As of right now, here are the current season packs available online. Use the filenames to pick the release you want. NTb is the best quality so far. The 4K season pack by NTb is nearing its release.

>Stranger.Things.S01.1080p.NF.WEBRip.DD5.1.x264-NTb (25GB)
>Stranger.Things.S01.1080p.WEBRip.DD5.1.x264-SKGTV (24GB)

>Stranger.Things.S01.NF.WEBRip.DD5.1.x264-BTW (4GB)
>Stranger.Things.S01.WEBRip.AAC2.0.x264-TURBO (2GB)

So far, /tv/ thinks this is one of the better shows Netflix has produced, but it's not without it's flaws. What do you think?

I've just started watching it, I like it so far but the plot with the sister getting CHADed and winonas acting is letting it down

Why did you corner this child in an abandoned building, anon?! Can't you see she's scared?
>>
>>72121301

Man what the fuck is wrong with you? You can't watch a TV show without getting triggered by Chad?
>>
>>72121301
in the end she sticks with Chad who isn't really a bad guy
>>
Just finished it. 7/10 from me.
+Great cinematography
+Really good casting
+The chief is based and definitely captured the 80's spirit on that character
+Great pacing and story arcs escalation
+Nancy ending up with Steve and not the weirdo felt right.
-Feels like an homage to the 80s instead of something made back then (there's no way a film like this would have a soundtrack so heavy on the synth and not cheesy pop songs)
-Kids screaming can be annoying
-Predictable
-El is overpowered and just like in Looper I don't like it when they use fantasy in a sci-fi theme.

I hope they make it an anthology series unlike Halloween that missed the chance to become based.

including Chad is just too easy and done do to death. It's literally a trope to have Chad in your TV and films
>>
As a non-beta male, I was pleased to see the realism of Chad getting the girl in the end.
>>
so does Will become the next flea man or the thing he coughed up?
>>
>>72122065
Hopefully youre right. Each season becoming a different story about some strange occurrence in that town, a la Eerie Indiana, would be dope.

Always really wondered what Halloween couldve been if they kept that formula after Season of the Witch.
>>
Also, just finished watching it. Give it a hard 8 to a soft 9 out of 10. Show was overall great. Nice soundtrack. The cinematography was awesome. Based chief. I never watched Twin Peaks or that other show people are comparing it to but I really enjoyed the ride.
>>
>>72122309

You really need to watch Peaks. You'll notice the similarity between the pilot and this show instantly, plus its a 10/10 show
>>
>>72122370
My wife had never seen it, so I've been rewatching it with her in the past weeks.

They're not THAT similar. There's the overall small town mystery feel, but that's about it.
>>
>>72121301

The Chad is actually quite cool.
>>
>>72122110

Spoiler: Chad unChads.
>>
>>72120458
I liked it a lot. I'll give it a 10/10 for the first go and maybe an 8/10 for rewatchability since the show seems to lose flavor once you know the result, i.e. the ride isn't as fun.

The tribute to '80s Sci-Fi and Horror was really terrific. I adore the way they made the chief look like Jack Nicholson and had Ryder's character axing through the wall (which was a door to another dimension) in spirit of The Shining. The elements of the story centered on the kids and the girl were very E.T., while the girl's powers were Carrie.

That isn't to say there aren't elements of stories outside of this categorization. I think the party was a bit like Sixteen Candles (or maybe I have another movie in mind), the kids feminizing Eleven was like Weird Science, and Lucas using his slingshot to hit the monster was like It.

I think they wanted to fit a lot in there (and I'm probably missing a good deal anyhow), but they then put the ones they couldn't weave in as posters -- Star Wars, The Thing, The Evil Dead.

Nonetheless, I liked it a lot, and the ending has me hopeful they have a Season 2 story in mind already. I just hope that blowing their '80s load in this first season won't cost them.
>>
>>72121296
I literally thought the same fucking thing.
>>
>>72122065
>I don't like it when they use fantasy in a sci-fi theme.

What was fantasy-based here? El? Her telepathy/telekinesis was from MKULTRA mind control experiments, she wasn't a witch.

I'm trying to fathom where this critique came from, within the context of your post and the overall show, and I'm missing it. Unless you didn't like the kids' dungeons & dragons references which was the only fantasy-thing about the show at all.
>>
>>72123381
>Unless you didn't like the kids' dungeons & dragons references which was the only fantasy-thing about the show at all.

It's another dimension, but it's very supernatural, it could be hell, the underworld, whatever. It's not pure sci-fi at all.
>>
>>72121301
the chad actually turns out to be a pretty cool dude in the second half of the season

Just said the same here >>72123412

I assumed it'd be an anthology because the story was structured so tightly as like an eight hour movie. So long as the next season is less of a spinning-their-wheels type of thing that successful American shows like to do when they know they have to keep going for a while and more of a "this is the sequel" kind of thing it could be alright. Like the Gremlins 2 to this show's Gremlins.

/a/ here

This show is basically elfen lied - even down to the "papa papa" screaming.

