It's still extremely overhyped shit.
I called all of this already after the first reveal trailers, and the final game did not change my view one bit.

Bought it a couple days ago and playing through the single player after work (I only get an hour or so of vidya a night). It's really fun, though my cheapass 600 Ti pretty much shits itself on anything except the lowest graphics settings. Also it seems almost stupidly easy on Hurt Me Plenty compared to what I remember from Doom 2 back in the day.

Haven't tried the Multiplayer. I'm hoping I won't regret $60.

Some parts of the design are off, like how they trap you in a room and force you to clear out all the enemies to continue.
Multiplayer is weak
Snapmap should give you more control over what's in the rooms

but other than those primary complaints it's very good for a modern shooter, 8/10 to be honest.

It's a fucking awesome game and I really like it. It's basically the best of both worlds to me, they modernized doom without discarding what made doom great. They took the good stuff and improved it, and they dropped stuff that was no longer relevant. It's a shining example of what a reboot should be.

It's a modern game retard, stop expecting everyone to want to play your outdated shit.

Besides, it's not even like the game wasn't true to the spirit of Doom. The game offers lots of backstory and exposition, sure, but for those of us who don't give a shit and just want to rip and tear? Doomguy clearly doesn't give a shit either, and 90% of the ""lore"" is in the optional codex entries.

If what you're crying about is the glory kills, you probably haven't even played the game. It's a mechanic I thought would ruin the game but once I played it I realized how fun it was. The animations are short and fast, they don't stop the action. If you want your health back, you don't hide behind a chest high wall or run away and look for a health pack, you fucking TAKE it back from the demons who hurt you. Same for ammo and later, armor.

And no, the guns don't "suck", even unupgraded, I'd really love to know why you think this because myself and everyone review I've read has thought the gunplay was phenomenal, as is the usual for Id.

Meh. In the original Doom, the enemies came in packs but were very slow and didn't give you that much of a beating. In D44M, it's pretty much the opposite. There aren't that much enemies but they can kill you pretty quickly. It's not a bad thing. Just different.

It's great. Difficulty is there, ammo conservation and weapon diversity are great, aesthetics are perfect, pacing is good.

So your argument against the new Doom boils down to

Ignoring the fact that "atmospheric" means nothing at all, it's pretty hard to measure how challenging a game is because that's subjective.

As a whole, I'd say that the new Doom can be pretty damn challenging on the highest difficulty (Ultra-Nightmare). However, I think you're right in saying that the older Doom is more challenging overall.

That being said, that doesn't mean Doom 2016 isn't worth playing. Sure it's not as hard but it's still difficult enough if you pick the higher difficulties and challenge yourself. To me, games should be fun foremost, challenge exists to help that fun happen. And both Doom and Doom 2016 are really fun games in their own ways.

I can go more in depth about why I thought the mechanics and gunplay were good if you want. You already played the game though so you probably have your own opinions.

You know, I wish this could be true, but it just isn't anymore. Modern audiences expect some level of cinematics, and DOOM 4 is about as unobtrusive about it as they come these days.

Because it's a superb Doom game, and just recently got a good PC port, in form of the Doom 64 EX.

Most people literally never got to play it, as it was N64 exclusive. Some who might've had the chance also ignored it, thinking it was just another console-port of Doom 1.

In reality, it's a direct sequel to Doom 2, and has one of the best endings of the series. It also uses the PSX Doom's sounds and music.

You know you can turn that off, right? Literally all of it, the glow, the compass, objectives, you can even turn off health/armor/ammo display. Personally I played with no glow for staggering and it was more enjoyable. You had to watch the enemy's movements and see if they were acting dazed rather than just looking for the glowing color.

Also the hardest difficulty has no checkpoints. As in you die and you restart the game. The rest of your post was refuted by at least three other anons so I'm not even going to bother.

Personally I wish MP was a little more fleshed and did away with demon spawns and weapon loadouts, as well as increase movement speed for a better arena shooter experience. The only game mode I've really had any lasting amounts of fun is freeze tag and at that I literally only play MP for more armor customization options.

If you guys wanna beat it, save it then go to my downloads and edit it, select the player 1 on spawn node, hit G and drag to the player iterator on the left side of the room, add modifier, set damage to 1000% or 2000% or whatever you want then playtest it, don't save it though.

Also check out Avatar of Sin, should be version 1.6 or 1.7 now, unsure. It's beastly, makes my map look fucking mediocre as hell, and feels like a Doom 2 map. Also it's even harder than my map, but you do get 3 lives instead of 1 to try to beat it. Some guy off /vg/ has been twiddling with it all week and it's turned out absolutely fantastic.

On Given it would give the modifier to the specific player who activated it instead of all team members.
A simple fix, I just need to set a true false statement that applies to the whole team and it should be fixed.

I thought the cinematic kills would have brought down the game but it ended up being fun. Brings the difficulty down a bit but rewarding the finishers with small health packs gave me a reason to take more risks. The danger of trying to rip apart an imp for health while a revenant is chasing your ass gives you a nice feeling.
