>Stranger.Things.S01.1080p.WEBRip.DD5.1.x264-SKGTV (24GB)

>Stranger.Things.S01.WEBRip.AAC2.0.x264-TURBO (2GB)

So far, /tv/ thinks this is one of the better shows Netflix has produced, but it's not without it's flaws. What do you think?
>>
>>72063901
it's probably the best show to come out in a while in general
>>
>>72063901
absolutely loved it

but the main problem is the story was kinda just copy pasted and I have very low expectations of a good season 2

Felt this way as well. Maybe it's part of nostalgia, definitely, since it does remind me a lot of my childhood and the type of movies I loved growing up, but man I enjoyed the hell out of this.

Curius as hell as to what they'll do for S2 though. The creators said it is more of a "sequel" than a "second season".

He was great, loved his interactions with the kids and that fucking phonecall.

I really hope they don't do a timeskip and replace the kids.

How did they do it? They did a stellar job casting teens who looked like they really belonged in the 80's and in 80's films.

Best character desu
>>
Finished watching the entire season just now.

Fuck my ass raw, this was so fucking good. Havent felt this good about a show in a very long time.

I feel... Happiness...

Also, slutty nancy choosing steve really ruined the ending.
>>
The teen subplot was awful. The teen subplot was awful. Nancy, especially, was a really bad character. Too wish washy. The romance was particularly bad because it's hard to believe they would act so mushy with each other when they were under stress, and the events are too recent.

Barb's death and character in general was just to move Nancy around, which is a shame since it's like no one cares about her at all, not her parents or the police, she has no other friends. No one. Not even really Nancy, because while she goes after her friend it doesn't feel like she really cares, you know. Her best friend is dead, and her final scene is boyfriend drama. Meanwhile, her brother misses his friend/crush Eleven. But the show doesn't acknowledge her death properly at all.
>>
>>72064553
i clenched a bit when he drove off with those men-in-blacks at the end. so hoping they are continuing the story with these characters, because i wanna know what he was doing in the forest with the food and also what the drive was about.

i was totally waiting for the christmas lights to blink, but then maybe that is too predictable much like Nancy ending up with Jonathan. Which, I'm impressed they didn't go with that, it still bugs the fuck out of me. But I ain't mad, just saying bravo to them.

I'd say the monster is still an alien, just not a 'space' alien.

Also, was it just me, or did the cg get worse as the episodes went on? It might've just been how little they showed at first, but the last episode looked fairly meh.

>>72065205
This is why I'm hoping they don't age them up in S2 with a timeskip. These kids were fantastic.

I think shows like The Strain really put me off on child actors, so I had little hope for them in this, but man. Kudos to them. Loved every scene that included them
>>
>>72065375
yeah S1 is only 8 episodes total

First Braindead and now this. Summer's been full of pleasant surprises. Legit good show senpai. Solid performances (Ryder came off as a bit whiny at times but it wasn't annoying all things considered) nice visuals, great writing, good music and it didn't treat you like an idiot. It was a little clichéd but it was so well executed that I didn't mind. My only gripe was that they didn't show Hopper carry Barb's body to our dimension and I really hope he did but that's a nitpick. It was so comfy and self contained that I don't even care if we get a second season or not. I will watch it, but I won't rage if it doesn't happen. The show did a great job explaining things while leaving just enough unanswered to make sure you come back once season 2 airs. A solid 8/10
>>
>>72065462

just started watching this. In ep 2 Modern English's "melt with you" starts playing during the pool scene. Was there an original version of this song or alternate version where the lyrics were "melt FOR you" instead of "melt WITH you"?

some quick googling shows the lyrics are MELT WITH YOU not FOR YOU.

Is this what they mean by mandela effect?
>>
>>72065936
>expecting the most honest character in the show to lie about a slug coming out

He's already lying that everything is fine and dandy, when he's seeing glimpses of upside world. There is nothing to indicate that was his first "flash", on contrary, as he braced himself and endured. He's a young boy in denial that his nightmare isn't over.

Your reading of the scene and character is wrong.

Even if he didn't see it, he definitely FELT a nearly three inch alien slug as thick as a baby banana come out of his throat.

The kid's just grateful for everything his loved ones went through to get him back. He's not about to worry his mom to death by telling her that he occasionally flashes back to the upside down and spits out slugs. He's trying to maintain as much normalcy as he can hold on to. He probably hasn't even told his friends yet.

i thought the quick flashes of it were better and the scene where El goes to touch it in the Darkness. But yeah I kidna wish they used practical effects for close up shots and when interacting with the humans. Like, get Javier Botet to play it. S2 hopes right there for the next monster.

