Thunderball is pretty good actually, if a bit languid and bloated. It has some of the best Bond girls too
>>72051157
yeah TWINE was probably one of the all around weakest
mega qts though
What's wrong with Thunderball?
I thought it was ok
>he thinks Sean Connery is a good actor
>>72051179
I disagree, I think it's one of the best films in the series. Elektra is both a great Bond girl and an interesting and unique villain. The action setpieces are great, Brosnan's performance is phenomenal and more Valentin Zukovsky is never a bad thing. So underrated it's a crime
>>72051185
>constant jump-cuts make it look cheap despite its huge budget
>more characters than necessary, only a few of them matter at all
>stuff that belongs in die another day like bond screwing underwater and the rehab center next door to the air force base

most of these flaws apply to most of the old bond movies, but i think anything bad you could say about the old bond movies applies even more to thunderball. generally it's simply a step down from goldfinger
>>72049449
>thunderball
>not Never Say Never Again
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZqqYoLRTgI8
Yes, an unofficial bond movie made in the early 80's by people who mad the Indiana Jones trilogy staring Sean Connery as an out of shape agent who's on the verge of retirement and regarded as a past it relic, with MI6 being an underfunded organization with gadgets that don't work half the time.
it's AMAZING
>>72051386
you talk about it as if we don't all know about it already
>>72051310

they literally invented modern underwater filming on set to make that movie
Also, best intro song, and one of the best Bond films clearly
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IqdqAAzjgDE
>>72051310
I think you are forgetting that thunderball was made in the 60's
Yeah by modern standards it's cheesy, but they basically pioneered underwater filming
>>72051386
Aside from a few really funny parts that may or may not have been intentional, NSNA is horrible. It's like what you would get if The Cannon Group made a Bond movie
>>72051440
>>72051515
i don't fucking care what they invented dude. they absolutely ruined the climax of the movie with underwater filming so i don't care whether or not it was a demonstration
>>72049571
>>he likes any of the Daniel Craig movies
Casino Royale was OK, but just not fun enough, a great movie but just an ok bond movie. the intro credits were fantastic though
Quantum of Solace was what the fuck were they thinking tier, i mean the henchman was dispatched by a woman casually pushing down a short flight of stairs, it was terrible from a story perspective and none of the villains felt threatening in the least
Skyfall was good. legit good. LET THE PIEFALL
Spectre was a missed opportunity, it had all the issues QoS had with a muddy plot, confusing action scenes that didn't fit and weren't fun enough to "just be there for fun" and they really need to just have some fun villains instead of the boring fan fiction shit they had in that one.
>>72051553
>It's like what you would get if The Cannon Group made a Bond movie
That would be the greatest film ever made
>>72051754
I'll elaborate, it's like what you would get if The Cannon Group made a Bond movie and wasn't allowed to deviate from the formula or put in any nudity or blood
>>72052174
That's like making a Nicolas cage movie and not letting him eat the scenery
or a wood allen film and not letting him rape little girls on set

Thunderball started good but went to fucking shit.
They're fighting like 15 minutes under water, then they're in that super fast boat (super fast = fast forward scenes) and the film ends abruptly 30 seconds after the boat explodes.

>>72049587
Why is Bond such culutural ico for everyone again? In all his movies he getd BTFO and screams for help and only wins by luck
>>72055541
YOLT is one of the disputed films in the series, some consider it one of the best while others think it's one of the worst.
It's actually my favorite Bond film by far. Any flaws it has are overshadowed by 10/10 directing, music, locations, set design and just being immensely entertaining.

Of all the actors who played Bond, Moore phones it in the most. Also, his films are, as mentioned elsewhere, so silly and unbelievable (even for Bond films, which are usually pretty unbelievable) to be enjoyable. They're just trying of one's patience and suspension of disbelief.
>>72052652
The movie hyped me the fuck up when they called in all 9 00 agents. And then it went to shit.

You Only Live Twice.
Hating Moore is just a meme; he made some of the best Bond films.
>>72056401
for me, James Bond movies make me forget about my troubles and get lost in another world like no other. They are infinitely rewatchable and it's also fun to compare and contrast them. They are also an interesting window into their respective eras and how styles, movie-making techniques and the zeitgeist have changed since the sixties, all within the context of a single franchise.

