Just finished Metro 2033 and Last Light Redux versions in pretty much one sitting

Metro 2033 Redux Solid 9/10 Regular 8.5/10

Last Light 7/10

Also Metro thread

Fuck I should probably finish those.
>>
>>342946643
They're also both in my backlog, I've heard about how you're supposed to play it on "Ranger Hardcore". Is it really much better or should I stick to normal difficulty?

If you don't have that much time or will power, I'd recommend to only play 2033, it's much better than Last Light.

Last Light had too much hand holding for my taste, you were almost never alone and always had some asshat talking your ear off while you were waiting for their ass to start the next script while 2033 gives you much more freedom.

The first time you go topside in 2033 you in Bourbon are together for about 5 minutes in a non combat section where he tells you not to fuck with demons and after that you get seperated and are alone until you get back into the Metro.

In Last Light you always had someone following you, I can't even think of a section of the top of my head where you are alone.

>>342946971
Play Ranger Hardcore, it's somewhat like STALKER where it gives you different difficulties while you should really play on Ranger otherwise you and enemies will become bullet sponges and it gets rather dull.
>>
>>342946643

>>342947083
I recently replayed Last Light and there's quite a few segments where you're alone, not sure what you're talking about.

Idk maybe because I literally finished all of 2033 and Last Light in a row it felt like I always had someone with me compared to 2033?

Really didn't like all the 'actors' following you around.

On your very first mission you have Anna following you.

After that Pavel for quiete some time.

Then Khan?

Then you are on the surface for about 1-2 hours with the Dark Kid talking about Morality once you reach the church you are alone in the catacombs though, I think that's the longest alone time you get. Horrible pacing wise though, having 2 Boss fights in a row even if you don't have to spare bullets to beat
the cave monster.

It just feels to cramped compared to 2033. Mainly because you start with 1 objective in it and it holds almost all the way through the game while in Last Light it's constantly changing.
>>
How's redux compare to the original?

Last Light, not much has changed.

2033, way more improved stealth, but also making it a lot easier than the orgininal since almost every gun, including shotguns can have a suppresor on them while in the original finding a weapon with a suppresor is quiete rare or expensive as fuck to buy, but it's still fun.

webm related easier stealth at the red line while it was a one of the hardest parts to sneak through in the original
>>
>>342947617
Well I suppose you could count the Dark One segments. Personally I always enjoyed doing things with other characters.

I was always somewhat sad when Charathers would leave me alone in 2033 because you had company so sparingly, in Last Light I actualy wished for some alone time.

redux looks worse then the original, I think at atmos in 2033 was spot on. just my opinion tho
>>
>>342949343
Not really, Redux looks way better than the Original, have you played it recnetly? It uses a lot of darkness and shadows to hide bad textures
>>
>>342947975
>improved stealth
>everyone is blind and facing a wall
>>
The original 2033 is better than the redux.
>>
So why is there no buy option on the original Metro on steam? Ended up buying redux but I wanted to buy the original one since I wasn't sure I could tun redux. Thanksfully it did run just fine.
>>
>>342950047
idk depends

The 'make pretend' stealth actualy works in comparsion to 2033 where enemies would randomly decide if you were stealthy or not.

For example, you could kill a guy in 2033 and if one person noticed the whole station would gon on caution/alert.

If you kill a guy in 2033 Redux or Last Light and someone notices it's possible to kill them and stop the others from going on caution
>>
>>342947975
Easier stealth isn't an improvement. I did Red Line stealthed without killing a soul not long a go on Ranger difficulty and it wasn't even that big of a challenge.
>>
>>342950192
defaq you talking about?

http://store.steampowered.com/app/43110/

One of the reasons I played Redux is because the original would just crash on start because of some stupid physics error
>>
>>342949849
>atmospheric fog vs jj abrams camera flare
I heard it runs faster which is great and everything but overall og looks like an original game off the back of the stalker franchise than the redux which reminds me of a modern game not inherently a bad thing but I feel it loses some unique charm.

Metro 2033 was one of my fav games but Last Light introducing spooky spiders steered me away from it.
I can handle anything but spiders in a first person game are just way too much
>>
Someone explain the air system to me. Should you even be trying to explore when you're on the outside? Had a lot of trouble the first time you get out of the tunnels since I would run out of air.

