I can understand that Ross had to kill John to tie up loose ends, but was sending the goddamn U.S. Army after him really necessary?

It usually takes an army to beat an army.

best multiplayer lines comin thru.
>>

Considering how many people he killed before that and how many went down before they got him I'd say yes, it was very necessary.

>>343871809
There was one cattle rustler with a blue shirt and blonde hair that I really liked. He had a great generic cowboy look and some funny lines.
>Your HAIR makes me angry!

The multiplayer was so much damn fun in Red Dead Redemption that I think I might actually buy the sequel just to get some more. Between the shootouts with awesome environments and team v horde mission based stuff there was so much cool shit.
>>
>>343870207

If you're any decent at the game, seven people die in the scene.

It was a gift to Marson they didn't just bar the doors and burn down the house.
>>
The guy he's hunting literally BTFO one army before.
>>
>>343872461
out of the characters not in the game/revolver I liked the bearded army guy that would just do battle cries. charging in at full speed with your horse as he screams was always a good time, even if i was riding towards certain death.

I only played as the zombie characters in multiplayer so all I got as zombie moaning.
>>

To be fair John Marston was a one man army. If Ross had gone out there with a couple of guys John would have the advantage.
>>
John was like the Grim Reaper, a one man army.
>>
He's a hard man to kill.
>>
>>343870207
better safe than sorry, could call it overkill but you could freeze time ffs
>>
Considering John killed 41 American soldiers and marshals in the farm, yes.
>>
>was sending the goddamn U.S. Army after him really necessary?

Short answer: Yes
Long answer: Yeah

>not blasting the army with my lemat from the safety of my barn window
>scripted death

i could have won

then the army would come after john and his family forever.

good job champ
>>
>>343881310

i mean now that you mention it i'm sure some soldiers must've been there with horses. why'd they let his family get away? they probably knew everything john did, and even if "oh no one will believe them," why wouldn't they tie up loose ends like they were in the process of doing?

WITNESSED
>>
>>343881576
it was a show of force, they were sending a message to make themselves more feared and reassert their authority. They had to rely on a wanted criminal and that made them look weak. Gotta rectify that
>>
>>343870207

considering Marston killed approximately an army's worth of humans, yes, it was important not to underestimate him. actually reflecting on this, it makes me respect the bad guys in this game a lot more because they're really not fucking around.

/k/ autism note: using army in the generic sense, not the conventional formation composed of 3 or more corps

It's not about knowing, it's that John was a member of Dutch's gang. The whole point of what they were making you do was trying to establish that there was no place for outlaws, and that there was no running nor hiding. You chase one to fucking Mexico, for fuck's sake. The reason they made John do it was because best case scenario, he kills them all, worst case, he dies doing it, both good outcomes as far as they were concerned. John had to die so that the whole gang could be "wiped out".

Did anyone else think Jack killing Ross felt...
Empty?

It didn't feel like I avenged muh pa or anything, Jack didn't seem too emotional about it
>>
>>343883139

I believe that's the point of it. If Jack had any respect for his father, he would have moved on with his life and gotten an education. Killing an old man, even a deserving one, doesn't accomplish anything.
>>
>>343883139

I think it's supposed to feel empty. Killing Ross changed nothing. Jack still ended up in the life John wanted him to avoid, despite all his sacrifices.
>>
>>343883139
>>343883326
Nothing stops you from not killing him.

The marker is there, but you don't have to do it.

I like the headcannon that Jack did eventually get his shit together and become a writer though.
>>
How else could he have done it?
>>
>>343883326
Yeah, I almost felt bad killing him.
>>
>>343884189
Aside from it cementing Jack as a tragic figure, nigga totally deserved it.
>>
>>343883139
Implying I felt anything but joy hogtying and abusing his wife before hunting him down and shooting him 30 times in the dick.
>>
>>343884292
Not really.
He was just doing his job.
>>
>>343883139
Wow it'd almost like you understood the message of the game.

Well, he did. In GTA V you can find an easter egg of RDR : a book named Red Dead written by J.Marston, pic related.

I do believe that after killing Ross, he was able to settle down and write his book, he was able to escape the life of an outlaw
>>
>>343885370
>he actually thinks a meaningless easter egg has any relevance to the game's story

i was this autistic once

For some reason I thought the rest of the game was herding cattle, so I quit and never picked it up again. For years I though John just did stupid cow shit for the rest of his life.
>>
>>343870207
Both his swords are for monsters
>>
>>343886080
nah the end is cool

nice counterpoint to the rest of the story, showing what he has been fighting for the whole time, and then having it snatched away from him
