So I got a new gay man PC. Just downloaded PCSX2 with SH2 and I'm really enjoying it. Using xbox360 controller.

Any other ps2 games or anything emu related I should get?

Play the PC version anon. Graphics are way better.
Found this guide for it.

>Graphics are way better.

While i'm a huge advocate of always playing the PC versions, SH2 is kinda broken on PC, if you use custom resolution some background texture become huge white blocks, so it's necessary to disable some shader effects to get the textures working again.

The lighting effects in the PS2 version are atrocious and many textures are blurrier, but at least the atmosphere is mostly intact.

Why emulate, when you'd have perfectly fine PC versions? Here's the good ol' SH PC Guide + the DL links , again:

SH1 NTSC DDL:

SH2 DDL:

SH2 torrent:

SH3 DDL:

SH4 DDL:

Mount the ISOs of 2 & 3, and then run their installers like always.
The SH1 is a PS1 rip that you gotta emulate.
The "sh2proxy" fix works as a no-cd crack as well, and is included in the pack.

In case you experience issues saving the game / not being able to edit the disp.ini, make sure the files aren't set to "Read Only", and run the game as Administrator.
If SH2 gets stuck in a black screen upon launch, close it and re-start it again.

...oh, and play in release order.

Dunno I hate SH pc versions, tried the SH3-4 ones and they were a total clusterfuck to get working especially to play with my xbox360 controller.

The fog in the PC versions is worse and doesn't have soft shadows, so all the shadows in the game look atrocious which is a pretty big deal in something as atmospheric as this. I've always hoped the PC versions would get modded to fix those issues, but I guess no one cares or it's just too difficult for some reason.

that white block thing only happens in literally two parts: in the very beginning behind the "WE COM!" tunnel, and behind the closed doors of hospital.

it's really not a huge game-breaker or anything. Plus, if you can make the game run on an integrated Intel HD Graphics chip, those problems mysteriously disappear.

>>343560395
>games don't support Xinput, because it didn't exist back then
>"clusterfuck"
that's some fucked up definitions.
Plus the games are totally playable with KB+M.

I've played SH games since the original came out, and still have the PS2 originals, but I've never really seen such huge difference in the fog quality on the PC port.

Also since when did SH have soft shadows? SH2 always used stencil shadows AFAIK; they only changed to textured ones in 3.

SH4 PC has missing hauntings in the appartment tho. Isn't that a major problem?

PS2 version for comparison's sake.

You just missed out on the PS2 era?

Suikoden 3
Dragon Quest 8
any of the Kingdom Hearts
Tenchu Wrath of Heaven
Amplitude

I have others as well but most of them either haven't aged well or are newer versions of older games (megaman, megaman x, sonic collections).

There are more Suikodens (4,5,tactics) but 3 is the best out of the lot imo.

I own far more psx games than ps2.

I just can't remember much other than FF, SH, MGS, DMC
>>
Ratchet Series is good

Deadlocked grew to be my favorite, especially with friends.
Also, FFXII

Definitely a noticeable difference. The fog looks as if it's sped up in the PC version. And the PS2 version of SH2 does have soft shadows.

got some source or pics of this?
Checked some HD emulator footage on YT, and the shadows look pretty much the same to me. I also have vague memories of the shadows impressing me on PS2 back in the days, but they were still very sharp, and you could clearly see the lower-poly shadow-caster model's blockiness on the cast shadows on walls etc.

Well ... AnEternalEnigma told me so on some twitch chat. He makes youtube SH videos.

The NeoGAF thread those fog gifs are sourced from also mentions the soft shadows. It's also referenced on the PCGamingWiki entry.

http://www.silenthillmemories.net/sh4/hauntings_en.htm

it's written *not in pc version at the bottom.

OK, that's not much to work with though.
I've seen this being claimed several times, but never seen actual footage to prove this.

I know the fog on PS2 version has higher resolution textures than on PC, + the modern GPUs have problems rendering certain extra fog overlays, but other than that, the versions don't differ dramatically when it comes to visuals. It's just much easier to run the PC versions on
