Sony BTFO again
As bad as it did in america it will do worse overseas. There's less nostalgic affection for the original and comedies don't travel well, not that it would make much difference in this movie; queefs and slime jokes I imagine are unfunny in all nations.
>"We are ecstatic with this opening. We have successfully restarted an important brand," Josh Greenstein, president of worldwide marketing and distribution, told The Hollywood Reporter.
So is that pronounced GreenSTEEN or GreenSTEYN?
Gotta disagree, Ghostbusters is definitely considered a classic here (UK). The reboot will do badly here, but not because we don't like Ghostbusters, we just don't have such a problem with SJW virtue signalling here.
It's a problem, but nothing like as bad as in the states, so fewer people will be guilted into seeing this and pretending its good.
I think warcraft made 50-60 mill opening weekend worldwide. It's hard to compare because it had a staggered international release.
What's funny is warcraft got terrible reviews amoung critics but good reviews amoung viewers while getting praised by most warcraft fans. The consensus on ghostbusters is that it is a poor remake that audiences didn't like but critics and feminists are not allowing it to fail because it supports their political agenda.
It's right towards the beginning when they're deciding to investigate the haunting from the opening credits. They're listening to a tape and it's all silence when they hear a fart. Then one of them goes something like "Is it better that it came from the front"
Warcraft was less than Ghostbusters for opening weekend, but they had China to save the day.
Also there's all that conspiracy that the other studios wanted Warcraft to fail, because it was produced by now Chinese owned Legendary Pictures, and they were trying to do business differently.
>is this movie 2016's John Carter? Although I liked JC desu
Most people who did watch it, agree that John Carter was a good film. But the advertising sucked so no one was interested.
Besides both being flops, they aren't really comparable. John Carter flopped because it had a confusing title, it was an adaptation of a novel that normies had never heard of and the marketing campaign was really shitty. Ghostbusters is a remake of a movie that everyone knows and it has had a massive marketing campaign but it's flopping because the marketing campaign pretty much said all old fans of the franchise are vile misogynists.
But there's totally going to be a sequel. Sony said so, and they wouldn't just lie.
It'd be nice if we could get a petition for them not to do it with more than 40 million signatures.
>yfw they'll make a trilogy
>yfw people born in the 00's and after will ike them better
Worse than that, the cast went on Kimmel, along with Murray, Aykroyd, and Hudson and insulted the haters.
They forced Bill Murray into their shitty movie and then forced him to be apart of their damage control.
>That's not even counting the non stop advertising during the NBA finals and paying Kobe to play dressup.
WTF was that about? That was like the most wasted advert $$$ ever.
And they tried to hide the fact that it was 4 chicks by paying NBA players to pretend to be ghostbusters in all of the ads
that was the part that actually made me mad. they just invented these misogynist boogeymen to take the attention off of how shit the trailer was, then had the balls to go on talk shows and just shit on people who like 'Ghostbusters'
I think they broke even with ASM2, but regardless their HQ in Japan was fucking pissed that Sony Pictures couldn't turn a profit on Spider Man of all things. After the emails, ASM failure, and the outrageous asking price they pitched to Marvel, HQ had enough and told them to take whatever number/terms Marvel gave them. Because they needed money and had zero leverage at that point. Which frankly thank god, I'm glad he's back at Marvel. In Ghostbusters case it's a sadder situation because I can't see the franchise getting new life unless it gets a tv show and some new management
How does Sony still exist as a movie studio?
There's no way they can have disaster after disaster and still compete with money machines like Disney, Universal. I would guess even WB, Paramount, and Fox are in better shape.
Because the jews control hollywood. And they're all in cultural marxist mode, at the moment. They could sink a trillion dollars and so as long as the cultural marxist jews are allowed to run shit, they'll effortless sink a trillion more. You need to replace the cultural marxist Jews with the other kind.
Because companies have realized that accusing anyone who doesn't see the movie of misogyny will get people talking about the movie as though a legitimate discussion is being had. Kobe's past had nothing to do with the ridiculous political spin they set up, so nobody talked about it.
>Sony will just burn a billion dollars to create a feminist "cinematic universe" nobody wants or spends money on
Ghostbusters is a classic here, but people also hate remakes where I live. When I left the theatre for TFA, everyone was saying how shit it was, even normies, probably because we're all miserable fucks
How much you want to bet Marvel finally bought FF back from FOX? Because I dont see anyone at FOX willingly working on that trainwreck. Besides they have Deadpool/XMen to play with still.
