So, /v/, just started playing, but I'm not sure what vocation to pick.
Ive walked around with all vocations trying a bit of combat. Fighter and Strider were my favourite out of those. Ive heard, however, that mages are really fun later on in the game

Considering you can only have 1 save file this decision becomes even more important.

whats your favourite vocation, and why?
>>
>>343197559
>Considering you can only have 1 save file this decision becomes even more important.

You can literally change vocation whenever you want. Doesn't the game even implore you to change vocations to unlock more things?
>>
Wolves hunt in packs!
>>
>>343197559
you can switch vocations at will. the main thing is stat building. whatever vocation you are when you level up effects which stats increase. so if you level 50 times as strider, which gives you say 3 strength and 1 magic increase, means you'll have a very high str based character which will do good damage as any physical based attack vocation. but then if you switch to mage you'll have shit stats for magic.

a lot of min maxers will do something like play all levels as assassin even though they want to play a warrior at endgame just because assassin gives you the most strength on leveling.
>>
>>343197559
Unless you are a SUPER MIN MAX person then just switch to whatever and see what you like, you'll get a lot of stats from good gear anyway.
>>
>>343197806
also on pc you can switch out save files. people even made mods, or not sure if it was a mod exactly, but software that switches out the save automatically in case you were too stupid to drag and drop save files in and out of the right directory.

>>
>>343197559
Once you get to the Grand Soren, the big city you can change on the fly. Try out a few classes and see what you like, they made it very hard to fuck up your stats.

Recommend you at least give assassin and magic archer a try.
>>
>>343197559
I'm not sure I'd say late game magic is fun. It's visually interesting to see the big spells, but you don't get the same button mashing enjoyment you do with melee or even range vocations.

Also you can change later on with no problem, you might just have to spend a bit of time grinding vocation levels.

yeah, you have to do this to get some of the really great augments for your class. not sure if switching your class is worth it for anything else really.
>>
Mages and Sorcerers are really boring. The spells look cool but sitting your ass down for like 30 seconds just to cast it once if the enemy is feeling merciful sucks.

Hybrid Vocations are the best and are exclusive to you. There's three general builds in the game: STR, MAG/STR and pure MAG, look up stat grows aand 20% phys/magic damage augments and shape your character around that. Personally I'd just level Assassin for a few levels and then pick whatever other class piques your interest the most, since Assassin's have good offensive stat growth overall. They're also really versatile and just plain fun.
>>
>>343197806
This is true, but by level 80+ your stats don't really matter anyway. I switched to magic at around level 90 after playing nothing but strider/ranger/warrior for 90 levels and was still able to kick ass with spells once I'd maxed out the vocation.

> Ive heard, however, that mages are really fun later on in the game
Not really. Sorceror is the vocation you want for raw fun magic. Mage is a support class for pawns, or you can run with it to build your magic stat early for getting to Sorc later, but it doesn't really make much difference.

Personally I liked the bow classes best, though Mystic Knight is fine too. Having a good balance between ranged and melee combat helps a lot

I'd say Strider is probably the easiest and also the most fun starting vocation for that reason. Once you get to level 10 and reach Gran Soren you can experiment with all the different vocations without any penalty, so just try anything and see how you like it.

Just to say:
-Fighter and Warrior don't have any ranged attacks, the best you can manage is have your pawns throw you at the enemy or you just have to wait for them to get close and intercept (like pic related)
-Mages and Sorcerors obviously aren't great in melee. Sorcs have great nuking spells though.

The hybrid classes (Assassin, Magick Archer and Mystic Knight) are probably the most versatile classes, so if you want to just be able to do most things, I'd suggest them.

Just experiment and have fun.

You should switch vocations freely whenever you feel like it. Min maxing isn't important in this game considering the massive attack bonuses you get from end game weapons.
That being said, assassin was always my favorite, closely followed by magic archer and ranger. Warrior is fun to dish out massive single hits, sorcerers are fun for that as well. This probably isn't helpful considering I named over half the vocations but they're all fun and that's why I recommend playing them all.

