LOTR is based off books from the 30s. Of course the theme seems vanilla when the same theme had been done in films for 70 years.

Camera work is a legitimate complain tho.

I know but the director could have made it more interesting if he chose to. I guess I mean the adaptatation is vanilla. And I used to love them when I was 13. I honestly didn't give a shit about frodo and if it wasn't for based viggo might not have for aragorn either.

I legit came out of the theater with tears welling in my eyes over how bad this was.

i've been a massive Godzilla fan my entire life, my favourite toys as a kid were Godzilla toys, I used to hire Godzilla films from the video shop every week.

The huge amount of hype and praise for this film, the great marketing, the awesome teasers and trailers.

The first 15-20 minutes of the film being fucking PERFECT. Then everything just becomes so fucking bad.

"Hey want to see Godzilla fight these fucking monsters? Oh shit is starting to go down, OH WELL SKIP TO GENERIC MILITARY BLANK SLATE CHARACTER"

I don't think there are solid shots of Godzilla in that film that even go longer than 20 seconds. There is also like only 6 minutes of Godzilla in the entire film, most of which are him in the water.

This movie had about 20 minutes of Godzilla.

Every classic Godzilla film is full of an hour of boring, worthless, throw away acting and stupid fucking plots involving aliens or super soldiers or some other dumb shit, and they have roughly 15-20 minutes of rubber suit monsters breaking models and slamming one another nonsensically with no physics.

This film was literally no different than any of those movies.

People who say they cried after Godzilla 2014 or whatever aren't classic Toho fans. If they had to watch Matango, or Atragon, or Gorath, or Rodan, they would shit themselves in retarded fits and vomit on themselves halfway through the movie.

Some of the most boring shit imaginable was produced by Toho, and 90% of the original 1954 Gojira film was boring ass people doing jack and shit, with cardboard composite characters no one cared about.

I always ignore anyone who does the whole

Most people, even ppl that hate sandler, consider Happy Gilmore a comedy classic and to a lesser extent madison/deeds/grandmas boy - these have unbelievably awful ratings, like sub 30 on metacritic - critics don't understand comedy worth a fuck. Nearly every comedy classic is rated horribly like Dumb and Dumber, Dude Wheres My Car, Night at the Roxbury, etc

Strangely most comedic classics have awful IMDB ratings as well. It's genuinely like people that hate comedies watch them anyways then rate them, beyond me.

some great picks in this thread (into darkness, american hustle, boyhood) but this one takes the cake for me.

not even joking, this is probably one of the 50 worst movies ive ever seen.

basically like a fictional bait version of apollo 13 with some hamfisted elements of solaris and a cringeworthy 2001 inspired shot, caked over with as many gimmicky effects and meme cinematography as humanly possible.

and somehow everyone fell for it. 3/10, never again.

Slapdash attempts at characterization and cg concrete crumbling isn't really that fun to watch after the 20th time.
>>
>>72043445
A blatant 9/11 revenge fantasy taht takes the Bush adminstrations rhetoric about "they hate us for our freedoms" and "fight them over there so we don't have to fight over here" to it's logical extreme of using nuclear weapons. A film where Joss Whedon manages somehow to use Captain America to espouse that "might makes right" and layers messianic imagery over the personification of the military-industrial complex is not what I would call "fun". And that are just some of the horrific implications to be found in Whedons neo-con extravaganza.
>>
>>72043482
All the characters in Whedon films sound the same. All the dialouge is interchangable because he can only write sarcastic arseholes, which really hurts Steve Rogers characterization in both 'Avengers' and 'Age of Ultron'.

I am sure that's your personal opinion and not regurgitated contrarianism

I can accept if you say they are overrated, but you can't rationally call them garbage.
They are well made on a technical level and most of them have pretty good acting. You can shit on the script or nolans style, but calling just outing yourself as a edgy teenager

The LotR books have so much more life to them than the movies. Try reading them sometime. A good director could have made great movies... Jackson didn't.

Any film where the director fucks up Chekovs Gun like the Avengers does is not coherent at all.

Oh I'm sorry I can't be bothered to check my spelling when arguing with idiots on /tv/. As to your question, the fight between Iron Man, Thor and Captain America serves no narrative purpose other than to establish that Thor can supercharge Tonys armour and cause a massive shockwave by striking Rogers shield but neither of these things are ever used again. So the scene is completely superfluous.

>>
>>72047774
I'm not gonna argue about the direction with you, because you obviously view that differently. But you're an idiot if you think that was meant to be a Chekhov's gun. It's a fight to A) break up the monotony and have a first act climax b) establish Thor's power's (which if you do wanna get Chekhov's gun on it, come into play when he zaps the portal at the end) c) show that the team has tension and conflict brewing that will need to be sorted out
d) show that Cap's shield is unbreakable, for people who haven't scene the other MCU films. The scene is anything but superflous, though it may be rehashing things slightly if you've seen other films in the franchise. Oh, and it's there because people want to see them fight. That's also part of it

Godzilla (2014) is thirty minutes longer than the classic Toho films. And where the film fails is that it lacks the gripping human drama/atmosphere of the Gojira (1954) and the creativity/entertainment value of most of its sequels. The human characters of Godzilla (2014) are nothing more than your average summer blockbuster characters with all the life drained out of them. If you're going to tease, at least have something worthwhile waiting at the end of the rainbow. This movie is freaking dull and a waste of time.