>Psychic child
>given away by farther to shady government research institute
>"papa papa" as she gets dragged down the hallway
>girl who now lives with the kid is basically mute
>Strangely emotionless mercenaries chasing her
>Killing anybody who gets in their way

All it needs is a scene where someone gets their arms and legs chopped off and it's the same fuckin show. Tell me I'm not crazy.

>Also what deal do you think hopper made with the gubment?

Hopper is an ex federal agent. Being a "big city cop" was a cover story. This is how he knew where to look for microphone bugs and how to disarm armed guards and extract kids from that situation.

People keep bringing it up so you're not crazy, but it's such a classic trope like so many tropes used in this show that's been used in so many other shows before it. I don't know where it started but it has to be some classic literature or something. I remember Fringe was the last show I watched with something like this, and Kiznaiver for animu.
>>
>>72124907
do you have any idea how many movies have these tropes in it? it's not influenced by anime...maybe akira but that's about it

I was fucking super worried for him when the woman came asking questions. Most of the adults in this were genuinely good people, which is super nice. The two deputies were comedic relief and incompetent, but the teacher, the sheriff, the mothers, all really nicely portrayed people.

It was weird that Steves super asshole friends didn't get a bigger comeuppance. If that were a King story, they'd be mind raped and brutally murdered. Instead they got a good talking to, and then they were still assholes, but then were gone.

Also, who here thinks that the kids should've had a bigger impact? Like the monster killer rock hit the monster in the throat and it choked on it, or they had some residual telekinesis and helped El at the end or something, so it was the kids vs the bad monster and not just El

They weren't stolen since the creators were upfront about how the show was a tribute to the 80s.

They tried that with Lost (Heroes, FlashForward, The Event etc.) and it didn't work. They tried it with Mad Men (Playboy Club, PanAm, Magic City) and it didn't work. I can't see anyone trying to ape this without failing miserably.

They deliberately and overtly repurposed the "ideas" and formed a coherent homage that stands independent from the works it's influenced by in order to recapture some of the emotions that the original stories managed to evoke.

The cliff jump let it down, but otherwise I agree. That said, it's not just the effects. It's...everything. The character interactions, the story structure. People have been trying to say they're making a ten hour movie or a thirteen hour movie for ages now, but other than Daredevil (which came close to me, flame all you want) nothing has approached actually doing that. This succeeded 100%.

That was a shock. The only true SJW bit was the scene with Nancy and what's his face target shooting and she says something like, "Fuck the nuclear family", and I audibly groaned. But then I chalked it up to them being dumb and naive teenagers and not knowing any better.
>>
>>72122110
That's kind of the point though. It's supposed to feel like an 80s thing. Chads were a vital part of storytelling in the 80s The whole entire thing is supposed to be a collection of tropes, but its done in such a way that still feels cozy and fresh. It's about good execution instead of originality.

The monster they fight at the end is a kind of DnD monster that can breed with other monsters to create something entirely new. Like Thassal____ but that one happened to be a Thassalhydra. So it's major foreshadowing of the nature of the how they're going to proceed to future seasons.

It was a deliberate red herring. In Stephen King's It they shoot a silver slug with a slingshot at the monster to make it go back into hibernation. The theme of blood among the gang is prominent too, holding some power over the monster if I recall correctly. Anyone familiar with It, which is most, would immediately put two and two together and figure it would impact the monster somehow in the final scene making El's death more surprising. I don't know, my thoughts, i'm fucked.
>>

I loved how symbolically, thematically and literally almost everything was about birth and parenthood.

Most of the character relationships and drama, the monster, vagina wall, etc. It's so bizarre how Eleven was born to somebody going through MKULTRA. She had to astral project or whatever in a bathtub mimicing a womb. The monster was giving birth to an egg thing or something when they met. It's all really weird and feels like it should connect somehow but I don't know how.

I wonder if the monster isn't El's jungian shadow or something.
>>
>>72126233

I thought she was great, it's just that she was distractingly one-note in a show full of performances with a lot of levels.

What's supernatural about it? It's another dimension that houses a disgusting creature. There's nothing that's particularly un scientific about that dimension. It's probably some kind of echo of our reality instead of an actual separate one. Horrible things evolved to lurk in that echo. Again nothing un scientific about it. It's simply not grasped by their science, but nothing about it says spooky ghosts and magic etc. in place of science.

The fact that the show introduced the kids in a D&D scene and that imagery/language stayed throughout the story was really important in me liking it. >>72126233

There's a really good shot when Joyce is being interogated by Dr. Benner. The camera cuts off his face because he's standing up despite the fact he's talking directly to Joyce. He's essentially a faceless man, like how the monster is described by Nancy and Joyce earlier in the series. To make it even more interesting we can see both their reflections in the background on a big pane of black glass which seems to be a reference to the Upside Down- a mirror world that reflects our own.

the upside: pretty good overall. lot of little nice touches that are pretty creative and felt right: the crazy lady who speaks to her missing kid through blinking christmas lights, raw eggos, Elle's acting, haymakers, black kid commando-up, bro and sis swearing to tell each other the truth but having trouble admitting the truth to themselves about romance, the 10 hour d&d campaign's conclusion that felt unsatisfying to the players who wanted more stuff to be addressed (wink wink).
