vive or oculus?
vr games you're hype for?
good vr games out now?

I'm hyped for affordable VR headsets
>>
Tried a vive today, holy fucking shit. Incredible experience. The mixed-reality stuff comes close to showing you what it's like, but it really does have to be experienced.

I put on a Rift yesterday, because I wasn't sure which one I'd pick up, but it's really no contest right now. The Rift is better for sitting sims and the like, but the Vive kicks its ass in every other department.

I think VR is the future, and everyone calling it a gimmick has no idea what they're talking about.

That being said, the tech isn't ready for mainstream adoption. Give it three to five years to drop to an affordable price point, and for AAA devs to start making experiences built from the ground up for the tech instead of shoehorning a 10-minute mission in SWBF or a car ride with Cidney's tits into their games.

I'd only recommend a VR headset to someone right now if they already had the cash to blow, and were 200% sold on the tech already. I'm one of those people. Maybe you are, maybe you aren't.

I got a gear vr for free.
It's amazingly good for a cheap smartphone vr setup, watching anime on a big screen theater is actually rather pleasant...
But that's about all you can do with it.
I was really looking forward to vr hentai or at least stereoscopic image viewing, but the gear is locked to the samsung vr app store which has no stereo image/video viewer and obviously no porn.
So it's just a toy for now...

It won't let you use fulldive or VaR's VR video player?
>>
>>343609498
Neither.
None.
None.

my rift should arrive tomorrow.

I got rift and not vive cause I feel like it will have more exclusives in the future, and I can wait a few months until the touch arrives. Also I live in a small two rooms apartment and don't really have the physical room for the experience the vive offers over the rift.

Anyone on here got a rift yet? favorite game/experience?

I've used virtual reality before and it's a gimmick I wouldn't want to play games having to turn my head like that. It's exactly like the wii. It's not innovation, it's just making playing games harder

going to go try psvr tomorrow, pretty hyped

As soon as you insert your phone it launches the samsung vr suite where you choose which app to launch from your library of samsung store apps.
There's a way to disable it but then you have to keep taking the phone in and out when you want to switch apps or otherwise do anything interactive since the side trackpad only works in the samsung vr suite.
I guess what I was expecting in the back of my mind was a homescreen launcher for all your regular apps, just in a vr environment.
Instead I got a vr launcher environment for a select few apps.
It's worth noting that all of the 360° vr videos you can download and watch are literally advertisements for cruise liners and shit.
So after fooling around with a pinball simulator, a shitty unity horror game (it did manage to spook me, just has godawful models and animation), and a vr web browser (you type by looking at the keys and tapping the trackpad, takes forever and once you get to the site it's in mobile view because the resolution is so tiny), I reverted to netflix.
Again, the hardware is great, it's just samsung fucking everything over with their software limitations.

I checked it out, their app store is broke and won't load 90% of the apps.
Plus there's no way to launch them since the gear locks me into the samsung vr bullshit once my phone is in there.

This.

This is the biggest misconception people on /v/ have about VR.

It's not about playing the games you're already playing, but in VR. There will always be a need for 2D screens. Most games right now will not work well in VR. It's a totally different medium. Games have to be designed for it. It's about the immersion, and experiencing the game world in a completely different way. Granted, a lot of devs right now don't understand that just yet.

Nobody's going to be playing Quake 3 in a Rift. It's just not feasible.

Instead, they'll be playing sim games, space games, puzzle games, adventure games. You notice things with a headset on you'd never have noticed without one.

>>343611831
Did you give them your osig?
>Plus there's no way to launch them since the gear locks me into the samsung vr bullshit once my phone is in there.
Not true, actually. You have to launch the app, then put the phone into the headset. It won't appear in Home.

You can also disable the GearVR service, which stops Home from loading when you put your phone in.

I have a vive i bought while drunk.

brookhaven and fallout

custom maid 3d 2, it's as close as you're going to get to fucking your waifu.
>>
>>343612068
Yes, I did the osig setup in order to get into the sideloadvr store.
The store itself has no search function and only displays 10 or so apps on the home page, so most of the apps listed on their website won't actually appear in the store.
The button on the web pages to open the app in the app store yields a "app not found" error.
If I launch the app and then put the phone in the headset, it switches to the oculus home/samsung bullshit.
If I disable that, I can no longer use the trackpad to simulate taps because non-gear apps rely on the cardboard input methods.
I ordered a bluetooth keyboard online and I'll see if that can replace the functionality once it arrives, but everything feels broken right now.

Vive. I owned an occulus bottom line is the vive has much more stable tracking and the most room for improvement.

>everyone calling it a gimmick has no idea what they're talking about.
That's the consensus. Either that or people who tried obsolete headsets like GearVR or DK1/DK2s