I still had a fun time with TFA but its still basically ANH. Not sure why Rey doesnt annoy me more considering how much of a mary sue she is but then again Im not a rabid Star Wars fan to begin with
I'm British and I can confirm. People like Bill Murray and Akroyd but the film itself hasn't stayed in popular consciousness the way it did in the U.S. Who you gonna call is the primary surviving relic of it.
Must be a western Europe thing. Here on the Balkans nobody really cares about Ghostbusters. Movies like Terminator, Robocop, Godfather, etc are considered classics, but Ghostbusters is just some funny movie from 30 years ago.
I think movie studios are JUST starting to realize that NOT all publicity is good publicity.
When you had a guaranteed hit on your hands, the only thing you could do is to fuck it up... and SONY did a great job of fucking up the marketing by thinking instigating sex wars = ticket sales
Reminder that SONY is/was run by legitimate retards who couldnt write full sentences in their emails and confirmed drug addicts.
>"Why yes we want 5 billion dollarydoos for Spider Man.........stop laughing"
i understand that saying "yeah we're reconsidering investing so much in our own cinematic universe" is bad PR, but come the fuck on. what's the point in investing so much into a series that nobody is paying money to see, especially if you can't even release your shit in china?
not to mention every company ever does this. whatever happened to the terminator genisys sequel, or the robocop sequel, or the green lantern sequel, or the john carter sequel, or the golden compass sequel, or the dredd sequel, or the conan sequel, etc
In retrospect, I'm glad.
How much worse would it have been if they didn't feed the trolls and we all went in droves to see it only to realize it had the absolute worst writing and shit casting? It's best they lose millions on this.
Heres the issue I have with movies today that studios cant seem to grasp. They are so worried about creating a franchise, focusing on movie 2-4, they ultimately shit the bed with the first entry. If your first movie is good, Ill fucking see the sequel. You dont need constant sequel bait shit, just focus on a strong narrative and then work from that
This. Marvel managed to hit it out of the fucking park. Whether or not you hate capeshit, you gotta give credit to Feige & co for orchestrating a multibillion dollar franchise.
But suddenly it just doesn't work for everyone? Wow, what a surprise. The only company that had any kind of hope to establish a similar franchise was DC and they are limping along as it is.
The only other exceptions are popular, established anthologies like the Harry Potter series. Like you said, I can't see how companies can dust off old properties and think they'll be worth a damn.
What was the last IP that created a full fledged franchise that was original? The Fast and the Furious series?
Just a reminder that Batman V Superman made nearly $170 million in its opening weekend, even with a 23% RT score.
$46 million (((estimated))) for a $150 million+marketing summer tentpole is ABYSMAL.
>mfw most of the radio shows I listen to rep sony's PR for extra shekels
>mfw they unironically interview Fieg about this movie like it's an art piece
>mfw hosts like Bennington get sucked into seeing the premiere and have to say that they liked it or they won't get bookings from sony anymore
They're spreading the failure awfully thin, it's making me respect my favorite shows less and less for being so defenseless against it.
>It will probably break even after DVD and digital sales
Pfft what year do you think we live on? Not even Netflix is going to want this shit. They probably aren't even going to make half the movie's budget on revenue.
Marvel and DC can make cinematic universes because they have established lore, characters, and all the other shit. Ghostbusters has none of that. How are they even going to create a cinematic universe?
To be fair, it can be done. SONY is just fucking stupid and wanted to stretch Gozer for 3 damn movies. I mean you can get creative with the other worldly spirits and shit, not restricted to dead humans. For example the comics/cartoons had
>Samhain the spirit of Halloween
and so on. But instead we got an agenda with a dumbass who made a ghost machine
10/10 advertising, Sony
This made my fucking day!!
>created devices to disburse power to entities on a different plane of existence
>used lan lines to create a massive cataclysmic event involving ghosts
>desirous to become a high level demon that can command an army of evil spirits to torment and kill the living
>all because girls didn't kiss me and boys gave me wedgies
China bans movies with ghosts in them. The third expansion for WoW had huge delays for its chinese version because it involved the undead and had to rework tons of character models to get past the censors.
He can't wrap his head around the idea of a woman being in charge.
He'd better get used to it, though.
Fox and Marvel hate each other though. It's gotten to the point where the Fantastic Four have been essentially erased from the comics.
Anyway, as shit as Fox is, MCU has a horrible track record for villains. We'd either get a smarmy corporate asshole Doom like the first FF movie, or an absolutely boring statue like Ronan the Accuser.
