Anyone else dissapointed devs weren't more creative with this game's plot and characters? I mean I like Jensen as a character, but I'd much rather prefer they made a new protagonist, with a new storyline in the same universe.
Also, the whole Mechanical Apartheid thing is completely retarded, the situation should be reversed, like in the actual South Africa, that would make sense.

If they wanted to make it about social divide through augmentation, here's a scenario that actually works (and will probably happen IRL in like 30 years): There's an Apartheid alright, with all non-augs being unemployed and worthless, made redundant by augs and robots, and the protagonist, a "meatbag" is trying to climb the social ladder, acquiring black-market augs, getting involved in the underground anti-aug movement maybe, and so on.
Like, the whole idea of treating people who are objectively superior to normals as subhumans is just not viable, it makes no sense.

The point is that anyone can be discriminated against. In fact, if you're measurably superior people are probably going to hate you out of jealousy, in the case of augmentations I could easily see people blaming augged people for stealing their jobs just because they paid for a robot arm or CASIE implant. And black skin is a blessing and a curse. In hot climates it protects them from UV radiation, but in cold climates it makes them vitamin D deficient. And blacks are less resilient to the cold in general. It's almost like different races of humans evolved to best fit in certain climates.

Human Revolution had an interesting philosophical conflict about physical/mental superiority vs staying human. This game doesn't seem like it will.

Not really. There wouldn't be a debate IRL. In the capitalist world, economics reign supreme, and morality always loses in the long run. Augs give a massive edge with minimal repercussions, in a highly competitive world that would mean that being augmented would be a default choice for anyone who wants to get ahead in any field. Western business and military would go full-Ghost in the Shell overnight. The only places where augs would actually be discriminated are the same backwater shitholes that forbid abortion and atheism today.
