Its not "banned" in China per se. It's just that the government has a quota of films it allows from abroad to hit cinemas, something like 20 but maybe more recently. So they have a max limit to how many they let in so that domestic movies can compete. The Chinese decided not to let Nutbusters to hit silver screens because some other foreign film has a better chance at making money in China. The thing is Sony has never had any love for Ghostbusters from the moment they acquired it along with Columbia Pictures.
