I've been wondering the same recently. The game is a solid RPG but I don't understand how these same people can discuss the same game so god damn often. There isn't enough content to warrant such a level of discussion, and for all people talk about replayability, the world is designed to set you on only a handful of viable paths to your objective. Much in the same way Fallout 4 tries to gate the player into going to Sanctuary then meeting Preston and getting the power armor, New Vegas tries to gate the player into traveling south and passing through Nipton and then turning back up north through Novac. The biggest difference is that 4 stops trying to force the player down a specific route much earlier. It's certainly possible to take alternate routes to New Vegas but they're far less incentivised.
NV is a good game but it's hardly worth so many threads.

I get what you're saying anon but aside from advertisement I didn't once feel like I was playing an RPG. It was quite honestly just an open world shooter with customizaton, perks and dungeons. And truth be told aside from 2-3 fleshed out quests I felt the same about FO3. Even with the skill system it didn't feel like an RPG because you were just putting points into irrelevant shit that you were inevitably going to max out, with barely any variety, dialogue was just as bland even without the wheel and convo checks had the same % based change you could just re-load.
Sure taking the old format and putting it in a 3D game would be great but bethesda isn't capable of that, so at least make a fun shooter while you're at it. 4 is a pretty fun shooter and like I already stated in this thread I fucking hated 3.

There is a difference on what consists a good game and what makes a game sell
FO4 and NV are perfect examples of this, where NV is a really good game (Not for me, i can't get past the clunky combat, and i've only played it once), but due to how it is made, it has a level of complexity (For the casuals) that detracts most people from buying it
FO4 is a game that SELLS, it has a shallow level of everything the casual audience likes (Base building, post-apocalyptic setting, robots, laser guns, wacky things happening, wacky weapons) with no real thought behind it, wich explains why my automatic sub-machine gun is dealing 1/18 of the damage i can deal with a single shot of this low caliber handgun
So, if you were a game developer would you go for a game that sells or for a good game that land on a niche genre?

There's really little reason to not contract out a new game to someone else. the system used for New Vegas was, on paper, a pretty good one. Experienced dev team gets full access to an easy to use engine and thousands of premade assets. A lot of the work is already taken care of there, allowing for the game to be made with less money and the chance to make far more than what was put into it.
Besides, Obsidian's said that they'd love to make more Fallouts. I personally like the idea of alternating games between east and west coast.
