I really liked the first season, when it was a murder mystery in the deep south with vampires.
Then season 2 became a bit more odd.
Then they went completely overboard with fantastic shit in season 3 and I dropped it.
But the first season is pretty good.

It was more like a fun B-movie during the RTD years. Moffat forgot that it's basically a kids/family show and tried to pander to heavy-breathing convention-frequenting Sherlock-loving thirty year olds who unironically think that it is intelligent TV and high drama.
Probably even worse than that shitshow Entourage was but I still can't help myself. ;_;

Yeah. That's my problem with Moffat's run. He does good episodes, because they can be unique and interesting twists on the usual formula, but as a showrunner he tries to make everything like that. It doesn't need to be amazing high concept like he tries to make it.

I recently rewatched the show for the first time since it's original run and I'd argue that first two seasons were the worst. While latter seasons were convoluted and cheesy, first season is riddled with bad acting and cringey dialogue ("I'm a complex guy, sweetheart") and second is basically one endless argument about the hatch. Also Jack's "I need to be a hero and save everyone" autism is pretty hard to endure at times.
