This is all supposition, but I'm going to spoiler it in case I'm right and it contains potential spoilers.All of the religious imagery(which represents mankind's unconscious deification of Clark, among other things) is going to see its payoff on his next appearance. Since Superman's not a god, "worship" doesn't benefit him at all. The same is not going to hold true for Darkseid - a literal god. He's going to be involved in his resurrection somehow and use him, possibly possesing him.It's going to be revealed that the real reason the Kryptonians abandoned space exploration was out of fear of what's waiting "out there in the dark, among the stars," Darkseid's going to be presented as being a sort of "mental infection" that corrupts minds through simple knowledge of his existence. The Kryptonians killed off their own colonies, much like one would amputate an infected limb, and promoted a false, revisionist history to, in effect, "quarantine" the infection that Darkseid represents.Darkseid will be interested in Earth for two reasons - its active core and its burgeoning metahuman population, a genetic strain that is a remnant of the ancient Kryptonian who survived the crash of the scout ship mingling with Earth's native population.
