I fucking love terraria, started playing it when bluexephos gave it a run, and i've been re-addicted every single patch since. It's INSANE the amount of content they've added in, literally one of the best games of our generation. I've done a few servers with friends for various updates and that starts out fun.
/v/ servers can be pretty fun too, but the entertainment value usually drops off a lot after the first round when people need to stop playing for various reasons.

It's an alternative progression. It's a lot more boring and requires some decent grinding and infrastructure, especially in the case of potions, but comes with its own benefits. Like having no random meteors blighting huge burning holes into your world, or no random goblins, or no random pirates, and no random corruption, or no random mech bosses (summoned on your terms only).
But that's as far as it goes. Biome crates can get you some of the localized treasures of each biome, but they're such a massive pain in the ass to acquire in bulk that you'd be better off going down with a spelunker. Hell, Dungeon Crates aren't even guaranteed to give you locked chests.
