Why in god's name was this game so based? It's the gold standard for 'franchise: the game'. Original cast and writers, on point dialogue, story that feels like it fits the setting and gameplay that is a genuine attempt to turn Ghostbusters into something mechanically satisfying and fun while making it distinct from just being a third person shooter.

Meanwhile, the 2009 game barely broke even despite selling over a million units.
>>
>>342972075

>The first few chapters just have you playing bits from the old movies and even the game rolling its eyes at it
>Last few are freaky Tim Burton meets Silent Hill shit with darker humor and actual scares and horror elements
>Real character development. The original crew makes fun of the Rookie dying at first like claiming dibs on his stuff. Final few levels they actually start caring and getting upset if you die

I know reviewers shit on it for the last sections being hard and grindy but fuck they were actually unique.

>>342973562

Development hell since Activision bought the publisher and tried to shut development down. Atari (Infogrammes) bought the rights but Activision fucked with it enough it had to launch PS3 exclusive in some regions while other versions came later.

Really Deserved better.
>>
>those fucking gargoyles

I might actually look into this

I thought it was just some random, shitty licensed video game.

But it looks like it has genuine love put into it.
Does anyone remember the King Kong game? That was another weirdly too good licensed video game
>>
>>342976007
I don't know about the last-gen cartoony version but the PS360 game is as close as we're getting to a Ghostbusters 3.
>>
>>342975859
That might actually have to do with the fact that Sony pictures owns the property and may have forced a timed exclusivity for Sony's console in certain regions.

But that's just my speculation.
>>
>>342976007
There have been a handful like the ghostbusters game and that king kong game where someone apparently really tries to put care into it even though they're aware it's shovelware.

The ghost rider game was essentially god of war reskinned as ghost rider.

I'm not going to say it was great, but the Matrix game was pretty interesting for the time. When most movie games just had you rehashing scenes from the movie, that one tried to tell a sort of bridging story between two movies. I kinda liked it.

Did disney just manage to do shovelware well?
>>
No love for Genesis Aladdin?
>>
>>342977640
disney had a lot of good licensed games during the 16 bit era, not sure what happened.
>>
The IDW Ghostbusters comics actually acknowledge the events of the game, treating it as an official GB3, which the comics then continue on form. The Rookie even cameos a few times.

>>342977640
A lot of Disney's early games were made by SEGA and Capcom (back when those companies were decent), hence why they were so good. There were a few good Disney games when Virgin took over in the 32-bit era, but after that they just became shovelware cash-ins.
>>
I remember my Aunt got me this for Christmas and it felt like that scene in The Simpson's when Bart wanted Bonestorm and Marge bought him that golf game. Then when I actually started playing it I had an absolute blast.

Still fucking love this game, completely aces the feel of the movies and making you feel like part of the team. New movie should have just been a variation of this instead of a "haha look they're all women now!!!!" retread.

Just have to remember to play it with a controller since mouse acceleration is forced on and fucks with aiming.

There was also the Nightmare Before Christmas game that was essentially DMC reskin.
>>
>>342976007
Like the others said, it's more or less Ghostbusters 3. The entire cast returns and the writing of Akyroid and Ramis is in top form. About the only flaws are a lack of Sigourney Weaver and Murray literally phoning in his performance. Everyone else puts in just as much enthusiasm as they did in the films though, and it's notable for being one of the last things Ramis did before passing.
>>
>>342972075

Is it worth $2.50?

>>342978883

Yup. People bitch about the combat being easy but I don't think it's an issue. City is great but I personally enjoyed Knight the most. I think it's a good mixture of Asylum's atmosphere with City's open world. The side missions are also top tier, especially with the Season of Infamy DLC.

Also X Men Origins managed to be several orders of magnitude better than the abortion it's based on.
>>
>>342975142

It was so utterly depressing to see this. I'm sure they'll blame the poor sales on the game on the media backlash from the movie and not on what is likely going to be completely broken mechanics and gameplay.

Whoever thought doing another isometric four-player game was the best way to go about this should be permanently banned from developing games in the future.

Holy shit, I forgot about this game. If the combat is like DMC1, then I am fucking sold. Kinda hard to judge the combat by gameplay vids tho.

Combat worked sort of like dante's styles, it was basically just changing forms (pumpkin king, normal jack with the slime whip thing, santa jack) and performing combos with them.

I don't think that game was particularly good when it comes to gameplay. I mean sure it was a blast essentially watching a third ghostbusters movie play out in front of me through the cutscenes and in-level interactions but the gameplay never felt right. It didn't help that after a certain point it devolved into a third person shooter that just happened to have gimmicky weapons instead of normal guns.

Now Luigi's Mansion, that's a ghostbuster game. It just feels right and while it'd be better if it was actually themed on the movie with the cast and all that the gameplay as solid.

Sony Pictures did it after a studio pitched it as a multiplatform game and signed it to Vivendi. But the studio that pitched the original footage never got the contract. After Vivendi got purchased, Activision tried to can it. Were told they weren't allowed then sold on the rights (Same thing happened with Brutal Legend). Atari bought the rights. Then Activision sued the companies that bought the rights because they believed they should have a cut of the game. Atari got fucked and the case was only dropped once EA got Activision's assess kicked by a judge over Brutal Legend. But the game was so overdue that they could only release multiplatform. Sony grabbed co-publishing rights in Japan and Europe on PS3 to get the game out as they had invested in the game and wanted it to be out. While other platforms had to wait for months in other regions which hurt the sales of the game. Especially since the PS3 version was liquid shit with ghastly framerate problems and a really low resolution (360 version wasn't 720P. Around 640P and the framerate held up better). It ended Terminal Reality and Atari as a major publisher on top of that.

It's one of the reasons no one touches licenced games these days because doing a huge AAA based on a license can be a massive gamble

>Perfect mechanics and gameplay out of a Frank game,

Game was great but I wouldn't say the mechanics were perfect for Punisher. My big gripe is that after you interogate someone and then you decide to kill them, you'd lose points.

In the comics Frank would NEVER let the criminal go. A choice of frank is not get info or die, its "die slow or die quick"

Plus the game makes the baffling decision to put all these unique execution scenes and lines but through the game logic these are all failures. In essence, for you to see all the game content, you purposely have to fail these interrogations which goes against what the Punisher would do in the comics.
>>
>>342993537

ESRB mandated it for an M-Rating due to their rules on "Prolonged violence". You can mod the Xbox Huge version to disable the scores, black and white and camera pullbacks though.

It's tame as fuck compared to what something like MKX does these days.
