I really wish that game was a little better. I loved how they'd just throw tons of shit at you and you could do whatever you wanted.
Kill NPC enemeis to earn a little bit of extra cash without fighting players, slot machines to get subweapons, boss fights that would fuck things up and give your team tons of points if you defeated them, randomly getting forced into a 1v1 cage match, bounty hunting the player in 1st place, triggering map changes, disasters that would force all the players into smaller areas so they couldn't avoid each other. You had so, so much freedom but everyone would just infinite combo each other and it was super lame.

I miss playing Death Ball and 16-man free-for-alls.

Wasn't Big Bull pretty cheap in Death Ball? If I recall correctly, his super move is uninterruptible.
Death Ball was great, especially when you're with friends and go up against another competent team. I think the crazy Battle Royale's were best though. It's a shame the balance was so bad and the lag was pretty painful. I'm also kind of sad that Raiden didn't make it since I believe MGR was coming out around the same time. He woulda been perfect.

Yeah that was crazy, especially considering the JP game had eng subs already. When I went to pick it up, no one knew what this game even was or why it was priced at $30 even though it was a brand new game.

I definitely remember Bayo being pretty broken in 1v1. I think Bayo and Douglas were the worst to fight solo. That being said, many characters had ugly dirt. Ai Rin had her air KW and an infinite, Oinki had infinites and block infinites, Zero had dirty stuff with his KWH doing OTGs, etc.
It was good stuff though, and doesn't mean too much in the end with a dozen people fighting around you, giant Krakens, and even Cthulhu running rampant. I'd pay full price for a sequel, especially one with split screen options.
