Sure, multiplayer/snapmap may be mediocre at best, but holy shit this game's campaign is incredible. Easy GOTY contender for me.

There's at least one to two per level, and that's just doors. Plenty more secret areas and things of that nature.

True, but they're extremely few and far in between, provide at least some justification for what you're doing and what's going on (which is necessary for keeping things slightly coherent, I don't give a fuck what full 90s puritans say), and are evidently kept as short as possible and hated by the Doom Guy himself. Story isn't shoved down your throat and there's about three cutscenes
agreed. I haven't had this much fun with an fps in awhile. I hated the new wolfienstien, and was worried this would be the same. I'm glad they took a different direction. The music was really interesting as well, obviously they had to make a darker tone with it, but I still apperciate the balance between electronic and metal riffs. I'm playing on ultra violence right now, and most fights I get by on the skin of my teeth, even then I'm still dieing 5-10 times before completing an area. As well, the added little codex entries you can find are always a treat.
Replaying in nightmare mode and holy shit the rush of grabbing momentum with the enemies is awesome
Dodging feels incredible and the Imps are tricky little bastards. Switching between ranged combat and full commitment to regain health is just good. In Nightmare 2 or 3 hits gets you killed, though.

For christsakes their impossible to compare to eachother. Doom is from fucking 1993- its practically two different mediums when you try to compare the two games. Doom 2016 is never going to be Doom 93 or Doom II or Ultimate Doom. Its literally impossible. You can really only look at it when compared to games coming out within the last 5 to 10 years. That's what 2016 Doom should be evaluated with, other games in its genre from 2000 onward. Was it fun? Yea. Did I get 12 hours out of it? Hell yeah. Was it challenging? Mostly on higher difficulties. Is it a lot like the original Doom? God no.
