I also like making maps and taking notes.
This is the proper way to play RPGs and makes it more of a whole engaging experience than just a game of "stare at the screen and push the buttons".

That's what I mean. If it still looks a little fucky with a 2D image captured of an actors face composited over a 3D model, then making a strictly 3D model have truly lifelike visuals is pretty far off.
