Can people finally just admit that Superman is cancer on any other medium besides comics? He's too overpowered and does not translate well to film and video games.

The only thing they can do is lolkryptonite every film or make enemies even stronger than him which then causes all other sorts of mess and turns it into Dragonball where they start destroying planets with their powers.

JLU Superman is really good, just like everything in the DCAU.
Dealing with the mistrust of the people, the government, all while Lex tries to bait him is all pretty good. The strain it puts on his relationships when he's not the golden boy for the first time. Also, you can't help but love episodes like For the Man who has Everything, and that one where he goes to the future.

If it's just a slugfest, yeah, having one guy be far stronger than anyone else is going to be boring. If it's a nuanced portrayal of his character along with facing down fairly threatening opponents, it can be good.

Nigger it's not hard to understand. Theaters take about 50% of ticket sales. Forgien markets take more and studio's get about 25% depending on the place or sometimes don't get shit. As of right now domestic is at 261m which means the studios now have 130m and for forgien it just depends on actual percentage they are willing to give to the studios but for hypothetical purposes we will say 25% and forgien is at 421m right now, so that is 105m for studios. So for 682m worldwide they only made 235m back. So yes it'll need 900-1b to at least break even and at the rate its moving it'll be lucky to get 850m

*tips fedora while stepping out of the shadows*

The pitiful peons at Marvel have underestimated the power of DC one time too many. The "Marvel Cinematic Universe". Huh. A shoddily shot, messily put together series of soulless and artless wastes of celluloid designed to appeal to the base intellects of moronic manchildren still dreaming of becoming powerful as they waste their lives away masturbating to images of Black Widow.

Only a fool and a weakling of mind could gain satisfaction from watching poorly animated CGI trade weightless and impactless punches while trading quips a severely mentally retarded Thai ladyboy would find beneath him/her.

DC understand cinéma. They understand kino. DC know how to build shade and light in a performance, how to engage the minds of true enlightened souls. DC have redefined not just superhero films, but the entire film industry itself.

Mentally challenged Marvel fanboys can only begin to grasp the tectonic shift in filmmaking that has been unleashed. Critics and reviewers fail to recognize a movie far ahead of its time once again, crying on their blogs about lack of snark and quipping - failing to recognize a literal masterpiece as it unfolds before them.

The public have responded. The entire filmmaking industry has been shaken to its core. DC have changed the game utterly - a new landscape is carved, a beauty is born, a God walks among men.

*teleports away*

Why are you people so surprised? Comics in general have dwindled in popularity and Marvel was able to rake in so much money, regardless of the character starring the film, because they spent years building up a universe so that people will watch the movies irregardless of what it is now.

The "epic" problematic Evans, isn't it? I imagine you little shit laughing so hard as you click it that you drop your Doritos on the floor, but it's ok, your mother will clean it up in the morning. Oh, that's right. Did I fail to mention? You live with your mother. You are a fat fucking fuckup, she's probably so sick of you already. So sick of having to do everything for you all goddamn day, every day, for a grown man who spends all his time on 4chan posting about how the first capekinography in history completely flew over your head. Just imagine this. She had you, and then she thought you were gonna be a scientist or an astronaut or something grand, and then you became a NEET. A pathetic Marveldrone NEET. She probably cries herself to sleep everyday thinking about how bad it is and how she wishes she could just disappear. She can't even try to talk with you because all you say is "DKEKS BTFO PRETENTIOUS TRASH." You've become a parody of your own self. And that's all you are. There's no way theatres take such a big cut. Studios have them by the balls. The reason they charge such ludicrous amounts for food because they make practically nothing off of showing you the movie. Theatres are more in the food business and happen to show movies.
>>
>>67823116
Except theaters do take that big of a cut. Since films last longer in theaters now they want to be compensated. Studios need theaters just as much as theaters need films. Being much more of a DC fan than a Marvel fan, this is fucking pathetic.

A movie with Batman and Superman should have decimated any Marvel movies at the box office.

Instead fucking Tony Stark in his third outing did better. Batman and Superman barely did better than fucking Deadpool.

Of course Spider-man is a fav Marvel character and he got fucked up twice at Sony. X-men has had a mess of a time at Fox. Meanwhile DC's parent company Warners has no clue what to do with the characters it owns completely and keeps making dumb movies with its movies instead of just giving us straight up films of the superhero comics characters people love. They of course will keep making tons of money on merch, but the movies themselves suck balls. (Not that DC Comics comics themselves and all the reboots have been that great either.)

Iron Man 3 was a bit of a mess, mushing Extremis and Mandarin into one story, with a bonus fake Mandarin fake out for some reason.

Yet it was still more faithful to the characters than anything DC has done in years.

Hell, Nolan mushed Dark Knight Returns and Knightfall and No Man's Land into one movie for an even bigger mess. Bane was both a lackey to a woman again and also mushed together with the leader of the Mutants.

At least IM3 didn't throw a character under the bus for a fakeout twist. Well, when you realize Guy Pierce was the real Mandarin and not magical Trevor. Nolan made Bane less of a character by making Talia the mastermind.

Plus, to be fair, adapting Mandarin to a character that wasn't some old racist Fu Manchu cliche was a bit of a chore. While Bane's whitewashing and character changes made no sense.

True. I should be glad that a good movie based on lesser known characters does awesome.

Yet as a DC fan of Batman and Superman, I am upset.

Hell, if anything Warners should have seen GotG doing well and dug through their back bins.

A Booster and Beetle movie would have been a fun superhero romp.

I guess Suicide Squad could have been due to GotG, but they still felt the need to shove Joker and Harley Quinn into it. Yes. I know Harley is in the New52, but that reboot was shit. Hell, they had to reboot her again after it with Amanda Conner upgrading her from a meth head Juggalo into a mere drunken rollergirl.