Which reminds me, how fucking great were all of the kids? Incredible performances all of them. And the casting. Where the fuck did they get all of those faces? I mean yeah make up and hair was a big part of it, but they all had an 80s quality about them. I might sound retarded but I feel like most of the actors and especially the kids really fit the era. Just like the girl from The House of the Devil. 80s faces.
>>

The first season was like Chronicle with aspects from ET, Super 8 etc. all that Spielberg/Abrams movies just as a mystery show. It kinda also remembered me of Elfenlied with that weird father daughter connection.
>>
>>72065851
Did you miss the egg Hopper saw when they went in? Seemed pretty obvious that there's gonna be more
>>
>>72066741
Yeah the casting for this was fantastic. hair and makeup really did wonders but the actors themselves all had that 80s feel to them that worked so well.

That douchey best friend of Steve? He and his girlfriend looked straight out of my childhood in 80's horror/teen films.

I like that they all looked like normal teens you'd expect, nothing CW-tier.
>>
Did you guys notice all the easter egg references?

Mr. Clarke = Clarke, the dog wrangler from the Thing

O'Bannon = the writer of Alien

And some others I can't remember.
>>
>>72066527
The only downright shitty green screen fuckery in the entire show was Mike's feet before he jumped off the cliff. The rest of the effects ranged from TV tier to really good.

true that definitely hinted at more things to come. i hope it's a new design or something entirely different from the creature in S1 though, just would like if they explored it more

The highschool scenes are the worst. Anyone that went to highschool knows that it isn't even like that. When I was in highschool pretty much everyone got along for the most part, even the weird quiet kids. Only the ghetto kids would start trouble but if you took AP classes you didn't have to worry about any of that. Even really just kept to themselves, except for the occasional banter.

>>
>>72064604
They will, it's been confirmed pretty solidly in a recent interview. I really hope they can make it work, but I bet they can. I hope they forget about the baby monsters though, save it for a spin-off a few years later with different characters and set in the future, those things need time to grow and I want something original.
>>
>>72065152
8/10. It was enjoyable but didn't have anything new to offer. It's a pretty forgettable show in the end.

I was hoping Stranger Things would be an anthology rather than a series. I'm not convinced the second season will have legs to stand on if it keeps the same characters and conceit.

I'm lucky enough to be able to hang out with the same people I did in grade school. Yeah we've grown apart what with kids and jobs and bills and moving to different states and shit but we always make time when we can. And even though we don't see each other as often as we'd like, the memories remain. Feels good man. I'm so grateful I got to live through bike rides and hide and seek and exploring abandoned buildings and chilling by the lake. All kids today have is gadgets and screens of varying sizes.

Yes and no. Only one I still keep in contact with since 8 or so, maybe it was 12. Keep mostly to myself now though unfortunately.

On topic though, at first I thought Will saw the slug and lied about seeing it too but another Anon did point out he's known for his honesty. Maybe he didn't see it, eyes closed, etc etc. Seems off he'd lie.

Kids acting was great too. I usually hate kids acting but they were pretty good. Iffy in some spots but compared to kids their age, real good.

I hope They keep the same story going and not some american horror story shit. Also hope it's alright. Even if it isn't this overall was an fantastic season.

I had a bit of a crazy theory here. They never shut the gate and he's working with the government, so what if in the end scene there he's actually in the upside down-world? It would be a bit weird that he wasn't wearing a suit, but perhaps the toxicity was due to the monster and without it the air is breathable perfectly.

You obviously had a pretty good highschool experience. Mine was as well, but it was like that.

And Primary/Middle School was pretty much like on the show as well. I even had a similar confrontation with an asshole in the woods for similar reasons. No telekinesis or jumping off cliffs though.

this show is absolute dogshit. in the first 30 mins, we get every horror cliche in the book. its like a terrible mashup of the worst of george lucas, spielberg, stephen king, all thrown together with the corniest fucking plot imaginable. completely rips off super 8, goonies, e.t., among other things. i cant think of one thing thats fresh or original about this series, its just one predictable , eye rolling cliche after another that weve seen hundreds of times before. do yourself a favor and dont bother with this. anyone who is giving this favorable reviews is most likely under the age of 16.

How does a kid knows how to load a gun

ameritards? explain?
>>

It's a .22

Very small caliber.

Mostly used to hunt small game.

Not that uncommon for young kids, specially a middle schooler, to have one and hunted say with a parental.

Its one of the best shows of netflix, yeah. Awesome.

The CGI on the last episode was kind kf cringy tho. Really bad.

I was expecting something more... Lovecraftian. I was sure it was something they borrowed from lovecraft's mythos.

sorry i cant enjoy something thats predictable as hell. "but its an homage to the 80's!". yeah i get it. stop using that as an excuse as to why there is zero originality in this series. a series can be an homage and still offer a fresh take on it and not literally rip off its dialogue and characters from other movies and tv series.
