As someone who loved the book, I have really mixed feelings about this movie. It manages to retain, and even improve upon, the humor - but it makes really confusing narrative choices. Puck's character is the pivotal one in the novel who finally solves the whole mystery in a conversation with Doc, but in the movie Puck has a single non-expository line, so it's literally impossible to make sense of the narrative via the contents of the film alone. Maybe there'll be a directors cut that solves the issue, but then again it's Pynchon lite, so the plot doesn't really matter anyway

It's definitely possible to figure out the narrative, albeit difficult, but that was almost certainly by design.

You're not seeing the forest for the trees. The minute plot points are not what's important and the movie succeeded brilliantly in translating the main themes of the novel.