Warners has zero faith in characters aside from Batman and Joker.

> “What is really going to matter, I believe, is what the audience says,” Cavill told Yahoo Movies UK, “because they’re the ones who are buying tickets.”

> Amy Adams, who plays Lois Lane, said that viewers should go into the movie without letting others’ opinions cloud their experience.
> “I know that Zack doesn’t make the movies — or none of us are making the movies — for the critics,” she said, adding that fan responses so far have been positive and articulating that they’re “making the films for them.”

> “I don’t know how else to do it 100%, so it is what it is,” said Snyder.

They do and they dont. Its weird. If you have a rabid enough fan base it doesnt matter (ie twilight, 50 shades, etc). Im guessing alot of it has to do with word of mouth since a good number of people i spoke with that saw it thought it wasnt that great, and unless youre a hardcore fan thatll be enough to make most people stay away.

Life just isn't fair. DC should be having Marvel's success. Marvel should be failing. All DC has is memes now.

>> revolutionary

That's not how you spell ass backwards.

Thinking Batman and Superman need to become Watchmen is fucking retarded.

That's not DC Comics. That's more Wildstorm or Vertigo.

There's a place for films like Watchmen or Sandman or The Authority. (Not that Snyder did that great with Watchmen or a two hour film is ideal for that dense story.)

A Batman and Superman and Justice League movie is not that place.

I didn't need these feels today namefag.

Man, I wish DC would do some live-action stuff with their lesser known properties. Suicide Squad is a start I guess, though the MOM'S shit doesn't give me any hope.
>>
>>67825825
Suicide Squad will have a limited success and small profit. Its a niche product with some good factors like novelty, not much caring about shared universe and Affleck going for it and some bad factors like damaged (pun intended) brand reputation, niche demographic and, most importantly, severe mood dissonance which will likely happen because of Leto going full retard along with Warner making last minute changes to script to make it more lighthearted
>>
>>67815383

Superman is great, writing him like Batman is not, Snyder is a hack
>>
>>67825988
>DC should be having marvel's success

Why? Marvel took all the risks with Iron Man. They had to build their own movie brand. They picked RDJ and then made films with less known comic book characters. DC whored out Batman. Marvel is now reaping the rewards of its risks. DC is playing catch up. Rightfully so. You know one of the Thor movies made almost as much as Man of Steel. Fucking Superman. Everyone knows Superman and DC barely beat some goofy god with a hammer. They only have themselves to blame tbqh.
>>
>>67825988
You lost the race years ago, DCuck. Warner was sitting on its ass while Disney made a brilliant and lucrative plan for genre takeover and executed it flawelessly. How does it feel knowing that children today will care more about Doctor Strange and Ant Man than Superman and Batman?
>>
>>67826340
It's even sadder when you realize GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY made more than a Superman movie.

Fucking Guardians of the Galaxy, who the fuck even knew these Z-listers? WB are literally retarded for not being able to get their cinematic universe off the ground when they have some of the most iconic superheroes available.

Spider-Man will be a part of MCU, haven't you heard? His standalone movies will be done by Sony with creative assistance from Disney. Win-win for both companies.

If Fox execs were not braindead they would make the same deal about X-Men, Deadpool and Fantastic Four. But no, those fucks preferred to destroy F4 franchise along with Doom forever rather than cooperate and make more money from such cooperation.
>>
>>67826954

X-Men and Memepool are doing fine on their own. You don't need to mix everything.

In fact keeping the avengers and x-men separate is probably the reason why they work so well in film.
>>
>>67827079
Maybe. Or maybe such cameos would add new opportunities and avenues of growth creatively for both companies. We'll never know. Fantastic 4 desperately needed such cooperation because it is very much connected to other parts of Marvel unlike X-Men and fits tone of MCU perfectly.

Another cheap proxy yesman that bends down to the corporate-crafted consensus.
Surely the future looks promising for Marvel flicks.

>This has been the most rigorous intellectual exercise I’ve had in my writing life. For “Batman v Superman,” I wanted to really dig into everything from ideas about American power to the structure of revenge tragedies to the huge canon of DC Comics to Amazon mythology. Simple.

Stop having such stupidly huge budgets.

I'm happy to get better more mature films that don't make as much money, marvel crap out a new movie every fucking year, often more than one. Why would I want even more of that style?. But "making money" is relative to how much you spend and BvS had way too large of a budget.

Empty words.

Get fucking real, a superhero movie is a superhero movie. And the sad thing is you honestly believe that it is 'true cinema'. It's no more valid than a Marvel film. What they are is great entertainment.

Do yourself a favour and buy a Mubi subscription.

>Yet it was still more faithful to the characters than anything DC has done in years.

It really wasn't. The MCU movies aren't faithful to the comics. People say this because they never really cared for the characters before the movies but it ins't the truth.

That's the problem here. Nobody gave a crap about Iron Man before the movies so they see RDJ charisma and that's enough despite RDJ being the exact opposite of what Iron Man used to be like.
But in the case of the DC's movies everybody has their own version of Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman and, heck, even Aquaman. So they're much more picky about these characters portrayals.

Movie is all over the place, drags, didn't satisfy neither the casuals nor the comics fans and is completely humorless.

That's not how you make capeshit.

This is a Snyderesque wankfest with reader's digest-tier symbolism literally shoved down the audience throat every 5 minutes, more gratuitous explosions than Bayformers, plot holes everywhere, bidimensional characters, pacing issues up the wazoo and it tries so hard to be brooding/gritty it comes off as a self-parody at times, even though it takes itself way too seriously.

It most definitely isn't 29% bad or meme-tier bad or whatever but it isn't something I'd want to sit through again for sure.
