Mech game discussion thread. Loved this game, and have been trying to fill the hole with Hawken. Haven't tried M.A.V. or MechWarrior Online yet. Any recommendations?

ChromeHounds is my all time favorite mech game. Unfortunately, we're just going to have to wait until MAV is finished because nothing else really comes close.

Chromehounds was kinda crappy. It had a "campaign" game that was just a glorified tutorial.
The damn game was retarded when it came to builds. I just remember the DLC dual cannon turrets that were more accurate than sniper weapons on the smallest legs available. That and the guys that would completely incase their cockpits with armor. If the game was just in first person mode, that would have fixed that issue.
But the game ended up being shit because after release the company didn't seem bothered to try and fix anything.
Played a deal of this on my PSP. Solid game. Haven't played much else from this series.

So just like all modern tanks?

More like replacing your windshield with sheet metal.

You're right, windshields and combat are mutually exclusive.
I'd like CH with a build system more like Kerbal Space Program's.

Anon.
You are arguing that a futuristic mech-tank for some reason requires not just the pilot to physically be there (which is already retarded enough) but for the pilot to be the most vulnerable part of it.

Modern armored vehicles encase themselves in ERA and HEAT resistant plating

I wasn't making an argument, I was presenting a fact. You're the one trying to make sense of the real world analogue of video game logic for a game you haven't played.
Im sexually attracted to mechs

Right. These things were naturally armored. But the problem is there was no weapon that could really counter it. Even the anti-armor sniper weapons wouldn't really do much good.
This wasn't a "smart idea to armor the hull" so much as it was blatantly abusing a flaw in the mech construction for an advantage.
the point is that there was supposed to be a weak spot intentionally on the mech and one of the only ways to see outside the damn thing. But even a destroyed shield would prevent most damage from getting to the cockpit.
That and the ones that were running a completely armored cockpit were also running at least one of the broken cannons meant you would almost never be able to take them down.
