One of my favorite games of all time. I'm disappointed with the direction the series is currently going, but Nintendo is free to do what they will with their IPs and so rather than complain I'll just not purchase Color Splash just like I avoided Sticker Star. Instead of getting into that whole business though, why don't we have a comfy thread about TTYD exclusively? So I'll ask, what's your:

I've had ttyd sitting on my shelf for like four years and I haven't even touched it. Motivate me to play this game /v/

Mario is in it
>>343086338
He's also in galaxy 2 but I find myself playing that a lot more
>>343086538
You get to play as Super Gonzales too.

If you like a light hearted RPG, interesting characters and a twist on the classic mario formula, go for it. I recommend trying out 64 before TTYD as if you go back the battle system will spoil you.
>>343087002
I've finished paper mario 64 already and I skipped straight to super paper mario years ago.
>>343087172
TTYD focus more on the partners this time around, as they now have much more dialogue than before, and take place out of the mushroom kingdom so most NPCs don't even know who Mario is.
It is interesting, but some parts are clearly padded like the backtracking in some chapters. People say TTYD is the best mechanic wise as it improved on the combat from 64 but that 64 has the best world design.

>they're both garbage
So I'm on my 8th playthrough of this game and only doing the neccesary battles. Which means I'm speeding through chapters avoiding most enemies. And I've noticed how linear every chapter is. With the exception of glitzville, every environment consist of going from left to right to progress there's literally no deep in level design. Yes the combat, characters and dialogue are still far better than the first paper Mario, but compare chapters 5 of each game, Yoshis island has more options for moving around than just go to the right. You see what I'm getting at? TTYD lacks a compelling overworld.
what is it?
>>343096030
They either focused too much on the story, or they were being pressed by time constraints.
Either way, it doesn't make the game bad, but they could have made it short but sweet instead of padding it so much.
