There's a major black woman character who was a subject of violent racist in her own world, so she naturally distructs and even openly hates white guy dressed-as-cowboy Roland in fact so much that she has entire split personality inside her, and this dynamic carries on for a while and contributes to her character growth when she moves past her petties, literally merges two personalies, and falls in love with white guy (not Roland tho). Roland himself is also not a cowboy, he's a knight, and a close descent of King Arthur himself, lives in a castle, and belong to a ruling family. Also, several characters in the books mention striking resemblance between Roland and Clint Eastwood, I think its Jake who says that they look almost identical, except for the eyes - Eastwood's are green and Roland's icy blue. Not to mention who much of racial understones as characters constantly travels between different parts of 19-20 century New York
