Beginner traps in vidya
I'll start
I don't remember what made the Queen Bean fight so hard for little kid me, but that was probably the most times I've fought a boss in any game.
>Trap
>Literally just a poisoned mutant form of the original character
You dun goofed OP and it's too late.
Yukiko's Shadow probably gets a lot of people who've never played an SMT or Persona game before. If you don't protect Chie's weakness or have a weakness to fire yourself then it's pretty rough. Even more so on the original version of the game where the boss had no weaknesses, the Prince stuck around throughout and healed, and getting specific moves on Personas such as Fire Wall was a pain in the ass.
And then she's followed up by Kanji's Shadow which is also a pain. Persona 4 really front-loads the difficulty, at least for people who don't have experience with the series.
>mfw getting the Advanced Mario Jump Bros Atack before Queen Bean
I think my worse boss in M&L was the rock monster before the mushroom town in the desert.

That bastard has the lowest health though

Why was it a trap?
>>343308770
>mfw didn't fall for it
>mfw didn't remove the crown and just killed her with the advanced Splash Bros. on the second playthrough
>>343308770
when you say "beginner trap" do you mean casual filter?
>>343310079
For the kids who played this when it first came out, she was what made many people stop playing. She was too hard-hitting and too fucking beefy,
>>343310253
Yes, I suppose that could go either way.
>>343308770
This actually got me when I was younger.
>>343308770
>beginner trap
Hang yourself
>>343308770
I actually didn't realize you could attack her arms when I was younger. I thought I was supposed to be doing such little damage. I still beat her though, took me a couple tries if my memory's right.
I had a hard time with the Cola Monster at the end of the woods as a kid. Also, that snowman with a wig boss in Joke's End.

I would if this site didn't keep pulling me back from the noose.
>>343309916
I had the most trouble with the soda boss. I dont know why but that boss always beat my ass.
>>343308770
>Tfw this was so hard I actually thought it was the final boss for a while
How much health does Queen Bean have again? I'd love to find out just how long it would take to beat her only using hammers.
>>343310315
That's not a trap. That's a casual filter. A trap implies that it in some way deceives or tricks a player into doing something wrong. A casual filter is just something hard that stops the progression of a player if they can't git gud.

Now I feel dumb. Thanks for telling me.

Beginner traps can also be found in the form of items or techniques that may seem great for a new player in the short term, but leave them lacking later when better or more advanced options are available. Take the drake sword from Dark Souls; in the early game it has great damage so some new players will use it, but it becomes much worse than other options in the late game due to the lack of scaling.
>>343308770
If anyone had trouble with that, it was only because you couldn't see that her arms were also targets.
Never happened to me, but I can see how you'd easily miss the cursor selection.
>>343309145
Did you not play kingdom hearts 1? Riku was a cunt to fight
>>343312595
I had actually known her arms were targets, I just never upgraded my power
I only ever upgraded my fucking HP
and never used bros attacks.
I remember for ps1 how long it took me to get them.

Is that because you had no idea you could choose other stats to upgrade?
Different versions of the game actually added a d-pad icon to illustrate this on the stat bonus screen.
