protip:you cant
Maggie Gyllenhaal's face
Everything but Ledger as le random anarchist man. He is literally the only redeeming part, the only thing with a pulse. "Batman" is ineffectual and silly. The direction is clumsy and uninspired, Nolan's dialogue typically laughable. BvS, Watchmen, MoS, GotG, Ant-Man, the Avengers flicks and so much more capeshit blows it out of the water. It's cute many of you saw it at a ripe young age, but it's bad.

>>72022153
I can name one this is wrong with the title.
>>72022153
Joker wasn't really insane
If anything he was just your standard terrorist
>>72022222
this movie made me leave my abusive husband, it touched my life profoundly and I realized not all villains are justifiable
>>72022153
>Name one this wrong with this movie
Batman being used to force a storyline about post-9/11 surveillance state fear mongering. I'd take Adam West over this.
>>72022222
Batman Begins is still the best of the 3
>>72022461
did it really now?
>>72022222
>holy fuck those deuces
I feel that the characterization of Bruce Wayne by Christian Bale was the best I've ever seen; he resembled a real world play boy billionaire that is completely adventurous and intelligent but at the same time completely arrogant and smug.
The Joker was mental, his character looks as if a man was just too smart and it made him insane over time and made him into the Joker. I feel that this is the Joker we should've seen all along.
The gadgets and the Batmobile made sense, they came from a secret advanced military/science program of Wayne Enterprises, everything had an explanation and it wasn't far fetched, Nolan made the movie appear to fit our real world, to make it seem like this could happen in real life.
also, the directing in this movie wasnt that bad..

Dunnheir was superior to CIA in every way.
The pacing is way to fast and way to straightforward
They are like: we have to do this thing
>cut to them doing this thing
the boat scene is boring
The action, specifically the chase scene with dent in the armored car, was either poorly directed or edited. Point of reference was almost non existant making it difficult to keep track of exactly what happens, where characters are in relation to each other and pacing
>Even at his most pedestrian or bombastic, Snyder makes a far more engaging film than Christopher Nolan (an executive producer of “Batman v Superman”) ever did—because Nolan presumes to know and to show, whereas Snyder wants to see. Even his slender philosophical world seems like he’s discovering it, not delivering it.
>>72023058
yep, that anatomy of a scene video pointing out just how sloppy it is is indicative of his direction in general, just ideas and set pieces, devoid of logic or spatial sense
>>72022153
Joker wasn't funny except for the hospital explosion.
The Jim Gordon being dead plot was literally fucking nonsensical. Anyone could have "caught" the Joker at that point in the film where Jim did. None of it required him at all.
Also his stupid fucking bomb in the stomach plan, planning for himself getting caught or whatever.
Fucking gay.
the hostage situation and "choice" at the end between dent and maggie jelly was contrived and felt forced
>>72023111
I wouldnt to that far. Nolan isn't an action director so it is fairly understandable the technical side of action is sloppy. I think the rest of the direction is pretty good
>>72023376
I would, i'm sorry. Again he can have ok ideas or set pieces but the execution is constantly muddled and inelegant. His cinematographers make him look good, if anything.
>>72022153
To be honest i don't like Nolan's trilogy in general because i don't like the concept of trying to ground heroes to "realistic" worlds, specially on Batman.
Batman is an extension of Gotham, and Gotham is THE noir city. It's an archetype like Sin City so if the city is wrong then Batman is wrong.
TDK is without argument the best of the trilogy though but honestly i don't think there is ever been a good live action Batman yet.
Best Batman movies are the animated ones. That's where DC tops Marvel.
I am convinced, specially since Sin City and Watchmen, that Gotham and Batman could be transposed to live action correctly though.
>>72022222
TRUTH HAS SPOKEN
It was a shitty cliche terrorist police drama with Batman slapped onto it. Worst Joker ever to boot. Though the Suicide Squad joker will has a great shot at that title.
>>72022153
So many plot holes
>>72023241
>was getting caught part of your plan?
>>72022153
>cringy dialogue
>stiff, laughably bad batman with ridiculous voice
>fight scenes are shit
>plot holes you could drive a truck through
>an ending that completely falls apart when you put any shred of thought into it
its the heath ledger movie.
>>72022391
Everything the Joker says is about the conflict between him and Batman. There's nothing hinted at by the Joker, it's all speaches that make it very clear why he has an issue with Batman. The nature of the conflict and its symbolic meaning are laid out bare by straightforward dialogue.
The villains in this movie look directly at camera and say "HERE IS MY GIMMICK, BATMAN HAS TO BREAK HIS 1 RULE TO STOP ME." Jesus Christ, even Batman looks at the camera and explains why he's taking the fall for Two-Face.
Then there's narration by Gordon explaining again why Batman is taking the fall for Two-Face, he's telling his son who is the stand in for the audience in that moment. TDR is literally using a child as the audience surrogate at the end. And not in like a 'lost innosense' sort of way, but a 'you're too stupid, let the adults explain it to you' sort of way.
TDK is still very highly rated for Superhero movies and is even still a good movie after everything I said, but it was never the 'best' in any regard except for how smart it made stupid people feel. Like Inception, a 7/10 that gets inflated into something 'intellectual.'
>>72023729
I'd agree but I think Batman Begins is the best of the trilogy. It's the least bloated and up its own ass while still feeling more like a comic book.
My issues with the Dark Knight can be pretty
much summed up by "it's not a Batman movie"
It may be a decent crime film in the same vain as Heat but it's not a Batman film.
>>72022153
Bale as Batman is goofy and not intimidating.
The movie doesn't do Two-Face any justice and his character is rushed and killed off by the end of the film before. Wasted potential.
Maggie Gyllenhaal is awful and cringy in every scene.
The acting from secondary actors and extras is pretty bad.
Most of the action sequences don't hold up.
Still a good movie though. Just not perfect. Heath Ledger and Gary Oldman are the best parts of it.
>>72022222

Will Nolan ever recover?
Two-Face.
>>72026585
>>72025320
>The movie doesn't do Two-Face any justice and his character is rushed and killed off by the end of the film before
this, among other things
>Nolan/Bale's Batman
>Joker's ending
>Two-Face's pacing and abrupt end
Other than that it makes for a pretty good thriller, but the fact that it's Batman leaves out a lot of the suspense.
