I love Crash 3 and Spyro 3. Out of Crash 2 and 3, which do you prefer? I've always preferred 3 but a lot of people like 2 more and I didn't quite get that feel.

From the little I know about the quake "story", quake 1 was basically the initial invasion, and then by 2-4 they had captured enough humans to convert into shock troops/fodder. Note how most of the bosses are still non-human.