>What was the last IP that created a full fledged franchise that was original? The Fast and the Furious series?
I'm not the anon you're replying, but you're right and this is shocking. Says a lot about the situation of Hollywood.
They did a great job with Loki. I don't care so much about Doom's origin nearly as much as his personality. If they got his personality right I'd be sold. And I think there's a pretty decent shot they would, unlike Fox.
It's a moot point for now like you said, but at this point it seems conceivable Fox will fail to get another FF movie off the ground in the next few years and eventually let the rights revert like they did with DD.
First thing that comes to mind is Ourates of the Caribbean. Its based off an amusent oark ride so it is original, plus it did come out after the first fast & the furious, made a successful trilogy and it had one decent to mediocre fourth film that came out years after.
It was a pretty good series.
Why did everything have to become a political battlefield?
When will the cult-like social justice crowd just let things be?
Why did the left go full retard on identity politics?
Go to a haunted house. Like a real haunted house, not some spoopy house that you think is haunted, like one that's reputable.
Of course it doesn't matter, you'll still claim you didn't see or hear anything because you have your head jammed up your ass.
Faggots like you are slaves.
Get the fuck back to work, cuck.
These movies will get a sequel
Pacific Rim and Hellboy don't
>Why did everything have to become a political battlefield?
Money and easy access to internet validation
>When will the cult-like social justice crowd just let things be?
Never. They believe the cause is too righteous to just stop. We just need to wait for the infighting to cause the movement to implode in on itself and let the louder voices in the current dialogue fade back into irrelevance.
>Why did the left go full retard on identity politics?
A portion of the left has always been about idpol. The only difference is that the portion is getting more invasive into important fields like academia, and it impacts the youth's development. The third wave feminists of the 90's became liberal arts professors of today.
You can all laugh at me for saying this, but that doesn't make it less true:
They're fundamentally communists. When they can't overthrow existing power structures through numbers and strength of arms, they've been taught how to infiltrate, subvert and demoralise them.
Effectively they've been spreading like a disease through every company and branch of media they can get their slimy tendrils into for the last decade or more.
Did you know most "legit and reputable" haunted houses were just made up? In the 60's and 70's Ghosts and shit were super popular, so tourism boards invented stories of murder or evil Madams or mourning wives. It's all made up buddy to get dollars out of dumb tourists. None of thouse houses are haunted.
Non Disney studios will continue to pump out cape shit because that is the only way they can prevent Disney from acquiring it.
Even if the movie is awful and they lose a little money they will still keep making them until they finally sell them.
>co-opting a historically controlled opposition cause like feminism in the name of marketing is fundamentally communism
good thing you're not a complete imbecile, otherwise that statement would've been embarrassing
As much as liberals like to bitch about 'muh McCarthy', declassified documents show he had about a 95% success rate in fingering people who genuinely were communist agents.
If the idea of a shadowy cabal working behind the scenes to spread an agenda seems like insane tinfoil hat conspiracy theorising to you, look up the following:
>The Business Plot
And there's plenty more besides.
>>The Business Plot
>cia covert operations are evidence of communist infiltration
the fun part is that you think of yourself as smart
A movie that perfectly encapsulates a feminist.
I never said 'communism', I said 'shadowy cabal'.
I think you might be the one in need of some extra chromosomes if you can't discern between specific examples of communist subversion and generic examples of subversive plots that turned out to be provable beyond all reasonable doubt.
Now kindly fuck off back to whatever shill-hole you crawled out from (SRS? Freech? SA?).
im guessing you're >>72132606
the same retard that said co-opting a historically controlled opposition cause like feminism in the name of marketing is fundamentally communism
please, keep going, i wont stop you. im sure the rest of the world agrees that you're a genius too. im sure you can attest to that on your everyday life
Yeah but it did end on a cliffhanger:
>Red, Liz, Krauss and Abe all leaving the BPRD
>Red to become the Beast of the Apocalypse
>Liz pregnant with twins
Because the movies have their own continuity, we'll never get answers to these. ;_;
It's shit. Everyone thinks it's shit. Even the most positive of critics said that the movie cannot compare to the original. No matter how many NuBusters movies they will make, they won't ever hold a candle to the originals.
Just throwing it out there, instead of this mess, have an all black cast, written and starring Dave Chappelle.
>"Stop asking about the city damages already! We have ghosts nigga, FUCKING GHOSTS! See look I got ectoplasm on this special ghostbusting napkin!"