Silly and campy are fine, but the Moore films couldn't hit the tone; it was as if they still wanted to be taken seriously.
>>72057324
I think you're right on the money with some of his his films.
However, The Spy Who Loved Me was no cheesier than some of the Connery films and Moonraker went full self-parody, and I mean that in the best way possible. So much fun
Then you have For Your Eyes Only which is played rather straight except for that one scene in the rink. All-in-all the three movies he made in the middle of his stint as Bond are really good, the others I agree have uneven tones
>>72049449
It's alright. You Only Live Twice is worse.
>>72057501
Jesus son, kill yourself. Literally baiting or no taste.
>>72057501
>implying You Only Live Twice isn't the GOAT Bond movie
fight me faggot
>>72057480
They put Moore in space and dressed him up like a clown, sure, but I never understood why people consider him so much more campy than a lot of what Connery and Brosnan did.
Bond was always campy, and even the Lazenby and Dalton movies - that are thought of as more serious - have their fair share of camp.
>>72057710
what would you have thought if george lazenby first played bond in this film? would he have out-performed connery who hated bond at that point?
>>72057851
Not really. Bond had always humor but Moore films are the only ones that can actually be considered camp.
>>72057851
I think it's his performance, he has this wink-and-nod vibe that makes you take everything he does less seriously. Doesn't help that he has the most obvious stunt doubles and that in the eighties he looked downright decrepit.
That said I agree for the most part, and I really do think Moonraker gets a bad rap. Literally one of the top 5 best Bond films
Brosnan > Connery > Craig > Moore > Dalton > Lazemby

>>72058153

>contrarian babby
>>72057936
No way, and I think Connery's performance is underrated. Sure you can tell he's frustrated and sick of being 007 but he still oozes charisma and fits the role like a glove.
Lazenby on the other hand has this uncertainty to his performance that I find displeasing. Even so I don't think he's quite as bad as some make him out to be
>>72056118
when we talk about a "James Bond Film" we're really talking about The Spy Who Loved Me.
>>72058291
except it's just a remake of You Only Live Twice, just with a lamer villain and a less satisfying climax
>>72057710
>>72057608
It starts out great, but it gets boring by the time he turns Japanese, I'm surprised I'm the only one who feels this way.
Diamonds are Forever is the underrated one.
Now what's the best theme and why is it A View to a Kill?
>>72058291
I always thought The Spy Who Loved Me (and From Russia with Love, for that matter) was the most overrated Bond film (it does have one of the best openings, though).
For Your Eyes Only is the best Moore film.
>>72058396
>omitting jaws
>>72058472
>but it gets boring by the time he turns Japanese
the fuck? Like ten minutes after this is he infiltrates the volcano base, which I would definitely NOT describe as "boring"
As for DAF, I rewatched it a couple nights ago and while it is an enjoyable movie, I hate Charles Gray as Blofed, the two gay henchman are stupid as fuck and Connery looks just a bit too out-of-shape. Plus the finale in the oil rig is rather anti-climactic

It should also be a crime to not mention Nancy Sinatra's YOLT under best themes

Meant to add that it's otherwise a much better list than you usually see in Bond threads.
>>72058678
I'm all for fun Bond movies, but the ending with the volcano base fight scene is so terrible directed. Most everyone dies from grenade explosions. Maybe i need to rewatch it.
I'll agree, Charles Gray is kinda dumb as Blofeld, but those henchmen were funny as Hell.

>>72059426
And he was never heard from again. What a guy.
>>72059330
Completely true. There wasn't really a precedent for bond other than Connery, and he sort of just did the same thing with less charisma.
The entire part that takes place in the Alps is some of the best Bond ever made, but the love story/marriage all just fell flat for me and seemed completely out of pace with the rest of the film.

Mr. Wint and Mr. Kidd are funny, but I really don't think that Bond henchman should be the comic relief. They should be tough and threatening

Many parts of TMWTGG were pretty dumb, and overall it's not that great of a movie (it's been awhile, but from what I can remember the best way to put it is simply that it's boring).
That said, it has some of the best villains, henchmen, locations, stunts (slide whistle aside), and gadgets (only thing cooler than the flying car was the one that turned into a submarine).
Some things like the third nipple and bringing back the sheriff from Live and Let Die were outright dumb, but the final Enter the Dragon showdown with Scaramanga was great.
