The great debate.
Nobody has ever claimed that Steampunk was anything other than shit so there can't really be a debate.
>great debate
everyone knows cyberpunk>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>shit>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>steampunk

this
Deckard's gun is cool as shit, too bad Blade Runner isn't a great movie
>>340825138
Came here to post this
Also the first one looks a bit unergonomic but the second looks like literal trash
>>340825279
Bad opinion
>>340825049
Top
Bottom is needlessly complicated and impractical.
>>340825049
These threads are always cyberpunk fap sessions where people shit on strawmen steampunk fanboys. Not a single steampunk game like Arcanum is ever mentioned.

WE CYBERPUNK ECHO CHAMBER NOW
>>340825049
Cyberpunk is the shit
Steampunk a shit
No one ever does cool shit with steampunk like animatronic titans, clockwork dragons or steampunk style power armour/exoskeletons. All they do is stick gears on clothes and call it a day.
>>340825049
>>340825138
We need to go wider.
Steampunk was a fad. There is no debate.
Steampunk fags are plague doctor fags now.
>>340825049
>I'll glue these gears into everything
Steampunk a shitc, SHIT!
>>340827273
But I've always been a plague doctor fagreally more of a gasmask fag in general
>>340825049
Both genres are pretty good, it's just that cyberpunk has been done better more often. Like that Kabaneri show has some great, practical steampunk designs, but just gluing gears and manifolds onto shit that doesn't need it looks like 6 years olds designing 'Devastator 9000' guns. It's just slapping on unneeded cosmetics because it adds detail to the external design. Like, you look at Deckard's gun up there, and you can figure it out pretty quick. OK, two trigger, and a small, turned down lever and ejection port. So one trigger is for the revolver, and one is for what is presumably a small rifle cartridge up top. The bottom one, on the other hand, is a mess. What doe the exterior gear on the side do? What does the clear flange off the back do? It's not a charging handle, that's the flared pin at the back of the assembly. Why are there copper pipes going to the undermounted thing? What does it do? If it's a light or laser, then why wouldn't you just use wire? If it's a gas system as the copper hints at, why would you make the gas fight gravity by venting under the barrel, and even worse dumping hot excess discharge under the barrel? It's just a mess of a design. It's slightly worse than some of the gun fuckups in Fallout 4, but only just.
The problem with steampunk is that instead of going a reasonable distance with the setting they feel the urge to go full retard. GEARS EVERYWHERE! THIS HAS TO SHOOT STEAM! THAT SHOOTS STEAM! STEAM COMES OUT OF HERE! THESE GEARS NEED TO SPIND AND SHOOT STEAM!
If you want a decent steampunk setting you make the costume choices early 1900s with a bit of tech that does some special futuristic stuff. You dont put gears everywhere for no reason.
>>340825049
is that a protractor complete with pencil on the bottom of the bottom gun?
>>340825389
No, he's right. Movie is overrated. Considerably. The art is spectacular. Has one or two memorable moments (namely the ending), but its pacing is shit and it's mostly boring.
And please, spare me your response about my attention span or ADHD shit, or how it was just 2deep4me. You can call me what you want, but you can't call Blade Runner anything more than mediocre.
>>340828645
>pacing
Opinion discarded, learn how to watch film.
>>340825049
the bottom one is literally a nerf gun
>>340828251
The thumbnail looks like a rifle, kek
>>340828765
Are you trying to act like movies can't have bad pacing? That it's not an actual complaint?
dieselpunk > NUcyberpunk > 80s/retro cyberpunk > steampunk
>>340828645
I'd have to agree, the pacing is way too slow.
I realized this when I showed the movie to a friend who hadn't seen it yet. I felt sorry and embarrassed because he was clearly bored at one point
>>340827089
This.
I like the idea of steampunk more, but I've never seen it done well.
Steampunk is fine. Bad steampunk/glue-gears-and-goggles-onto-it is terrible. There's just way more of the latter.
>>340828645
>The art is spectacular.
>Has one or two memorable moments
>namely the ending
So much this, lord, in my opinion it seems like they cut so many scenes leaving the late chapter somewhat abrupt (there's multiple endings, also). Also, I must remark that the screen play IS spectacular, given the year it came out.
>classic movie replica vs homemade nerf toy mod
Cyberpunk blows the fuck out of Steampunk but I feel like there's some bias going on here. It's not like all Steampunk is bad or that all Cyberpunk is good.
Which version of the movie to watch of you've never seen Blade Runner?
>>340825279
>Blade Runner isn't a great movie
I'll fite you irl mate
>>340826919
that's because Arcanum is the only worthwhile steampunk game ever made.
>>340828645
Agreed. Literally the only reason I like anything about Blade Runner is the world itself and the art. The characters aren't anything special, and the plot is only decent.
>>340830859
The tears in the rain guy is pretty cool
"That gun"?
More like"Dat Boi"am I right guys
>>340825138
Post war fantasy japan is underutilized.
