That right there. People consider this "cyberpunk" music. Fucking 80s sounding shit. That's the problem with cyberpunk, it has jack shit to do with the future now. It's just 80s shit with better technology than that decade actually had. The shit looks retarded now in retrospect. Hackers walking around with fucking keyboards on their wrists and shit? Everyone looking like they came out a fucking Whitesnake or Twisted Sister video? Generic "gangs" that are all themed like fucking old beat em up enemies? For real, this is the setting people want to see more games of? Year 2015 boys, we moved on past this grunge 80s shit, this is the time and gen for a clean aesthetic that truly is the vision of the future. 80s culture is NOT futuristic, sorry, it just isn't, not anymore than fucking 1950s shit is futuristic, unless you want a game with people in a suburban neighborhood dancing at the sock hop and hacking a pc using a bigass box attached to their fucking waist.

Oh, and cities where it's always raining and always night, and full of neon signs and shit? EDGY as fuck.

Epic!
You're actually wrong. Cyberpunk happens to reflect the worries of the society that creates it. Most of it started in the 80s, and so the fundamental look of it featured punk rockers, bright neon, foreign cultures intruding on the west, and a destructive society which loses most of it's natural wealth. Frequently it also has an annihilation story. Drug abuse is also common.
All worries from the 80s.
If you look at Deus Ex, most of that changes. It still has a society which loses the natural wealth. However, corporate greed plays into it much more.
Cyberpunk is a form of science fiction. It allows the author to express opinions in a way that fiction in a contemporary period cannot. Because in a contemporary period, fiction is subject to much more scrutiny. This is why Star Trek was so successful in the 60s. No one would have let a racially diverse cast be portrayed in that time period, unless it were 300 years in the future. "Oh yeah, we've solved racism. It's a footnote in humanity's past." You could believe that 300 years from now.

Likewise, with cyberpunk, you have a believable notion that humanity greatly endangers itself, or destroys it's planet, just to keep living a lifestyle that's not sustainable. In Deus Ex, you throw in some transhumanism as well. We're on the cusp of the singularity, where we begin to question what humanity is. What makes us people. How much you can take away before you lose yourself. We also begin to explore some of the discrimination that may happen in the future. How modified and unmodified humans will interact. Who becomes the second class citizen, and who acts out in rage against the other.

Cyberpunk is an important fictional genre in our time, and you're a fucking moron if you think it's "le edge" or not futuristic, or not relevant.

It's an aesthetic. It doesn't matter if it's not 1-1 how a future world would look from our time period.

Go play DE:HR if you want a modernised cyberpunk aesthetic.

Is this an original post by the CYBERPUNK RAINY NIGHT EDGY SHIT or is this pasta too?

I mean, its a genre heavily assosiated with the 80s, what with being popularized around that time and having lots of neon and shit

not irrational that the music tied to it would include 80s style production with chugging synth basslines and lo fi drums and all that

Retrofuturistic stuff that is reminiscent of 80's sci-fi isn't necessarily cyberpunk. Lot's of cyberpunk came out of that era but still

any graphic designers/artists wanna fill me in on how you go about making one of these elaborately detailed future city scape pictures?

That song is shit, and of course you are right that anything too 80s feeling isn't true cyberpunk, just retro wankery. But this:

>Oh, and cities where it's always raining and always night, and full of neon signs and shit? EDGY as fuck.

is fucking retarded, there is nothing wrong with that. Do you know what cyberpunk is supposed to be about? High tech, low life. Creating a dark, putrid city full of advertisements is still perfect for cyberpunk, because that's still something most of us find revolting about the future of globalization.
