smooth and fun.

DKC1 is the best one

Kong's got a point, but the level design in Tropical Freeze is pretty ass.

>shitloads of fun

DKC3 doesn't get enough love. I didn't even hate Kiddy Kong like I thought I would.
>>
>>345160385
Play DKC1-3 in order to appreciate how the series evolved. Don't listen to anybody who says to skip 3 because they're just being obnoxious.

If you want, play the Donkey Kong Land series next. They're similar to the Country games but have different twists on the levels and gameplay. You don't have to play them, however, so only do it if you want to experience them.

Then, play DK64 (if you can stomach it). It's completely different from the past ones and is a collect-a-thon on steroids.

After that, play DKC: Returns and then Tropical Freeze.
>>
>>345168742

It's got a lot of problems with its level design, and especially boss design, coming off dkc2. It's still straight up good though.
>>
>>345168645
wrong
>>
SNES games are amazing, but the series went to shit after retro obtained it. The snes games seemed to flow better and weren't filled with silly gimmicks every five seconds. (exception being dk3)
