Philosophical question for you, /v/.
Can you be inherently bad at RTS games or is it just a lot of practice?
I decided to pick up WC3 again to do the campaign, and I've been having a lot of fun. I know it's a dead game, but I enjoy it a lot. Going through the campaign is ok in itself, I ain't having too much trouble, but as soon as I try playing CPUs in a Local Game I get my ass kicked on easy.
I seem to be having trouble with multitasking, can't focus on my base and attack at the same time.

Back in 2003-2004 this was my problem as well and no matter how much I played I could never improve.
I wouldn't bother.

Did spacebattles ever work out? Every time I joined the network couldn't handle the ships.
I wanna go to space.
Homeworld Remastered sucks, because they took out formations and ballistics simulation. The next Homeworld game looks like a poor man's Forged Alliance.
So. I noticed there are a million space 4x games out. Which one doesn't suck? I'm looking for

It's pretty old but I do recommend Imperium Galactica 2.
You can do some neat diplomatic and spy shenanigans, you get to go planetside, there's campaigns as well as skirmishes and the three main races (plus the other, minor ones) are all unique.
Plus the music is fucking great.
If you are willing to forgive it its age, you will have a great time with it.

Well, from what I remember, Crisi Core made him out to be a nice dude, but then he had a mental breakdown in the middle of an existential crisis.
"Mario" only became a dirty word when Nintendo started milking the NSMB style to death on Miyamoto's insistence.
I mean, it's not like NSMBU/Luigi U is bad or anything. The games still work great on a functional level and I'd even say they're still fun, par for the course of Mario, but the actual idea, the presentation...It's a little generic. Kind of boring and played out.
The real issue is that it's not confined to the NSMB series of games. That sort of mindset for how Mario should be has leaked over into the overall...

>that genericized whitewashed feel that most modern Mario games have
You hit the nail on the head. Everything started to go wrong during the Wii generation. Somehow everything feels so clean and safe and... boring.
In terms of visuals, I'll agree that NSMB looks generic. This is probably because it uses the 3D Mario style which looks boring when compressed to 2D.
However no one has been able to properly explain to me what exactly the "genericized whitewashed feel" is in 3D World and 3D Land. It's fucking 3D Mario. There is objectively no difference to the Galaxy games which were the first Mario games that were nearly identical to promotional artworks. I think you people are just becoming too adult and cynical for Mario.
Mario just feels like there isn't any stakes anymore

I remember asking a bunch of people a few years ago if it would ever be possible to play FF12 in 60 fps. I got a lot of "the game is hard coded to play 30 fps so no" and "stop pretending like you how know emulators work, this is impossible" answers.
Well, guess what, faggots
https://dolphin-emu.org/blog/2015/02/07/game-modification-60-fps-hacks/
Now all we need is the PCSX2 emulator team to stop being shit and the dream is real
>>320855463
few years ago, there were no emulators capable of such feats, and it isn't exactly the easiest thing to trick games with hard-coded fps locks to run at another speed.
That being said, this stuff ain't new anymore. PPSSPP already allows running some games with 20fps lock at 30 or even 60 via cheats (very popular with MGS:PO and PW), and there's N64 emus that allow reducing of the typical in-game lag with simulated overclocking of the system's CPU.
All things said and done, PS2's...

>>320855463
nothing new, some other emus can do that as well. Changing the framerate often tends to break things in the games though, so it's not an universal "fix" for every game.
>>320856126
But Zodiac Job System introduced a "turbo mode" which made the game simulate at a much faster speed while maintaining 30 fps. This proves that the game understands delta time and that the frames are independent from the logic. This shit should be really easy to implement