I have a different kind of autism in that i restart RPGs a billion times until they finally "click". I have lost count of how many times i have played this game up till Gran Soren. I have been trying to play this game again and i already started twice in the span of 3 days, gonna start again maybe tomorrow...
>>
>>343200305
It's pretty easy until Bitterblack Isle, even on Hard. Bitterblack Isle is a whole new kind of assrape though.
>>
>>343197559
Fun? Fighter/Strider, actually winning/beating the full game? Magic all the way.
>>
>>343200305
It's not casual in it's features but it's not a very hard game with power creep issues, depends on what you think is casual. If your a Souls fag then you'll probably think that you should kill yourself
>>
>>343200305
It's not casual because it doesn't hold your hand and you can easily run into stronger enemies. Though it isn't that hard. Some enemies can be pretty strong the first time you encounter them, but you can pause and heal as long as you have items. BBI though tears you a new asshole.
>>
>>343200369
>>343199646
Remember that around lvl 60 gear becomes much more important than stats. For minmaxing only the first 25-35 levels really matter.
>>
>>343200668
Having stats and gear never hurt anyone.
>>
>>343200668
Not entirely true. Someone who has spent 190 levels as an Assassin will kill things faster as a melee character than someone who has spent their time hopping around and trying every vocation. It's not much, but it's not nothing.
>>
>>343200393
>>343200647
BBI isn't that hard when you realize you don't actually need to fight those two gorecyclopes, half a dozen maelstrom casting mages, hellhounds, strigoi and death in the same room.
You can just loot the chest and run.

Dragon's Dogma is one of the most obviously rushed games that had massive potential. The whole second half of the game is barebones as fuck and the map is so visibly rushed in some areas.
>>
>>343200784
>>343200882
But augments are always important! I try to grab all of them I need and just do a bit of minmaxing with MK/MA.
>>
>>343200882
>It's not much

That's why on your first playthrough you shouldn't worry about it and just try different vocations. Even picking Mage for the first 30 levels and then switching to Fighter or Assassin can be very helpful against certain magic oriented bosses. The game WANTS you to try different things out, its why its explicitly is not going into to much details about the stats.
>>
>>343200915
That's lame anon, though I can understand running when Death shows up early on.
>>
>>343199646
The only thing to keep in mind is never level up as a Mage as they have the poorest stat gain. Other than that, go crazy.
>>
So Guys, I went into this game blind and Im around lvl 35 now switching from warrior to mystic knight at lvl 25...

How do I actually play mystic knight? Most attacks are based around BLOCKING but I cant auto when having my shield up and NOBODY ever attacks me when I actually try to bait them...
>>
>>343200915
>running from fights
real heroes die 1000 times until they finally clear the room. same for the first encounter with that red dragon in the grove at low level. took me a couple hours of restarts and about 20 minute fights each time but finally pawns got rng amazing ai and won the fight for me.
>>
>>343201925
I killed that drake on low lvl, but fuck clearing rooms in BBI every time. Especially the lost city 2.0. I just don't have time for this shit.
>>
Any good mods out yet.? Every time a PC game comes out I get hyped for missing potential but I always end up disappointed.
>>
>>343201918
If you don't want to perfect block, play a mage with a shield or whack magic cannons the whole day, MK will not be very fun, but a subpar fighter.

There is a passive skill that makes perfect blocking really easy, you need to play as fighter for a while. I would also recommend playing as sorcerer.
>>
I really liked the game, the only thing bugging me was having to choose 2 generic pawns to travel with which you replace every 5 or so levels. I rather was given to option to create them myself. No mod for that?
>>
>>343202067

I know but thats gimping yourself. Even in offline mode you have to select 2 generic pawns and are forced to keep switching them out. It's annoying when you like a certain hired pawn but are hired to replace him/her because you're 10 levels higher.

Everything.
Literally everything.

Don't listen to min-max fags. The game is designed as such that you can power through it with any build and healing items. If you're good enough you don't even need to stock up on them like a fag, just have some at the ready for unfortunate situations.

After awhile you can change vocations whenever you feel like it. Maxing them all is possible before you even reach the dlc content so play around and see what you like.
