They will happily lay down and die to let invading armies take more territory to become a greater threat to the player. It has been this way since forever. I've seen allied factions leave an empty enemy settlement alone for 6-10 turns only to attack it once 2 full stacks arrive to defend it, lose all their men and basically volunteer their territory up to our enemies.

Total war is made by idiots, and things such as this are the only way they can make it tricky.

Chaos is incredibly annoying if they get out of their pen. They have SWARMS of heroes that are constantly sabotaging your cities and armies like mosquitoes.

And they always end their turns exactly on the edge of your armies' movement range, and run away if you get any closer. Unless they can win, of course.

I was under the impression Chaos armies couldn't reinforce one another as their balancing factor. Then two armies attacked me at once. How exactly are they supposed to be balanced then?

It's an end of the world doomtide. It's not supposed to be fucking balanced. It's there to give you a little bit of a challenge since by turn 100 you should have a solid economy and armies, so the rest of the game would be just dull steamrolling. Chaos+Norsca rape can still make things interesting though.

This is the first Total War campaign that I actually played past like turn 30 or so. I'm still fucking awful at it. I'm around turn 80 or 90 now as Empire and only have Marienberg's old territory (they somehow ended up deep in Bretonnia though), Middenheim, and parts of Talabecland and Sitrland. I do have a tight alliance with Wissenberg, though I don't know if I should confederate or not.

I've been playing Vampires since there's no Tomb Lords but I've never had any army attack a city of mine that had walls. I can't imagine how miserable defending a siege must be as a Vampire Count, since there's no ranged units whatsoever other than your Lord's spell(s).

When you play as chaos you don't start out with several doomstacks and norscan allies off the bat. The entire world is out to kill you, you are always in negative income so you are forced to constantly fight, and replenishing is a bitch. It's actually the toughest campaign until you get the ball rolling.

Well if performance is your worry you could always buy the game and refund it if it runs like shit. But I have a mid range PC and it runs at 45-60 FPS with unit sizes on large and every setting on high. Very pleased with the performance. Only goes lower in sieges.

In multi, I agree they are underwhelming but multiplayer is all about spamming broken units anyway.

What's stranger to me is how the Dwarf unit has the least armor out of all them. How do Hammerers have less armor than Greatswords and Black Orcs?

I was more refering to the fact that Hammerers are covered, head to toe, in Gromril armor but have worse armor than Greatswords wearing breeches and floppy hat.

Their low melee defense and no shield bonus already makes them fairly poor for holding the line but I understand that a unit shouldn't be able to do everything (though Greatswords do just that at the moment).

Their early game units suck balls but their midgame stuff is cheap and spammable, and terrorgheists are one of the best flying units. Use a frontline of grave guards with a few cavalry and plenty of flying units to deal with anyone trying to outrange you.

The AI is awful at playing them though since they don't understand that the lords are relatively fragile and the armies crumble without them.

It's because Hammerers don't suit the Dwarf playstyle.

They tend to have less dedicated melee units than other armies and are super vulnerable to Cav so flanking with slow infantry isn't an option unless you desparately need a melee AP presence.

Conquer Marienburg and ally Whisenland. Then punch either Bretonnia or the Vampire Counts and at some point confederate Whisenland. Once Archaon comes everybody will agree to ally/confederate with you.
You can also take over some Elector Counts, but I wouldn't conquer Nord- or Ostland since Varg and Skaeling will be really annoying.

It's only really better than Black Orcs (which have a HUGE health advantage) and Grave Guard (a cheap tier 2 equivalent with more men).

Longbeards with Great Weapons (a tier below) have 33 MD. Same with Chaos Warriors.

The Hammerers weapon damage is supposed to be their huge selling point but they die so easily against almost anything it's just not worth brining them 90% of the time.

Yeah for vamps walking far is ass because you have to raid everyone or your army dies on the way from attrition and dwarf's need forces around to stop all their enemies from sacking their shit but for the shitty Azhag chaos waste quest I just walked up there with a dooms stack full of black orcs, some artillery, and 2 giants then just sacked every settlement between points a and b for dosh to build up my provincial capitals and sustain my 3 other armies who were busy clearing out stunties.

Pretty sure I got a profit of over 150k gold from all the sacking once you take out global recruitment to replace some goblins and the upkeep.

What I was saying that the two units on it's tier with lower MD have a lot more health to compensate for it and even Tier 2 Armor Pen units are tankier than Hammerers.

What you don't get is that Dwarfs have no use for a such a slow glass cannon melee unit as their playstyle doesn't accomodate one.

Meanwhile Empire and Greenskins have damage dealers that are strict upgrades on their standard line infantry so they don't even have to make the choice.

VC and Chaos do lose a little defense from their side grades to Great Weapon equivalents but nothing close to the downgrade from Ironbreakers to Hammerers in defensive stats.

I found chaos to be easier in many respects and stupidly more difficult in others. Although it was the first time playing hard also

Easier:
>No territory means less time defending and worrying about borders and moving armies to defend
>infinite cash from raiding
>Immediate access to allies with no immediate competition who capture and hold all the territory you raze behind you
>No public order
>overally easily the strongest and most versatile units
>fast tech tree and research, solid bonuses not a lot of 'filler'
>good spells
>huge roster of units particularly nice for multiplayer (although broken as fuck in itself)

Harder:
>Progressing up the building tree takes extreme amounts of time, you spend hours waiting for pop growth
>Progression resets if the lord and army are wiped out, a huge empire army left a settlement under siege by rebel forces to finish me off once I barely won a 1v3 bullshit fight with the Vampire Counts. Puts me off doing Legendary ever

TW:W is bretty good but It kinda seems unfinished or lacking like 15-20% of the depth I wish it had. Maybe once the expansions/dlc/mods fix it and add factions / improve various aspects of the game it will be better

I beat the campaign as Mannfred (conquered the empire). I was expecting a glorious final battle between Karl Franz and my general on his dragon, but the empire army just kept retreating from my ultimate late-tier xboxhueg army, occasionaly trying to recapture cities, but overall avoiding my army. Until eventually he had only 1 tiny city left and his pathetic army died running.

I was surprised that VC has no shooting unit in in WHFB. They don't get a stone thrower? IMO they should