In the original the filter system is out to kill you.
In redux I was literally at max filters all the time without trying.
But yeah exploring usually leads to finding more filters.
>>
>>342951147
You can buy filter in 2033 so just stock up. You can't in last light but there's a lot of filters to pick up if you're exploring. Forget the watch alarm, only change filter when Artyom sounds like he's choking to death.
>>
>>342951570
Also note that there are a lot of 'openable' containers that have ammo and filters, however they're easy to miss because they look like just a normal box prop (especially when you're playing on ranger hardcore with no hud)
>>
>>342951147
In 2033 you can carry a set amount of filters and each of them can have anywhere up to ten minutes of time. The counter shows the combined filter time you have in minutes. Picking up a fresh filter replaces the worst filter you have. Manually changing a filter will equip the best you have.
In redux it's much more console-friendly, even with a digital watch.
>>
>that incredible feeling you get once you get into Sparta after the long journey
What is this feeling called? What games can invoke it, goddamn I love that shit.
>>
>>342951570
>>342951448
Hopefully next outside levels won't be as riiculous then. I don't know if I fucked up or something, or maybe wasted way too much time trying to explore or something but at some point I had like only one or two minutes left and looting corpses was giving me nothing. Had to get as fast as possible throught all those dogs or wathever and demon things to where Bourbon was to get some air again.
>>
>>342951257
>Le Original is Le best

Metro 2033 has too many bugs and stiff mechanics compared to Redux.

Even though Stealth is simplified in Redux it actualy works, better visuals and performance aswell
>>
I really liked playing 2033 in Ranger mode, I should do that again.
>>
>>342952012
Accomplishment.

Mainly happends in games where you follow one task throughout the whole Story that just ins't get to X but Y wasn't here try to get to new X maybe Y is still there?, tasks. You start the game with the objective to save your Station and find Miller, and it ends with your finding Miller and then he helps save your station
>>
>>342952245
Redux is indeed streamlined for the new console age, that's true.
>>
>>342952361

>>
>>342952245
This. Performance in Redux is really great.
>>
>>342952642
Redux was released on XB1 and PS4, anon. And there is more to it than just easier stealth sections.
>>
>>342952974
So? The Original Metro came out on the Xbox 360 what's your point?
>>
>>342953148

>>
>>342953283
I'm confused what you're trying to prove.
>>
>>342952642
>broken stealth mechanics

This literally translates into
>I can't gid gud

Stealth works how it should work in every stealth game.
You fuck up, you can't rehide no more, all enemies alerted because they are not blind and deaf amoebas.

This isn't Skyrim where you shoot people and enemies stop caring at some point and go back to their routine sitting down next to the chair where their dead friend sits with an arrow through their head.

It is very possible to do lethal stealth without getting spotted or ghosting the human section with zero enemy contact (the leves are literally build around the latter).
I'm tired of faggots like you who are shit a game and deem perfectly functional mechanics as broken.
>>
>broken stealth mechanics

This literally translates into
>broken stealth mechanics

If you get spotted by an enemy all enemies will instantly go on alert meaning taking out 2 enemies at a time is almost impossible

>inb4 just wait

Even if you break line of sight or hide for a long time they will magicaly know where you are

>inb4 just dont get spotted

You can't move dead bodies and if somebody happends to find one everybody knows where you are

>inb4 just be a pacifist

Enemies have no probably shooting back at you while you fire at them from the dark with your suppresed weapon that doesn't even have a muzzle flash

>inb4 suppresed weapons ez mode

The original Metro is still a very good game but I have a strong feeling you are giving it to much credit out of Nostalgia

>inb4 buzzwords
>>
>>342954767
>Even if you break line of sight or hide for a long time they will magicaly know where you are

Nope.
They will home into the last position they have seen you and since it's mostly just a collection of linear tunnels they don't even need superman vision to know where you are.
If you make a diversion with grenades you can even flank them.

>You can't move dead bodies and if somebody happends to find one everybody knows where you are
Yeah this is admittedly a shortcoming, you can however kill the lights where the body is.

>Enemies have no probably shooting back at you while you fire at them from the dark with your suppresed weapon that doesn't even have a muzzle flash
Supressed means it still generates sound.

>The original Metro is still a very good game but I have a strong feeling you are giving it to much credit out of Nostalgia
Nostalgia for a game released in 2009?
No I played both games side to side and noticed heavy downgrades in the Redux version, both AI and visually.

Also pic related is how I usually take out entire groups with nobody getting alerted.
Works with throwing knives and VSK loaded with military rounds too.

Original Metro ran like absolute shit on my PC and also had this extremely odd freezing bug where everything turned gold and started buzzing.

Anyone else experience this?

I could run it no poblems with an old core2duo and Radeon 5780 when it was released.
Just had to switch to dx9.
Nowaways even while downsampling with 780 Ti.

I can't test the AI right now, whenever I try to start the Original it crashes before the exe. even gets running.

>Supressed means it still generates sound.

Not in video game logic

The visuals are preference. Graphics haven't really improved since Crysis so you can pick between higher res textures and eviroments or fog and darkness depending which version you use .

We are of different opinions here and there is no point in arguing but i appreciate the conversation both our points have been made and it doesn't seem like we will be able to change each others minds

The outside part is one of my favorite parts of 2033. I love how ruthless it all felt. It felt more like a true survival game than all of those shitty open world procedurally generated survivalshit. The difficulty was great, the area was fun to explore and the atmosphere was god-tier.