>"Pray to god you dont drop that shit"
>Do you think Sony Japan will ever one day realize how retarded Sony Pictures is being
If this was the 1500's, Sony Japan would have the entire Sony pictures executive team commit seppuku, as well they should....
Did you know that you're full of shit and need to fucking kill yourself?
If not then you should.
I've lived in a haunted house, go fuck yourself master of nothing, manipulator and cheater.
Childish insults aren't helping your case, crazy man.
>this board is a joke because no else believes ghosts are real
There are occasions where a studio decides that there is enough interest to warrant a sequel, but will make serious changes to the cast, director, producer, writers, or just a significantly smaller budget.
With the Chinese market out of the picture and a lukewarm reception everywhere else, I'd say that's about the best case scenario for Ghostbusters going forward.
>Their blacks don't have nigger rap
Clearly you've never visited London.
Most of our blacks are from the West Indies, which is the source of the bulk of 'muh reparashuns!' calls, and Nigeria, which has a massive stick up it's arse over the whole 'Scramble for Africa' thing.
We've had country-wide riots over 'police racism and brutality' because some black guy got ventilated by a police armed unit...whilst driving in a vehicle transporting automatic weapons for their gang war.
Man you guys are dumb if you think they're actually serious. Do you really think anyone at Sony is actually going to come out and say
>Well, we fucked up. Guess we're scrapping this shit, later Feig.
right after the film's opening weekend? That'd just discourage audiences even further at this point.
They're going to wait for this movie to languish in discount theaters for at LEAST another couple months before announcing they're abandoning the property. That's what any sensible film company would do.
Oh, wait, Sony Pictures isn't a sensible company at all. They might actually be serious.
>We've had country-wide riots over 'police racism and brutality' because some black guy got ventilated by a police armed unit...whilst driving in a vehicle transporting automatic weapons for their gang war.
Now I don't feel as bad about America
At least they shoved some seniors into ghostbusters.
Im still worried, showing seniors a ghost movie, while a fun pet animation is avaible.
>see, if you die, you will come back as ghosts!!!
>No china release due to ghosts being too spoopy and we must honor the dead
>Europoors don't give a fuck about Ghostbusters save for maybe the UK
>Japan/Korea hates blacks so Leslie Jones will turn them off
>Bad word of mouth is already ruining it in USA and Canada
They better have really good spanish voice work because Mexico and SA are the only places this disaster can make money.
>all that SJW viral marketing
>nobody goes to see it
> "I know Sony is crowing about it being a great opening for a comedy, but the entire Ghostbusters legacy is what's at stake here, and it's not looking good. This was supposed to be a blockbuster," he continues. "Sony definitively did not launch a franchise, and seemingly they might be the only ones that don't know it. I know it's been a tough road for them, and I feel for them."
SONY NON-FIGURATIVELY ON SUICIDE WATCH
free leg movement?
They are nearly blind?
"First in the row, im the winner"
I dont have any clues and asked myself that.
But i didnt dare to ask any in the first row.
Im afraid its something i would gave a facepalm.
>do you know what edgy teens do in 2016?
>GB2016 is a bomb
>everyone but paid film critics and mentally impaired socjus dislike it
>wander into community where 99.5-100% of all people browsing outright detest it
>OH GOOD ONE GUYS HURRR YEAH EVERYBODY HATES GHOSTBUSTERS XDDD GOOD JOB /V/ WE DID IT LELELE
You are the edgy teen.
In order to make a tentpole franchise, you need a good, solid center pole.
All of the talk around this movie along with its status-quo ending and sequel hook showed how Sony couldn't see the trees for the forest.
>tfw Sony has to spend their own money to inflate their box office numbers
I seem to remember Sony saying there would be a spin-off movie with an all male cast. I always saw that as preemptive damage control, if the fembusters fail they can just role out the new new team. Sort of like what they did with Spiderman and The Amazing Spiderman.
Truth be told, I'm kinda hoping that the next Ghostbusters thing they do face plants even harder. That's how sick of reboots I've gotten.
I don't understand why guys still give this movie the attention it doesn't deserve, Someone already mention this movie is just a huge marketing promo for the merchandise and mentioned that the royalty money is what Sony are really after which includes renewing some old films merch and licensing them out again which is kike tier but it's new money, When you look at it further, this is actually not the riskiest venture for Sony. Rachet and Clank, The Interview or Sausage fest actually has more risk. If you guys really want this movie to fail then just simply stop talking about it!
